Larry Black Jr has been hired to take Harland Bower's spot after Coach Bower got the DL Coach job at South Alabama.

Coach Black is a native of Cincinnati (Wyoming HS '09) He was a 4 year starter at IU where he totaled 27.5 TFL's, 8 Sacks and 4 Pass deflections.

After spending 2013-2014 in the Bengals' organization he went directly into college coaching:

2015 - Carthage (DT)
2016-2017 - Toldeo (Asst DL)

Coach Black walks into a very important position this year with ND. In what is shaping up to be a historic year for DT recruiting, he will be a vital part of the sales pitch and daily communications between ND and their DT board. I've read Harland Bower was a very important part of the Hunter Spears recruitment that just wrapped up. Might be the most important Assistant DL Coaching position in the country this year.

Always nice to have another up and coming Ohio coach on the roster, especially from the Catholic stronghold of Cincinnati.

I remember when he broke his leg on Hard Knocks. That was a tough watch. Good to see him still connected with the game in some manner.

Hard to believe that there are coaches out there who are my age. Seems like yesterday I was in college. Damn getting old sucks.
