I am 33 years old so I have seen some pretty decent tight ends in my life. In my opinion Rudolph is the greatest combination of size, speed, blocking, catching that I have ever seen. If he remains on track he will be in Canton one day.

PS he will not be visiting the HOF but will actually be enshrined into it for smart asses

this guy is very special

this guy is very special

My favorite player in Notre Dame history is Ken McAfee. Hands down the greatest tight end I have ever seen play college football. 3 time All America and 2 time concensus All America. A member of the college football hall of fame. Rudolph is better and I'm sure McAfee would agree. I see him being used in a way this year that could win him the Maxwell Trophy. It will be his last year at Notre Dame.

He reminds me of Fasano and John Carlson.. great all-around player.

He is in an entire different class than both of those although Carlson will have a great career he reminds me of Chris Cooley. The only player that reminds me of Rudolph, and being a Skins fan it pains me to say it, is Jason Witten. I think that Rudolph will be a top15 draft pick.

You also forgot to mention MacAfee finished third in Heisman voting in 1977. A tight end finishing third.

Hopefully Rudolph has a little better career in the NFL, though.

I love Carlson. He's amassed over 1,100 yards so far in his first two seasons. He only needs about 500 yards to beat Desmond Howard's career total.

Carlson is not half the blocker that KR is and KR is faster too. He is a beast for sure.

That was a title given to Jimmy Clausen in high school.

True, but that's just a silly little thing the media did. Clausen wasn't really physically gifted in the freakish way that LeBron was.

What I meant was that Rudolph is almost the same size as LeBron (Rudy being 2 inches shorter and maybe 10 lbs less?) and gives us a glimpse of what James could do in football. Plus, Rudolph is a pretty good basketball player.

I'd really like to see Rudolph become a dominant blocker. That was the big knock on him coming into last year, and of course he was only a true sophomore, but I don't think we can designate him an elite blocker like MacAfee was.

He's going to have to drop a bunch of fools in the blocking game to raise his NFL stock. Even if he puts up a crazy 80 catch year with 10 TD's...if the scouts think he's a mediocre blocker, he'll fall out of the first round.

Rudolph is good but he hasn't done anything IMO to drastically seperate himself from a lot of other TE's we have seen recently in college. I'm going to wait to see if he can stay healthy first and then see him on Sunday's before I announce him as going to Canton because of plays he's making against guys who, a majority of them, won't even sniff an NFL practice squad.

Rudolph isn't even the best pro prospect on the offense IMO..let alone anyone I would label as a future HOF'er.

I stand by my point but your point may be valid too which is weird and at least a testament to Cuck's recruiting. I think that Teo, Floyd, and Rudolph are the top prospects coming out in that order. That said Rudolph suffered from having two elite receivers taking away receptions from him and for a guy with his skill set is just a sick blocker. He also has a mean streak. I am not sure if he is really a fit in the BK system though. I must admit I am not an expert on his form of the spread but some of them don't featuer te's as much. I am sure at least he will get looks split wide in formations but his ability to block, run , and catch at a plus level will be unmatched in the pros.

I guess I view Rudolph on a pro level as better version of Dallas Clark. I'm not sure though that = HOF though. I mean a guy like Antonio Gates may not even get in eventually and Shannon Sharpe isn't in yet and he was an amazing player. I'm not sure if Rudoplh's ceiling is nearly that high in the pro's let alone as high as a sure fire HOF'er in Tony Gonzalez.

I think Rudolph will make a very good pro TE but I guess I haven't seen anything from him that makes me think he is a truly special and transcedent player one day HOF player. So far IMO Rudolph hasn't been as impressive in college as guys like Shockey or Winslow were. To this point I'd say he's more comparable to guy like Greg Olsen, except better overall.

Man I was liking you till the Gregg Olsen comparison LOL! Greg olsen is faster than KR but from a blocking stand point it is night and day. When he is on the field DC's KNOW he is running routes most of the time and if he is blocking he is just chipping. KR is a real tight end that just happens to be a gangster receiver . Shockey was one hell of a good TE for Miami though.

I think the best tight end from ND was Dave Casper. Not only did he play end for ND but he played offensive tackle as well (read that as he could knock people on their ass). He played for years in the NFL and was on the receiving end of many passes from guys like Kenny Stabler, etc.

What a lot of people don't realize about the spread is that the TE/H-Back position is a HUGE position for the offense. People see 'spread' and automatically assume that it means speedy WRs flying all over the place and scat backs and mobile QBs getting/faking hand-offs, etc etc.

But look at Ed Dickson of Oregon, or Aaron Hernandez of Florida. Those guys were key cogs to those offenses and were highly involved in all sets. Like all of you, IMO we're gonna see Kyle Rudolph explode this season, provided he stays healthy. I have no worries about BK getting him involved...he knows what a gem he has. Rudolph is quite simply a nightmare to match up against.

Rudolph is the best TE in the country. He probably will be utilized mostly on 3rd down conversions over the middle. It all depends on how well the pass protect is, if we are getting toasted he will have to provide that extra blocking.

The thread creator basically states teh way I feel about Mike Floyd... in all my years I have not seen another come close (Shark, Tate, Rocket,... anyone)

to each their own, but if Floyd can just stay healthy he has potential like no one who has ever worn the jersey as far as I can see...

BUT, a lot needs to happen before we start talking HOF for anyone not named Bus or Brown... these kids are just juniors in college... lol

The sky is the limit for KR, and with the new offense, we don't know right now. After the BG game, it looks as if the TE will be big. I'd like to have him at ND for 2 more years, but Ragone etc, can pick up the slack.

Definitely. We do have a history of great tight ends: MacAfee, Casper, Bavaro, Fasano, Carlson, and now Rudolph.

Ricky Watters!

He has had hands problems in the past. Of course, I wouldn't be scared to put him in, though. He was solid in the spring game.

Ricky Waters?!?!

Ricky Waters?!?!

sure shaq... whaterver you say...

lol

actually when you compare numbers within positions from guys who are in and guys who are not one guy really stands out for ND and he is NEVER mentioned... Mark Bavaro

his numbers are right up there with any other TE in the hall...

but Brown and Bus are the only two going in any time soon... and enjoy it... they may be it for a very long time...

Watters ran for over 10,000 yards in his career. He amassed at least 1,500 yards a year for seven consecutive seasons.

Bavaro is not a HOFer???

Why does the Football HOF keep out so many great players?

I like Ricky. He was both a Niner and went to Notre Dame, but all i have to say is "for what, for who?"

yet they let in Lynn Swan for making a couple of circus catches in the Super Bowl... which is just about all he did...

His mouth is the only thing keeping him out of the Hall of Fame. If Hall of Fame status was based on character and humility, then there would be very few players in the hall.

If 10,643 rushing yards and 4,248 receiving yards with 91 touchdowns isn't Hall material, then sue me.
