So something that happens from "time to time" doesn't need to be worried about?

So I guess these mass shootings, that happen even less than police screw ups, are nothing to be worried about?

I was sarcastically pointing out that your comment didn't have a valid point as it could and has happened just about everywhere at some point and time. They are always tragic and sad.

I'm glad you are on that side of the debate about guns. I feel you help my side almost daily.

No problem. I'd rather not be on the side of those that depend on others for protection and leadership.

Don't worry, the police will be there soon.....

The hardest job our officers have is protecting people like you from yourself.

And don't worry, I don't need to call the police. Come to my house with a gun and I'll show you a new and unique hiding place for it.

Why? I'm trained and have taken the proper gun safety courses. I'm probably the LEAST of their worries.

No, their hardest job is answering all your frivioulous calls in the mid afternoon because someone scares you.

And are you threatening me, Bob? How progressive and tolerant of you!

I have read this thread, and have not found one post including the original video that delineated what my absolute rights are. The greatest wisdom I found in all of this is "don't screw with cops." That I already knew.

Do the cops actually protect anyone from themselves?

Someone asked me what I would do with cops (e.g. "remove them from dangerous areas?!?"), and this is the #2 thing I'd address. Police conduct reviews should be done by independent boards that have no association with the local government or police anywhere.

#1, of course, is ending the War on Sanity--errr, Drugs.

dont you see?!...that's not what's important to this thread. it's basically a long argument about whose subjective concept of "suspicion" is the one true definition. it stopped being about rights around the second page. this site has several experts on collective societal perceptions of guns and the proper reaction by the public and peace officers.

**** the police.

& the same to punk a$$ Buster too.

For clarity, that was not a one off comment. You have used that comment in the past. From what I can gather, you're upset at the police for ruining some of your college parties. So sad.

A) It goes back to the original video taping. The logic goes like this. We only see the tape, after the fact. We don't see it live, not knowing the entirety of the circumstances that led to these portrayed resutls or knowing what the outcome would be. So then we cannot assume that the results outcome would be the same, every time.

B) What this thread is about is the drama most create in their lives and the natural need to insert them as the protagonist it their own ego masaging passion play.

"Imagination and fiction make up more than three quarters of our real life."
Simone Weil

C) And all you need is the police officer to do this, the following, and you are fukked. (The outcome would be a stream down the leg):

"You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say or do may be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to consult an attorney before speaking to the police and to have an attorney present during questioning now or in the future.

If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you before any questioning, if you wish. If you decide to answer any questions now, without an attorney present, you will still have the right to stop answering at any time until you talk to an attorney.

Knowing and understanding your rights as I have explained them to you, are you willing to answer my questions without an attorney present?"

The Miranda warning, stated by an officer of the law near you.

If I were the police officer I would be taping the guy taping me.

Bogtrotter, you are absolutely right. My audio recorder and my cameras are more valuable to me than any other piece of equipment I carry. Nowadays.

It's amazing what being recorded will do to people isn't it? At the risk of an Orwellian society, more exposure is a good thing! Sunshine is the best disinfectant...

Anyway, Im surprised no one's taking the position that it's ridiculous that you can't be stopped by a police officer just for openly carrying a gun in public. I personally think that can and should be allowed- not a search, mind you, but a stop and a questioning like was going on in the original video. I have no problem whatsoever with requiring any individual carrying a weapon designed with the express purpose of killing people to reassure officers of the law that they're not a danger to the rest of us. Surely any individual who feels unsafe enough to carry a deadly weapon to everyday places for protection would understand me wanting to ensure my own safety, even if it was a very minor inconvenience to them.

If we just put our faith in government and police....we'll all be safe and secure

I'll put my faith in the government and the police before I put my faith in the average moron citizen with a loaded firearm. This is not the 1700s, when people may not have been educated but were full of common sense; people are fvcking stupid and getting dumber every day.

In reference to your point of people are getting dumber every day, have you ever seen the first ten minutes of the movie Idiocracy?

I always find that hilarious. And it's funniest because it's true... in a society where you can no longer completely fail and/or die by being irresponsible (i.e. there is always a safety net for you no matter how much you screw up) then there is no longer natural curb to stupidity/irresponsibility. The average IQ in the US (and the world) has been on a slow decline for decades.

I think it is all perspective. What you and others see as I decline in actual individual IQ's whatever that is, could be perceived as a number of things, including but not limited to more individual expressive freedom, and that much more knowledge abounding to make the individual look less knowledgeable and therefore less intelligent.

Culturally, up until a hundred years ago white people would do imitations of African-Americans, in a very patronizing manner, accentuating blissful ignorance, the culmination being the black-face performances of white vaudevillian artists, and radio shows such as Amos and Andy. Today we show the same thing with reality bites on Youtube. In fact, I see where the Census Bureau is just now stopping the use of the term Negro, which was a slaveholder term.

I am more than willing to go Downtown Toledo, and put together a video with UMC white folks, those that work the top level government and legal jobs, on basic civics that my kids need to know, and they would look stupider than shiit. (I know this because it wasn't that long ago that my seventeen year old and her class mates did it. There was a great story about an ex-mayor getting assaultive with a kid on a similar mission.)

I believe actual worldwide IQ rates are increasing because of additional nutritional advantages. I believe aspartame, high fructose corn syrup are working against us, but I think basically people are the same dumb shiits they have always been. I remember after basic training having a conversation with my dad and great uncle. They laughed at my questioning the intelligence of my fellow recruit. My basic had very naive folks from certain areas; my father who did his basic just before Pearl Harbor, talked about the number of recruits that could not read or write; my great uncle talked about the number of recruits that could not even speak English, and had no comprehension of those issues facing them (WWI era.) The stories were incredible!

Yeah that First Amendment especially, ya know, with this GREAT era of political correctness bull$hit.

You can't pick and choose what you think is relevant to keep from the Constitution. Besides, if it has worked for the previous 235 years, why wouldn't it work for the next 235?

Bogs, if I offended you or any other member of IE by agreeing with the article then I apologize. This was not my intention. I am far from a Rhodes Scholar myself. Nor was I trying to imply that certain races are smarter than others.

I have answered plenty of 911 calls to very, very, wealthy white peoples houses, and stood and wondered if they even knew how to wipe their own a****.

If not a drop in IQ's then it's a total loss of common sense. I do less and less stopping crime and more figuring out peoples nonsensical issuies.

You could not offend me. You are an officer of the law. You are an Irish Fan. And you are intelligent and good looking, much like myself. So it's all good!

You cannot survive on this site without offending someone.

It is okay, I am not African American, however I am a bit Irish, (which was considered worse until the dawn of the 20th century when police and fire departments and many local governments were run by the Irish.

I also have some Iroquois blood, (one of the tribes.) So there. There is a recognized minority. You do not believe intelligence is related to IQ, mostly because of your experience, but many do.
