So my kid (6th grade) is playing football for the first time. He got moved to nose tackle and pulled a Louis Nix this weekend. First play he blasted the center and put him flat on his back (total cockroach). The rest of the game he ran roughshod in spite of being triple teamed at times. Anybody else got any kids, nieces or nephews playing ball? I'll post some pics later.

My boy refuses to play. Something about big dumb ugly people chasing you and trying to hit you.
But put him on a trampoline or a scooter and he will do the craziest crap.

How old is he?
My son started playing for the 1st grade team this year. I coach and my life pretty much revolves around football but I wasn't going to push my son into it. I thought he was too young (I started organized football in the 5th grade, earliest you could start in my city at the time, after years of dominating the playground scene), but his tee-ball coach was the HC and, after my son said he wanted to play, the coach convinced me it was a good idea, and then asked me to coach after I made the decision to let him play.
It's a lot of fun. I've heard a lot of people say as a parent you enjoy watching your kids more than you enjoyed playing. I'm not there yet, but I can see how that will be the case as he gets older, especially if I continue to coach his team(s).
On another note, my son plays in a AYF league and they don't keep score until the 4th grade. This ticks me off so much. It's not that I care whether we win or lose, but it's an important part of life that should be taught. One day I asked the kids why they were playing football. About half of them said they wanted to win a championship and during every game we've had this year they've asked me if we were winning (during the game) or if we won (end of the game). I'm not going to lie to them. We're 3-0, not that anyone is counting
I figured I'd get a bunch of tape together at the end of the season! Lol. He loves nose tackle too. He was like "all I have to do is plow people over!".

NDworld247 he's 13. I've pretty much given up hope that he will play.
I still coach the youth teams though and I get a lot of enjoyment out of it. For me the best part is watching the kids get better as the season goes along.

My son is 3 and always wants to play football. He already knows, 3pt and 4pt stance and is proficient at bull rushing (remember he is 3) and is working on swim and rip moves next. With him being a ginger he looks like a tiny Tony Springman...minus the beard...and the long hair LOL

Have a couple nephews who will being attending our city's private school which is great for their academics, but this school has no football program which is a huge bummer for their football coach uncle.
They will likely play soccer which isn't a disappointment to me. I even played soccer for 3-4 years. I just really wish they could play some football. Still a long time to go though as they are both only 5 and 2.

my oldest son played flag football, he wants to play tackle but you have to be 8...1st hand off of the year he took it to the house...he had a couple other touchdowns zig zagging all over the field or as he says..."i juked them out of their jock straps"....anyways he made a "tackle" or pulled the kids flag on a 4th down and threw the flag down instead of handing back to the kid w/ a pissed off look....i smiled from the sidelines

My son is also in 1st grade and plays. I'm assuming it's tackle for you too? I don't coach, but I think watching him play (whether it's baseball, football, or wrestling) is way more fun. We do keep score, but the kids don't really know if they win or lose at this age. It only comes up when parents point it out.

Help a coach in the future. Teach him to hand it back to them and always treat the other team with respect!
