Check out Kelly's thoughts on our class, some good stuff

http://twitter.com/ISDUpdate

Most recent post "BK on 2011: "Need to look toward DE position next year. Feel good inside. On offense will only take about 5 or 6 more QBs.""

I love it

I say at least 7 more QBs...lol

I like Kelly's personality/humor. And he is right DEs are must next year.

I think they are going to absolutely kill recruiting next year. Just a vibe I get.

Winning breeds successful recruiting. Pretty damn good for a transition class.

Even without Seantrel, I am amazed with this class. I was expecting a complete disaster of commitments leaving.

Well done Kelly on maintaining most of the class and adding more.

More Wins = More Recruits

The future is looking bright!

Sounds like Daniel Smith will get a look at Safety maybe? That's my impression

Kelly mentioned it at the very end, but I had never heard the rule about needing to have 85 scholarship players to allow for mid year enrollees.

Is there anything else to that rule? I guess the point of it would be to not allow a school to overload any particular class.

minus the weis recruited guys - who did kelly bring in?

Is this the most talented recruiting class ever in Kelly's career, in terms of player ratings? Did he ever get a better group of recruits at any of his previous stops?

My thought being, if you compare year by year kelly's previous recruiting classes to this current ND class, is this Notre Dame class the best collection of talent that kelly has ever brought in? (without researching, I think it is)

If so, my expectation of him just grew exponentially.

He has been a winner at every place he has been, now he has the best recruiting class he has ever had....I expect the world from him.

Judging from your posts, I doubt you'll ever be satisfied.

Kelly inherited a role in which these kids agreed to play for a guy that had a direct connection to the NFL. He salvaged 90% of the class, and picked up athletes that fit his scheme. They are all solid players. I don't understand why Kelly has to prove to you why he deserves this job. I think we can all afford to give him the benefit of the doubt until he steps on the field and coaches 1 minute of a game. Let's hold off on the nay-saying until he has a chance to prove himself.

1) He did an excellent job of maintaining the class, which in itself is a huge accomplishment. He basically re-recruited all of Weis's players.... So he basically "brought in" the majority of the class this season.

2) He did acquire completely new players, sure most were not the "Big Names", but they are solid players that'll fit into his system of football.

3) He also locked up Matt James, who was looked at by Weis, but Kelly made it official.

Kelly did an outstanding job. He will be successful, and "Big Names" and "5 stars" will follow into is success.

Good Luck Kelly, and keep up the good job!

kelly did a good job for taking over when he did. he kept most players and brought in some good players that will play hard because they will want to prove they belong.

I think he will have a great class next year after he starts winning. The big guys aren;t going to look at u until u prove u can win and thats what he;s done everywhere he;s been. the program looks like it is headed back in the right direction.

BK on Utupo: "He arrives at the ball with a bad attitude...He told Coach Diaco he is still angry about a loss in the last game of the year."

I love it... I predict in 4 years or less UTUPO will be the talk of the 2010 Recruit class

That can be said about Derek Dooley at Tennessee and he did a better job than Kelly with less time with no DC until today.. Secondly for "his system" will he still recruit like he did at Cincy?

No delusional is thinking this is a stellar class than filler. I'm really sorry but we didn't need 3 QBs, period.. We needed more than one safety, we pick up a couple defenesive ends which no complaints here but we're still thin. Still thin on the offenesive line.. Plenty needs to get done next year in recruiting and I expect more than what he ran out and got. He'll get a pass but not next year!

I think I read somewhere earlier today that his best class before this was 51st ranking by Scout or Espn or Rivals.

Being 14th (Rivals) is way better.

I didn't say this was a stellar class, but for a 6-6 season and being hired in December having a top 15 class is pretty damn good.

I give Kelly credit here in essentially holding this class together while managing to lock up James at the end. All this when he's transitioning into a team with a depleted D line, thin QB depth and that hasn't finished the regular season over .500 in a few years. I agree that his coaching and recruiting ability will bear itself over time, but I give him plenty of credit for keeping the wheels on. I don't think we can cite his recruiting rankings in Cincinnati at all as it is an apples/oranges comparison with recruiting to ND (except he managed to win much more often with less agreed-upon talent). I'm willing to give the guy a fair chance and I hope others do too.

Who knows? If we're still in the same place 5 years from now, maybe I'll go halfsies with you on an anti-Kelly "internship" billboard.

I'm happy we got James. That's a huge need filled.

Overall, pleased with the class. I don't really think the Tennessee comparisons are applicable. Notre Dame sets the bar a little bit higher.

Number 14 class is stellar IMO, addressed our need on Offensive Line, Defensive End, and QB, while still getting us several players who could play anywhere.

My guess is, in BK's first 4 years, our average class will be rated higher or even to Charlie's

C'mon, you have all see the interviews with CW....was he a personable guy? No, but kids still came to ND. BK is part salesman and part cheerleader, he is going to do EXCELLENT at ND in terms of recruiting.....just give him time.

As for the comment about Dooley doing better in a shorter amount of time......that guy is a GOOD recruiter.....and it is still Tennessee, big time football and if you just have a heartbeat, they will qualify you academically.....tough to compare that to ND.

Just the comparison of how BK is always standing during the presser, wearing a suit, set's the tone that he means business IMO. I like that.

I will be satisfied when he wins a BCS game, not a moment before. Anything else is 'been there, done that.'

1) He did an excellent job of maintaining the class, which in itself is a huge accomplishment. He basically re-recruited all of Weis's players.... So he basically "brought in" the majority of the class this season.

I think I was not clear on my original thought.....because most of what you said I agree with. Although I would not have worded in the way you did.

1)I totally give credit to Kelly for maintaining the recruit class. (although I would argue that he was supposed to do that)

2)He acquired some of his own recruits as well.

3)I give him credit for closing the deal with James, thats a big signing.

I simply added that this class is the best collection of talent in any recruiting class kelly has ever had, is that a fair statement? An argument can be made that this current Notre Dame roster is the best collection of talent he has ever coached. I simply said that having the best incoming recruit class he ever had, combined with arguably his best team of on-hand talent says my expectation is risen.

Consider this:

the 2009 Cincinnati Bearcat roster, combined with the incoming 2009 Cincinnati recruits. (last years Cincy roster and recruits)

Compared to

the Notre Dame 2010 roster, and the Notre Dame 2010 incoming recruits.(this years ND roster and incoming recruits)

Talent-wise, on paper does the Notre Dame 2010 roster look better than the 2009 Cincy roster? (i think yes) Does the 2010 Notre Dame incoming recruits, look better then the 2009 Cincy recruits? (I think, yes)

that is why my expectation has increased for Kelly.

This a good sign for the future. He was able to keep some guys and he was able to get some new players. He Had a good amount of 4 and 5 star players that came to ND but we feel just short. When we have more then 6 wins maybe he will be able to bring a couple other more talented guys in town. But overall i am pleased with this class.
