A month or two ago I would have said the same thing but there are 28 bodies incoming and Frome and Leitko returning on DLine and Kadous a possibility to return on the OLine The immediate crunch in the trenches is handled adequately. There is no plug in difference maker arriving at DT but we can line up next year in better shape on the DLine than in '05.
Hand, Kuntz, and Stephenson have to develop beyond that. With Mullen, Yeatman, (or Olsen) and Cullen (walkon Weis granted a scholarship to in '05) the numbers of bodies are back up. Now the question is improving the quality of play. IF McCoy does show up on Signing Day both issues should be resolved.

It is an area they will have to attack next year. If they don't land McCoy, I would venture to say they will need to grab 3 DT in next year's class, maybe four.
They'll be involved with Ben Martin and Sibley down in Alabama sounds promising.

Ben Martin's a pure DE. He only weighed about 220 this year. I doubt much that he'll help with DT.
Still, he remains my favorite recruit this year for a variety of reasons. Not the least of which is he plays in my alma mater's league and I hope to see him play a couple times this year.

I noticed in the Big 33 writeup that Kellen Wade was moved "inside" this year.

I've seen Wade play a couple times and I'm very familiar with his team and the competition he played against. I'm not sure why he moved inside, but my guess would be because there were more guys that could play DE than DT on that team and they needed some sort of push up the middle. 220 pounds is big enough for DT in high school. It is not in college. I'm guessing on his frame he could maybe get as high as 260 pounds or so and be a Tuck-like rush end. He doesn't have the build for DT.
Both can turn into very good ends. At this point I'd guess Martin to be a bit thicker and stronger than Wade. I saw Wade more than Martin this year. I never got a chance to watch LaSalle.

From Rivals yesterday:
Kates has only taken one official to date to Minnesota although a quiet official to Syracuse has also been suspected. No other officials are currently scheduled for the Rivals250 lineman and his longtime favorite, Notre Dame, has apparently pulled his offer.

"Jason took an official to Syracuse before Christmas and told me it was ok, but he's pretty quiet and that's about all you'll get out of him," he said. "I know he's also headed to Maryland this weekend and has talked about setting up two more of his visits to Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame or North Carolina State."
Rumor has circulated recently that Notre Dame may have pulled their offer from Kates, but Weachter couldn't confirm that news. He did however say that it doesn't appear Kates is leaning towards anyone at this time. Weachter expects Kates to make a decision right before Signing Day.
