Jones to transfer?
There are multiple rumors out there this afternoon including one from IrishIllustrated.com that sophomore quarterback Demetrius Jones has decided to transfer from Notre Dame, however no one has confirmed the story.
Notre Dame football media relations director Brian Hardin said as of Thursday night, Jones was on the travel roster for Saturday's game against Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Lexie Spurlock, Jones' high school coach at Morgan Park (Ill.) High School, didn't know much, either.
"I don't know anything about anything about anything," Spurlock said. "I don't know nothing. I don't know anything."
Jones started the Notre Dame's season-opener against Georgia Tech, was pulled after less than a half and did not play against Penn State on Saturday. He had initially won the three-man competition between himself, junior Evan Sharpley and freshman Jimmy Clausen, the current starter.
Check back here if there are more developments on this story.
This doesn't sit well with me at all...just don't get how you bail on the team because you were demoted after one game. Maybe the coaching staff gave him a bleak outlook on his remaining time at ND? Or are college athletes changing? Seems like a very poor attitude if it's a "play me or trade me" move (without the trade, obviously).
A Notre Dame official said Jones was included on the travel roster in advance of the team's trip to Michigan, a list set Thursday. However, on Friday Weis learned that Jones would not join the Irish in Ann Arbor and issued the following statement.
"At 2:30 today while boarding the bus to Michigan I was notified that Demetrius Jones has decided not to make the trip," Weis said. "I have not spoken to Demetrius and can only say that he missed the team bus. Any additional comment would be without all the facts."
As of late Friday afternoon Weis had not spoken to Jones.
Okay, let's get this discussion going.
If what is being said - that DJ was a no-show for the team bus, and didn't notify the staff that this was going to happen - is true, that is really low. He's part of a team, and he just left his mates high and dry and with big ol' distraction hanging over their heads going into a huge game.
I have nothing good to say about Demetrius Jones. Nothing at all.

I agree!! He should've advised the staff accordingly. I'm sure there are many, many other players on the ND team that would give anything to make the trip. In addition, it didn't allow Charlie to add another possible player that could be used in the game.
Pretty lame if you ask me.
Lame doesn't even begin to characterize it. This is one of the lowest, most incomprehensibly irresponsible and distasteful actions I have ever seen.
Demetrius Jones — at the very least — went through the motions at Notre Dame’s football practice Thursday afternoon. He was on the travel roster Thursday night for today’s matchup with Michigan.
Come Friday afternoon, he was missing in action.
The sophomore quarterback from Chicago, two weeks removed from a starting assignment against Georgia Tech, has left the Irish team, presumably with the intention of transferring.
Presumably because ND head football coach Charlie Weis and Jones have not yet spoken to each other.
“At 2:30 (Friday), while boarding the bus to Michigan, I was notified that Demetrius Jones had decided not to make the trip,” Weis said late Friday afternoon. “I have not spoken to Demetrius and can only say that he missed the team bus. Any additional comment would be without all the facts.”
Jones, reached by cell phone Friday afternoon, declined comment, citing a victory over Michigan should take precedence over any individual issues. Jones’ mother, LaShaun Dumas, expressed surprise over the apparent turn of events and said she also had not had a chance to speak with Jones.
While that is probably a little over the top, there is no question that he appears to be a quitter and a cowardly one at that. Based upon the timing, it seems like he just wanted to make sure that he could play in 2008 (rather selfish if you ask me). The team clearly came second.
I hope that there is some other story behind the scenes that might justify his actions. I've read numerous reports that he is nice guy.
ESPN just reported that Jones DID NOT make the trip to Ann Arbor!
Nor, presumably, did Darrin Bragg, or whomever else could've taken DJ's roster spot. What a class act.
I guess it was true what I heard that there was no way he'd ever consider playing another position. Its really too bad... but there really wasn't any way he'd ever play QB for Weis and the Irish, if ever, again. D1 ball is competitive and very emotional for some and more than likely he'll look back on this decision and have some regrets. He handled the situation without much class...still want to hear what CW has to say when the scUM dust settles come next week's presser. He's a kid, only 19, so remember that.
Justin Gillet maybe??
19. Old enough to serve in the military, vote, and drive a car. Also old enough to carry yourself like a man and conduct your business with some semblance of class, responsibility, and care for your friends and teammates (past or present).
I understand the frustration from both sides. Believe me I do. Noone outside of the team truly knows the entire situation...let's wait to get official word before we bash the kid for being classless and irresponsible. Like I mentioned, he's probably going to regret the situation someday, but face it, he's a kid. The writing was on the wall and it was very likely this would happen as far as a transfer, although the way it appears sucks and comes with horrible timing.
All the more reason to fire up the team towards that first victory (I hope)...
MUCK FICHIGAN
Well, it's not even clear that those INSIDE the team "know the entire situation" ... and that, of course, is exactly what's got me so steamed.
You know what this makes me think of....Travis Thomas switching to D to try and help the team where it was needed. Thomas didn't throw a fit or transfer, he did what he could to help. With all the slagging Thomas has taken on this board, I'll take a player like him who's willing to adapt, than someone like Jones who it seems, has chosen to bail on the team.Well said. I think what he did was distasteful and he has no class at all. Im very disappointed in him because we may have been able to use him at wide receiver or somehow on special teams or in goaline situations by running the option.
