Michigan State video goodness: Jemele Hill, Mark Dantonio dance, more

The above link has a video of Jemelle Hill going off about the MSU - UM game. I think her response to the game is utterly classless. Her point about the Magic Johnson statue is hypocritical, as MSU has vandalized the block M on Michigan's campus.

It's a serious problem in Sports media, today. The "personalities" (read; not real journalists) think that they can be fans on air, and they shouldn't be allowed to do so. It really serves no purpose, and makes the network(s) look bad, not to mention as you said; the "personalities" look classless doing it.

I'd love to see LSUFreek or one of the PSP gurus insert Jim Harbaugh as Jim Everett and Jamele Hill as Jim Rome, in the famous "Chris Evert" video..........

Even when they aren't fans, they will have ridiculous takes that become controversial for the sole purpose of drawing attention to themselves. It's the only reason First Take exists. Those geniuses have learned how to make themselves the center of sports controversies instead allowing the story to either develop over time on its own or simply fizzle out because nobody cares. Class is not part of the formula for generating revenue through clicks, views, and ratings.

That was just stupid. Could she sound anymore unintelligent? I don't expect sportscasters to sound like that, I expect the lady at the grocery store who yells at the cashier for not taking her coupons to sound like that.

meh... it's entertainment. these aren't journalists. anyone watch half the programming on ESPN. it's all personalities except for the standard news, which still has personalities... for gosh sakes it's ESPN, what do you expect. if you want journalism, or integrity, read the paper. that is, if there are any left.

Duh.

It's hardly worth commenting on the scripted banter ESPN sets up. My Facebook feed is full of high school friends who complain about First Take and other ESPN skits. But they still follow Pro Wrestling so I can understand the source. It's hard to believe any Irish fan of the IE level would even give this stuff a second thought, especially since Coach and Mark May were the trailblazers in this faux-fight genre.

I did read she actually said, "You had the nerve to make fun of our school's academic reputation" (or something to the effect). Well Aggie gal, you couldn't get into Ann Arbor so suck it up and tough it out like all the other Aggies have done since the Morill Act was passed 150 years ago.

The video further down the page with the MSU fan filming himself while going "whoa" over and over again cracks me up.

All these sports shows are bad. It is the Host opinions that they try to make fact.

Actually, it's Kornheiser and Wilbon that ESPN has been trying for years to reproduce through characters such as Holtz and May, and Salisbury and Clayton.

I thought of them but I believe their spats are fewer and for the most part real. They tend to agree on more things than Disney's scripted faux-fight skits. If anything they may bring up a plausible counter-point that they don't fully back just to appease the Goofy producers. Kornheiser and Wilbon were at one time 100% real journalists and it still comes across to me that they won't fully reduce themselves to the least common denominator just to adhere to the Mickey Mouse formula.
