Agets are allowed to give gifts to existing clients (which Cano is here) the agent just has to notify the MLBPA in writing. So this sounds like a non-story.

The fact MLB gives a crap is what surprises me. Why would they care whose agent is whose and whether another agent is trying to lure them away?

I heard the limit was $500, so $33k watch gets a slit bit of attention. The MLB needs to worry more about its players all taking roids and HGH instead of gifts from agents, my Lord.

It's the players association's rule. It's designed to ensure player representatives are chosen on merit rather than by showing kids with gifts before they have signed their first contract.

Sorry I wasn't clear on it before... the notice requirement is for gifts of over $500. The $500 isn't a limit, per se, it's just the triggering threshhold.

Anyhow, the rules aren't designed to protect guys already earning 8 figures a year. Nothing will come of this.

They may be just sounding a warning shot to the new kid on the block...
