Okay, since we've begun to discuss him in another thread, I'm breaking it off so I can start hunting for info on him.

Could he be a forgotten man because of the Hurricanes in the area? I remember watching a segment on ESPN on how LA prospects are going to get forgotten because of lost contact, etc.

Look at the grades and the two schools that offered him.

He's been on one visit.

11th hour shot in the dark? It's worth it.

Two weeks isn't a great deal of time to build a relationship, but you never know, right?

I'd say it would certainly be worth a shot.

Jarrod Shaw
DL, 6'5", 310, Northside of Lafayette

Monday, February 07, I was able to track down and interview super defensive lineman college prospect Jarrod Shaw (6'5", 310) from Northside of Lafayette who I have ranked No. 8 on my top prospect list for the state of Louisiana. Shaw led his Northside Vikings team to the school first state championship game every against John Curtis in the Louisiana super dome in December. Shaw made the class 4- A All-State team in 2004 and will ba national recruit in 2005. Jarrod told me that he has a 3.9 GPA and made a 22 on his ACT, but said he is planning on taking the test over and believe that he will make a higher score. I asked Jarrod what schools he was hearing from the most and his answer was LSU, Auburn, Miami, UCLA, USC, Ole Miss and all of the state schools. I asked what schools he would like to visit and his answer was LSU, Miami and USC. Shaw told me his favorite NFL player is Julius Peppers of the Carolina Panthers. Shaw is a great young man to talk to and is going to make some college team very happy next February.

Vols Courting Louisiana's Shaw
December 19, 2005

Last year, Tennessee went to Louisiana and got a signature from Louisiana. This winter, the Vols are obviously seeking the signature of Jai Eugene, but he is not the only Louisiana prospect on the Vols list.

Tennessee is currently pursuing defensive linemen Jarrod Shaw of Lafayette, Louisiana.

"Coach Trooper was by the house last week," Shaw said. "Tennessee is recruiting me pretty hard. I am heading up there for a visit on January 13th."

After a trip to Knoxville, the 6-foot-4, 344 pound Shaw is set to see the Florida Gators on January 20th.

"Those are the only two trips I have set up right now," Shaw said. "I have heard some from Notre Dame, Michigan and Ole Miss, but I am not sure if I am going to take any more visits or not."

As for the Gators, Shaw said he has been impressed with the coaches.

"They have a good coaching staff there," Shaw said. "I also have a friend Keiland Williams who is thinking about going there. So if we both went there then we would both have someone we knew going in."

As for the Vols, Shaw sees similar things.

"I am pretty cool with Coach Trooper," Shaw offered. "I get along with him well. I like the way he describes Tennessee, but I just have to see for myself on the visit. I also know Lucas Taylor so I would know someone up there too. Lucas and I grew up playing against each other."

Shaw said Tennessee is recruiting him as a defensive tackle, but he is fully aware that his best position in college might end up being on the other side of the ball.

"My coaches have talked to me about the offensive line," Shaw said. "They feel that is the best position for me for my future which is fine. I played in some goal line situations this year on offense and I liked it ok. I am more comfortable at defensive tackle because that is the position that I have always played."

Like many prospects, Shaw is glad to get a break from visits and from school, but he is also looking forward to checking out some schools.

"I am looking forward to my trips," Shaw said. "Academics are an important part to this. I want to major in business. The other factor will be how quickly I think I can adjust to be away from home. Distance from home is a factor, but you have to grow up at some point."

This is from an August 22, 2005 article. ND was on this guy at some point.

The 6-foot-4, 344-pound Shaw attended the NIKE camp in Oxford where he ran the 40-yard dash in 5.49 seconds, ran the shuttle in 4.97 seconds, did 27 reps on the bench press and posted a 23-inch vertical jump.

"Right now Tennessee and UCLA have offered, but that's it," Shaw said. "Notre Dame, Michigan and Florida send me mail just about everyday. I get some letters and stuff from LSU, but most other schools are recruiting me harder."

Shaw spent a few minutes to break down his favorites for Rivals.com.

"I want to major in business and UCLA has one of the best business schools out there," Shaw said. "Coach Bienemy came in during the spring and told me that they needed some good defensive players to win a national championship. Coach Washington from Tennessee came down in the spring and we talked and the next week I got an offer in the mail."

Just spent about 5-10 minutes reading posts on some LSU forums. It looks like several locals like the kid a lot and want to see him a Tiger.

Kid sounds great!! How is it that only two schools offered?

Haven't seen the kid nor the talent that the kid plays against, but he sounds like a good fit to wear the blue and gold.

The kid weighted 344 at that Nike camp according to Rivals. It looks like he dropped about 30 lbs as he is now listed an inch taller and at 315. Give him a call... it can't hurt.

Lousiana's Shaw will announce Monday morning

As the final ten days of recruiting arrives, Tennessee fans anxiously await news of decisions from those remaining on the Vols board. The first on the board scheduled to make news to start the week is Lafayette, Louisiana defensive tackle Jarrod Shaw. Shaw will make his decision public tomorrow morning as he announces between the Vols and LSU.

Recruiting: Williams, Shaw use trips to gather information
Eric Narcisse
enarcisse@theadvertiser.com

Year in and year out, fans of high school athletics hear about athletes taking recruiting visits to universities across the country.
Former Northside High running back Keiland Williams and current Vikings defensive tackle Jarrod Shaw found out first hand what those recruiting visits are all about, and the two high-profile prospects enjoyed their experiences.
....
The 6-5, 315-pound Shaw, who was scheduled to visit Florida this weekend before canceling, made only one official visit and that was with the Tennessee Volunteers.

"Everything about Tennessee was nice," Shaw said. "I loved the city, the players and the coaching staff. We all went out and ate dinner."

Shaw, who also is considering LSU, said he spent a lot of his visit time with Vols' freshman defensive tackles Dan Williams and Vladimir Richard.

"We spent a lot of time just talking about football," Shaw said. "We talked about whether or not Tennessee would be a good situation for me."

Talking to the players was high on Shaw's to-do list during his visit.

"I want to hang out with the players and talk to them, because I felt they would be honest," Shaw said. "Coaches will try to paint a perfect picture for you, but the players really tell you what's going on."

Too bad on Shaw... he looks to be a fine prospect. I'm sure we'll hear of him again.
