Dan Stevenson To The Cfl?
Dan Stevenson To The Cfl?
On what basis do you make this assessment????? Have you been following his developments since graduation and the NFL Draft?
Dan Stevenson just signed a four year (rookie maximum) contract with the Patriots. Bill Belichick has a history of contacting former coaches and associates for their player assessments before the draft. [Notice how many players are on their rooster from LSU (when Saban was coach), Fresno St (Pat Hill) and now Notre Dame (Charlie Weis).]
They have a history of taking undrafted and low-round picks and letting long-time coach Dante Scharneccia turning them into serviceable pros - See three Super Bowl victories with only one lineman, LT Matt Light, a high draft pick (2nd round, Purdue). The only exception was Logan Mankins, from Fresno State, a surprise first-round draft choice two years ago. RG Steven Neal, for example, the near Pro Bowl-caliber lineman was an undrafted free agent who was a college wrestler.
Last year, Coach Weis mentioned that Dan Stevenson "reminded him of OG Joe Andruzzi, [described as not flashy; but a steady, dependable, workman-like type] a player who[m] he had coached in NE."
The Patriots place a great deal of stock in versatility [Notice that Coach Weis is recruiting players who can play more than one position. Guess where that idea came from?]. Dan Stevenson was used at both OG and C, as well as long snapping at the rookie and recently completed mini-camp.
Patriots Football Weekly, the official newsnewspaper of the New England Patriots, when assessing the rookies and free agents, mentioned that "Dan Stevenson looked good in both mini-camps so far and could end up being the steal of this draft for the Patriots."
It doesn't sound to me like Dan Stevenson is going anywhere but Foxborough, MA!
