Seeing the stadium about 35-40% full of Louisville fans and twice as loud as ND fans. I also found it embarrassing that students were throwing ice balls onto the field.

Snowball fights (or marshmallows) in the student section are a tradition now, and Louisville fans had a first in a lifetime trip to ND. Also season ticket holders should be able to recoup some of the money they lost supporting a team that folded down the stretch.

I realize it was UL's first trip there, but it's still no excuse to me.

You realize it was marshmellows not snowballs...

I thought they might be, but they were hitting the field with regularity from pretty far up. I didn't think anyone could throw a marshmallow that far. lol

Call me old and grumpy (I do stand at the games), but throw them in the stands, not on the field.

Senior day tradition to have a marshmallow fight. Sometimes there are snowballs too. At the Syracuse game in 2008, people (ESPN) thought that the students were throwing snowballs at the players. Nope, students throwing them were mostly trying the hit the TV time out guy because they were angry about how long the game was taking in freezing weather.

It was wet so people were clumping the mellows together which made for big mellow balls that could easily reach the field

They looked pretty big on TV. At any rate, the 2008 team who lost to lowly Syracuse deserved snowballs.

Some people used to stuff small rocks into their marshmallows so that they could go further.

I only really saw them on TV near the end of the second quarter (it's a halftime tradition). Was it going on more than that?

Not sure I'd say this team's folded, but hey, whatever you say.

It was going on all game long. There were a couple of times when players stepped on the field to pick them up.

I was lucky enough to catch this game from the gold seats on the ND sideline at the about the north 45 yd line. Father Jenkins was none too pleased when a few students were deliberately throwing them at the Notre Dame sideline. Mike McGlinchey actually caught quite a few mellows while the OL was gathered around Hiestand throughout the game. The Louisville band got their fair share of mellow targets as well. At half about 8 elderly fans around me had had enough of the marshmellows and left. I got pelted a few times but didn't really care (I was sitting in the freaking gold seats right behind the ND bench after all) but I wish they would kept the mellow wars more in the students sections. The people who my dad and I came to the game/gifted us the gold seats were not fans of getting struck by some of the larger marshmellows.

The Louisville crowd thing was definitely embarrassing but hell they only have one stinking cheer to memorize and they used it a lot. So congrats to them on knowing C-A-R-D-S. But I'm seriously disappointed ND fans were so disengaged with this game on the schedule to allow that many freaking U of L fans to buy tickets over them at Notre Dame freaking stadium. Piss pour home field advantage.

I sat near the student section for the NW game, saw several snowballs thrown down that seemed to originate from the students. One big guy got hit and was really pissed. Kind of a dick move to throw snowballs on random people, whether it was the students or not.

Also I really hate what NBC has done to this team and the fan base. All you have to do is go to a game at ND then DVR the game on NBC to know that there is something seriously wrong with this partnership. The product on the field hasn't been much help the past two weeks but it's almost like they are antagonizing fans into being even more negative.

Extreme criticism of every little mistake that ND makes and nothing but great things to say about whatever opponent ND is playing that week. If I was watching this game at home on my couch I would have thought the team was folding it up after the half and canceling the football program till the end of time.

From my seats near the ND bench I could tell that the team was engaged and the fans were engaged and we played well enough to win against a pretty decent opponent. I saw and partially heard Kelly give Morgan a personal talking to after the targeting call about being smarter then that but also told Morgan he liked how aggressive he played before Morgan had to leave the sideline. This team absolutely has the will to win but a lot of them are too young to know how to win just yet.

This team isn't quitting but the narrative that NBC puts out there is so negative that it's no wonder the fanbase is a pack of ravenous dogs after a close lose against 8-3 U of L.

It's fantastic that ND is lucky enough to have it's own network for every home game but this BS with the schmucks calling the game has got to stop. It's negating a lot of the good that the partnership brings. With Jack being at almost every home game in person he's gotta be hearing it from other people that these broadcasts are hurting the brand. Stop playing around and get ND guys in the freaking NBC booth.

My problem with NBC is that the announcers always sound like they're announcing golf. They don't get into it at all. They also mute the hell out of the stadium noise on the broadcast.

Whenever Mike Golic Jr. decides to hang up the cleats it would be awesome to have him in the booth. I really like his dad on Mike and Mike in the morning, which is really the only program I can continuously watch on ESPN. It seems like Golic Jr. would be into that line of work as he was doing some broadcasting stuff at Notre Dame before graduating.

dear God nooooo, Golic Jr has as much charisma as a block of timber. He was absolutely cringeworthy on those Trick Shot Monday videos. I have a sneaking suspicion though that him and Austin Collinsworth will be the faces/voices of Notre Dame football in the future. Am not looking forward to that one bit :/

I noticed that same thing listening to the NU game. Was Flutey back on the sidelines or did they leave Mayock down there?

Describes the perception my friends have of Notre Dame football in general.

The NBC presentation is just boring. Do we not have as many cameras as the ABC/ESPN/CBS guys or are we working with a JV crew? They always seem to have great and instantaneous replay angles.

Let's just sign a contract with ESPN, they are not afraid to pump up the teams they have a financial stake in. The NBC broadcasts are brutal.

Flutie has been in the booth the past two games with Mayock bringing his personal brand of ND criticism to the sidelines. At this point Mayock has just been trolling ND and is getting away with it. He is becoming a parody of Mark May. Multiple times this year he has felt that plays that were reviewed and correctly called by the officials were wrong or he "didn't see it that way" and those plays just so happened to be in the Irish's favor. Case in point during the Michigan game: The big hit on Trembetti was "great football" but the very last play when Gardner is blocked perfectly with proper position and got flagged was "the right call by officials".

Let's just sign a contract with ESPN, they are not afraid to pump up the teams they have a financial stake in. The NBC broadcasts are brutal.

Haha I would really hate to see ND partnered with ESPN in anyway but you can tell ESPN knows how to pump up a brand aka the SEC.

NBC's goal for Irish football on it's network seems to be 'how do we use all the ND logos, footage, great academic achievement, and team access we want while getting a nationwide viewership without looking like we are fans of the football team.' (asshole in the meeting raises hand) "Let's steamroll their football broadcasts with how amazing one kid on the opposing team is a blessing to this world and talk about that one kid for half the broadcast while Mayock tries to sound like he is a football expert on any and all mistakes that the Irish make! (Producers) "Brilliant!"

My problem with NBC is that the announcers always sound like they're announcing golf. They don't get into it at all. They also mute the hell out of the stadium noise on the broadcast.

That seems to be the general criteria for the play by play guy that ND football gets. Hammond and Hicks were experienced sportcasters but their best sportcasting sure as hell is not meant for football games. Hicks is great for golf and the olympics, Hammond is great for haunted houses and scary stories.

I could not possibly agree more. This has got to change. There has to be something we can do! NBC makes millions off of ND, we should be able to have the say in it all.

Someone who CARES about ND should call the dang games.
The people for the Pre and Post game shows should also be people who love Notre Dame. NOT NFL and Boston College grads.

It really gets to you when you're watching the game. I remember back in 2012 when whats-his-face was calling the Stanford game and he says "And we're back in South Bend where the sun is setting on Notre Dames perfect season" and the game was still very close. This stuff makes me so mad.
People think that being 'neutral' means that you have to be negative (well in this Anti-Irish society thats probably true). When the Navy game was on CBS and Aaron was calling it...dude was more negative against ND then if Brady Hoke called the game. He wasn't neutral at all, completely against the Irish.

Compare and contrast:

Edit: I can't get the NBC player to start at the right time. Skip to 38s in the video for Golson's TD.

I was at the Michigan game and then went home and watched the replay. Holy cow, it's like they intentionally removed crowd noise. Listen to how the SEC broadcast increases the crowd noise feed as the TD occurs.

Counting the defenders on the field at 3:43 in the above video is what I find really embarrassing about this year.
