If this is how we match up against a team like USF...

Coach Kelly is ultimately responsible for this brutal, embarassing loss. Crist is simply trying to do what he is incapable of doing....completing passes...at least right now. Passes from the helmet up aren't going to allow your receivers to get control of the pass and have any YAC. On the numbers.....

How can you have a quarterback, who wins his last 4 games, turning a dismal season around, and then place him as your backup on the season opener?!?!?!? Amateur coaching. PERIOD!

Kelly's antics (Yelling, ranting etc...) are old news, and the players DO NOT respect him. This will make for a very long, undisciplined and disappointing season.....AGAIN!

Here's hoping the Irish fans can continue to cheer proudly for the likes of Rees, Floyd and the other true ND standouts. Go Irish!

Kelly has only seen Dayne in practice.

Kelly can't see how he handles the nerves during a game.

I guarantee Dayne was better than Tommy this off season.

Kelly deserves criticism for misjudging which quarterback gave his team the best chance to win. Quarterback evaluation is supposed to be his bread and butter. He bet on the wrong horse. Where he gets credit is for his willingness to admit a mistake and not be stubborn. There's admirability in that.

Wrong.

Who was the coach LAST year?

Who started the season for us LAST year?

Not saying Crist is better than Rees... Just trying to specify (unless I missed something)

On the "secondary" point of whether Kelly should yell at Crist for screwing up: The one time that he didn't was when Crist came off the field late in the first half after another screw-up. THAT is when Kelly finally let his emotions get to him --- HE IGNORED Crist, despite Dayne coming right over to him and wanting the interaction. THAT is what crushed Crist more than anything. Kelly only responded to him when Dayne continued to hover and asked a question. Kelly only slightly looked at him then. Is that the way these anti-Kelly screamers want him to coach?? Kelly is correct to get in their faces. To not do so, devastates them. I'm all for the man yelling at them. They know then that he cares about how they're playing and has not given up on them, nor that they have totally let everyone down.

Special teams was spotty at best, dropped punts, muffed punts, missed FG (boy did that turn out to be a MAJOR mistake). I will say that Harrison's first face mask penalty (would not be called by most ref's), second one was totally legit. Floyd's holding call, again would not be called by most ref's. The other penalties were mental error's that should not be made by veteran players that were making them. Not sure what happen during that opening drive, but ND was executing flawlessly until Grey's fumble. It was clear that USF could not contain the Irish O. But miscues and mental toughness did contain the Irish O from really exploding out there. They shot themselves in the foot everytime they could. Crist appeared to get a bit panicky and that led to him finding some pine. Rees however showed that he should have been the starter from the out set. He runs the offense well. He did show some inexperiance in a few bad choices but that should be expected and will correct themselves as the season moves along. Defense was what I expected it to be....very tough, but jeez what is with all the arm tackles? It was if a CW defense was out there,, demonstrating poor fundamentals.
