Ideas/Changes/Additions for IE

I don't think there is a thread about this anywhere so I thought I would start a new one. I thought a good idea would maybe to add a live chat on this site. I think that would be a good idea. Any other ideas?

It's been suggested before. As I understand it, IE hasn't implemented a chat feature because they're very difficult to moderate.

Yeah I see. When you say moderate what is the site concerned about exactly?

Live chat would be ridiculous on this site simply because the site has so much traffic particularly during games.

Yeah I can understand that. I'm sure there is a couple of ways to stop the spam. The trash talk as long as it's not threatening wouldn't bother me any. I don't know I think it's a good idea. I know a lot of people start talking about random subjects in recruits threads and I think it would cut that out, for the most part.

Just throw down a disclaimer related to bad words, etc, and let 'er rip tator chip.

Disclaimer: No pansies allowed. Some vulgarity and other poorly written and distasteful chat may occur. Participants be advised a dynamic and impossible-to-moderate environment is present. Violators will be held accountable as all chat transcripts may be reviewed. Go Irish!

Other sites do it. Mgoblog in particular. All comments have to be moderated under a certain level of number of posts. Clearly it can be done, and I am sure enough of us regulars could be trusted with the keys so the Site Mods can chillax. In fact if you install an IRC plugin it would be much easier to pick and chose Operators to moderate the chat channels.

You'd have to pay someone to patrol that pig pen... There is a chat option, but it's not active.

I could see it being a complete mess and in my opinion, the mods are stretched pretty thin on the main board as it is without having to play babysitter realtime on gameday. You can't do it moderated unless you can schedule people like a job to have to be "all hands on deck"...and some times, that's not possible.

How about just a game day/in game only chat. Make a list of voluntary moderators and a few will be assigned to each game. It opens and closes 30 minutes prior and post game. If at least 2 of say 4 moderators aren't present, its deactivated for that game. The voluntary mods would of course be an accepted list of vets who are trusted.

...and that's fine, but what would you authorize the "voluntary mods" to do? Having done it, it sucks having to do the day-to-day stuff as not one us, past or present wants to hammer people/ban/discipline....What type of ammo do you give said volunteer? Great suggestion...just too much grey area there.

Good question. Anyone wanna save/help me on this one. Maybe banning from the chats and or the same as current mods if their behior was that far past the line.

Rule#1 Whatever happens in chat, stays in chat. That is, you mess around and you are out of chat. Keep it separate from the boards and IMPOSE THE POST LIMIT. If you impose the post limit you lose 99% of the trolls.

Why are the loading times so slow on this site all of a sudden? Every other site I visit zips but this site takes forever to load. I have pretty good internet service, I don't get it.

Here's one: Make a separate subforum for recruits that have written off ND. It will unclutter the recruiting board and make it easier to see which recruits still might go to Notre Dame.

I think live chat on IE would be awesome, but if we did have it, I'd probably never get anything done on my days off again.
