This sucks! Has anyone ever gone through this? I was seen at the ER last night, but don't have an appt with the ENT until monday. Does anyone know when I'll get my hearing back?

hOLY ****....how did it happen?

what i found

Expectations (prognosis)
A ruptured or perforated eardrum may be uncomfortable, but it usually heals by itself within 2 months. Any hearing loss is usually temporary.

A rupture would make me think permanent damage, but not total loss.
But as a musician I baby the hell out of my ears, and notice the little losses that come naturally with age...I dislike it!

I hope it all heals up and you don't have any noticeable after affects!

My mom is an audiologist so I know a little bit about this. It should heal by itself in a month or so. Nothing to really worry about (other than the discomfort)

When I was a kid I had reconstructive ear drum surgery, I don't know why I had to get this but my hearing is better now then before.

Hey, Epitome, just checking on you. How's that ear doing? Hope you're healing up.

Doing good thanks... I go back into the doctor next monday. We are hoping that he will be able to remove some of the dry blood that has built up in my ear canal. He seems to think that this will give me quite a bit of relief. He also says that this sould be a short term. Knowing that, I can't be more excited that it's half way over.

I know it's late for it now - but I've had a ruptured ear drum a couple of times. It really sucks at first because you're in a panic - but they usually heal on their own. It's best to let an ENT look at it as it's healing (once at three weeks, once at six weeks) just to make sure it has healed correctly. Your hearing will come back slowly, but it will never be as strong as it once was (though the difference may be negligible)

*stops boring you with useless medical knowledge*
