You can say what you want about him as a player of a team most of us have no use for, but as a model of what a college athlete should embody, I think he is the gold standard.

If Tim Tebow did the things at ND that he did at Florida, we would all be saying he was the second coming. The kid does everything right and he deserves a tremendous amount of respect.

I have doubts about Timmy's throwing ability. Jimmy Clausen would dominate him in a passing competition.

Agreed as would Colt McCoy but then Manning and Favre would dominate Roethelisberger and that makes him no less of an athlete nor less able to get it done when it matters.

My own personal opinion on Tebow is that he is someone that no matter how much you want to dislike him, you just can't. Back in the "good old days" his father and he would probably have been falling over themselves to get to ND and he'd have been a legend here. Would I swop him for Clausen though? No I wouldn't, I wouldn't swop anyone for Jimmy and boy will I be sad to see him go (as I believe he will).

Tebow will fail in the NFL. He'll be out of the league by 2015.

I get tired of all his God this & God that crap (although I think he's more genuine about it than McCoy). God does not care about Football, if he did Notre Dame would have 113 National Championships (of course he'd probably throw BC a couple here & there) & he would have burnt the BYU stadium to the ground the day it was built.

If you're gonna make a statement like Tebow will be out of the NFL by 2015, don't you think you need to back that up in some way?

Why? I'm entitled to my opinion.

The NFL is a passing league. He's nothing special as a passing QB.

...kind of agree.

He's not shifty enough to feature in the wildcat, and I don't think he can make the throws as a standard QB...where does that leave him.

now, he could do the total transformation thing, and become something he apparently is not right now...a pocket QB. He seems to have the drive and intelect to remake himself into whatever he wants...but who in the NFL will wait as long as that will take?

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but if I said Clausen will be a failure in the NFL I think I might be expected to give a few reasons as to why.

I think your assessment of him is a bit simplistic and overlooks other qualities he has in spades that will make him a potential star in the NFL.

Passing Efficiency

Work rate

I'd be willing to take that bet.

That much I can agree with. He's obviously no dummy & plays with a tremendous amount of heart but that will only get you so far. I just don't know if he possesses the athletic ability to do it. If he does than fine I'll gladly come back here in a few years & chew on my foot but in my opinion I just don't see it happening. Look at the lot of prolific College QB's in recent years who are failing miserably in the NFL because while they were coached well in the College game, they were taught very few skills that translate into the NFL.

I knew that would get somebody :p

It was a joke. I have Mormon friends & nothing against them. I probably watch to much South Park for my own good. Sense of humor is a bit skewed.

My apologies if it offended you or anyone else.

I do like Tebow as a person, but he does remind me of "that guy" we all know that is a great person but is always shoving religion down our throats. Means well but doesn't understand it makes you feel uncomfortable.

I think it is a tragedy how ESPN has made him so polarizing now. I do not understand why he is even being mentioned for the Heisman this year. Good God look at his stats compared to everyone else. How can Golden Tate not be in contention. That's a tragedy in my opinion.

I agree that he won't be in the NFL long. I think he will end up being a college coach somewhere later in life, probably a religious school somewhere. Great college player, but that is it.

None of which will overcome lack of athletic ability. He thrives under the system he's in now. He won't have that in the NFL.

Tebow's game just doesn't translate well into the NFL - like most Heisman winners. He's essentially a power runner that can throw the ball a little too. The LB's in the NFL are too big and too fast for Tebow to lower his shoulder play after play to push for extra yards. There is no way he would physically last through a season with players like Ray Lewis, Brian Urlacher, or Patrick Willis beating him down all game long.

And then there's the matter of his throwing motion... He's such a gifted athlete and he was supposed to working on shortening his throwing motion all off season to make him more prepared for the NFL. I've seen Kiper and other analysts say that they haven't seen a change at all in his motion. I guess he'll need another off season of work. He was also supposed to work from under the center this year, but Meyer scrapped that plan pretty quick.

The thing that annoys me the most about the Tebow hype is the 2 National Championship talk. That's like talking about all of the Super Bowls that Steve Young won. Young won 1 SB and Montana won the rest for the 49ers - just like Tebow won one NC and Chris Leak won one NC. No credit for a backup.

But I agree with other posts that I'm more annoyed with the coverage of Tebow rather than Tebow himself. He won't be anything in the NFL, but he's been an outstanding player in college and he's a great teammate that I would want on my team. My college team that is.

I can't stand the guy-thumbs up for heart though.

Still, one day he's going to wake up and realize that he spent his time as the starting qb at a national championship Florida Gators team chaste as a priest. And he talks about it. One day he'll hate himself for that. In the spirit of rumor season: you heard it here first.

Also, I miss bacon. When I get back to the states a bacon egg and cheese sandwich is the first thing I'm getting.

Holy crap guys talk about reviving a dead thread...... i made this before the season started i think. Anyways, i really dont care about the NFL, as it is turning into a pussy game. Helmet to helmet, horse collar, touching the QB are all penalties, and that shit rolls downhill (into college football).

College football is still the epitome of what the game stands for, its not played for money, but for the love and passion the players have for playing the game. Unless you are USC, then it is played for money.

Tim is one of the greatest college FOOTBALL players to ever play the game. His leadership is second to none today. He is not the best QB ever, but hell, thats not something that matters to me. Should he win the heisman? With his numbers, no. With his record, yes.

Wanted to hate him, until I first watched him play, still don't love him but as a football player you have to respect him.....not necessarily as a QB, but a football player. That being said, I can't stand how bspn makes him to be the next coming of the big JC.

I believe that Tebow is an upstanding person. He is for the most part genuine in his comments and actions. If not for the media, I believe that most people would "like" Tebow. It is the media's constant adulation that turns some to dislike Tebow. Especially when the media fawns over Tebow with mediocre stats and ignores the occasional bad game (e.g., two interceptions, etc.).

When one plays on a team with the talent that Florida has, it is uncommon to lose a game. One question I ask myself when evaluating Tebow is how would another quarterback fare in wins and losses with the cast that surrounds Tebow? Conversely, how would Tebow fare with a different team, say a ND or Louisville?

My answer to question #1 is: I think Clausen would be equally successful in wins and losses at Florida and have better passing stats, but no where near Tebow in running stats. Overall, from a QB perspective better stats.

My answer to question #2 is: Tebow would probably end up the same as Clausen in wins and losses at ND. I don't see him producing more points than Jimmy and he doesn't play defense so there certainly wouldn't be any fewer points being put up by the opposition. The one factor that could impact my conclusion is how Tebow would perform with a lot less time to throw in ND's offense. He actually could end up with being less productive than Jimmy notwithstanding the fact that he is obviously a much better runner. Sometimes there just hasn't been anywhere to run.

Did anyone else just see the feature on Gameday just now on Tim Tebow and the teenager from FL who died? How the hell am I supposed to root against Tebow today? Dude is everything I want my kids (when I have some) to be. Damn. I was all set to root against him; I wanted the nation to see that he is NOT a good throwing QB whatsoever, but now I feel like a bad Christian rooting against him LOL.

Having said that...go 'Bama!!!

It was a fantastic piece. This kid is about as genuine as they come. Can I change my vote? ;)

He'd have been a stud in our wildcat.... or in the redzone as a back...

Kiper on Gameday radio said that Bama and Florida each play 10 1st or 2nd rounders and Tebow's not one of them.

Without that talent around him... he's an interesting QB... not Heisman... at least this year. If he played for any other top 10 team this year he wouldn't be in the discussion or his name wouldn't be known.

Good role model off the field, overrated player, and an arrogant prick on the field. I do not hate him but they hype for him is ridiculous.

Wonder if Florida would have won a National Championship with a real QB on their 2009 team. 12 passing TDs, about 1700 yards, passing (discounting Chaz. Southern, Troy, and Fla. Int.), 5 picks (2 returned for TD's) and 10 running TD's... I think Urbey bought into the Teabag hype and for 2009 it didn't pan out.
