Yea, so with so much hate on this board for the Florida QB who has won two national championships in 3 years, i figured i would start a thread in the opposite direction. I like the guy. Hes a competitive Christian athlete who has come up big when his team needs him in big games. His teammates respect him, listen to him, and feed off his play. Even the defense.

The media likes him too, because, much of the time, the media likes winners (see USC's Pete Carrol for more details). He played Saturdays game with the flu, leading his team to victory, leaving in an ambulance. Jimmy played Saturdays game with a hurt toe, leading his team to victory. Im a fan of competitors, people whos only goal is to win, and i havent seen anything from Tebow that says he is in it for himself.

Same reason i like kobe, tate, tiger, favre.... i like athletes who only have one thing in mind, winning. Everyone hates losing, never meet a person who liked it at all. But not everyone absolutely LOVES winning. People like it, but these competitive athletes all out love it.

Back to Tebow...... what do you guys think? Like him, hate him, let me know. Im interested to see what people think. Hell I will even post a poll.

I really like Tebow as a person. He is the definition of a role model, considering his fame and popularity. He is an exceptional leader, a fiery competitor, and he has an avid passion for the game that is unmatched. He's also a pretty damn good quarterback.

I feel bad for Tim. ESPN has an absolute lovefest with this guy (partly because Tebow is a good role model for kids), and everything Tebow does is headline news on ESPN. It got a little annoying during the ND-Purdue game, where they interrupted the game to tell us Tim Tebow was hospitalized (about 300 times in a two hour span). They really exploit Tebow and generate a lot of hate for such an undeserving guy.

Like the guy, hate ESPN.

I give the guy a lot of props for how he conducts himself both on and off the field. He came back for a fourth year when he could have taken the instant millions waiting for him. He is a warrior and you have got to respect that.

Things are not black/white. Like him/dislike him.
What's not to like? Nice guy. A rah rah guy. Has heart. He's a man - I could only wish to be able to hold my own in any manner. He's a leader. He's spiritual. He likes Philipino kids.
I guess, until he loses - he's the leader. But, he lost last year. He had all of the talent in the world - maybe the most talented team in a while.

He has a similar team this year. 11 starters back on defense. 30 4 & 5 star athletes (on offense alone) in the last 4 recruiting classes. How does a Charleston Southern, Troy, Kentucky, Tennessee - line up 11 defensive players on 8, 9, 10, 11, offensive 5 stars?

How would Sharpley look with that surrounding cast?

Tebow produces pretty pedestrian results (stats) with that supporting cast. He stands out, in rushing touchdowns in the redzone. And, the fake option ali-oop pass. Would Locker look better if he went 10-2 with his surrounding cast?

He's a great wildcat fullback - but the the best college football player? He's a QB. Is he the best QB? Could he run the ND offense? USC? A pro style offense? Then again Clausen couldn't do what Tebow does of run Urben's offense - so what's the answer?

It's just not black or white. Whether I like him or not. Whether I would put my money on him in a gladiator ring? I could do that. But consider him the best college football player for 2009. Can't say a win and those numbers against Chaz. Sou., Troy, Tenn., and Kentucky say anything. Last year he had 2 come from behind games where it was on him. He did it once.

Exactly. I want my son to be like a Tim Tebow. Not athletically (although that would be damn nice as well LOL), but as a human being.

Like it's been said, my problem is with the media fascination with every little thing he does. If he had done what JC had done this weekend, I hinestly think that some sportscasters' heads might have literally exploded at ESPN, from all the excitement. And not just ESPN. Writers across the country go overboard with this kid. He hasn't played one good team but he's leading the Heisman race? Please.

He deserves the accolades and the love, just not the OVERhype that he gets. It's just too much. Not his fault, but that's what the meida is all about, unfortunately. They turned me against Brett Favre years ago...

Tebow

Tebow

How can you not like the guy and respect him. Thats not good as Tebow has done nothing but do it right. With that said I'll take Jim Clausen over him all day. He's also a leader and better QB.

I have doubts about Timmy's throwing ability. Jimmy Clausen would dominate him in a passing competition.

Tebow is a perfect example of what good/great team leader can do for a team. He is prolly the best leader college football has seen in quite some time. (that doesnt mean he deserves the Cleisman)

I have always thought that Mark Messier was the best leader in team sports, ever.

Kirk Gibson, that year he was with the Dodgers, was man amongst boys too.

Leadership in team sports in invaluable...

I don't dislike Tebow but he seems like he seems so preachy. I bet ifhe were at ND he would trry to convert Te'o. That bothers me about him.

Its like when someone comes upto and says "i'd like to talk to you about God", you may have the same beliefs but still get away from me.

Don't think I've ever seen him play, other than highlights. I don't give a dang about Florida. I'd rather go shopping than watch a Florida game.

The replay I saw on the hit concerned me when his neck popped forward. Hell, you can get over a concussion, but when the neck goes... Prayers to him for a quick recovery, but Jimmy is my Cleisman.

I can agree with most of your thoughts. A little disagreement on the him pushing his religion on people thing jason, because im pretty sure thats what mormons (mantis religion) do also. And most other Christian sects goal also is spreading christianity..... technically what Catholics are is christians, a version of the Christian religion. Cant dislike the kid for it, it was what he was brought up with. If you dislike him for it, might as well dislike Manti when he witnesses for The church of the Later Day Saints.

I would never watch a florida game over ND games, but i do watch other college football on saturdays. Generally dont give a dang about what the media says. Hell i would hate weis and love obama if i listened to the media (and yea, i still like Favre too). But thanks for the input fellas, i was just wondering what other ND fans thought.

Watching ESPN - College Fotball Live - whether Florida can win National Championship without Tebow? - Herbstreet: It would be tough???????????????

They have 2 5 stars in reserve!!!! 30 4 & 5 stars on offense (Not to mention 5th years). The entire National Championship defense returned!!!!!

WTF - if that's the case - their not as good as we thought.

You mean to tell me - if Tebow would have chosen to go in the third round last year - this team wouldn't be ranked #1.

Ingrham hurt himself yesterday.... Colt came through and put his name back in contention.... Spiller could add votes today. Hopefully we keep Gerhart's name out of further consideration... Tebow.. a good leader, however, may have been the best wildcat fullback in college football... but naming him the nation's best college football player in 2009... by any stretch of the imagination that would be a step closer to making the Heisman irrelevent.

Did anybody see the interview they had with Tim on ESPNEWS yesterday? He was asked how he wanted to be remembered and went on a long, forty-five to sixty second rant which was actually a thinly veiled description of how great he thinks he is.

I dont have a problem with Tebow personally. I just hate how exaggerated the media's love affair with him is. ESPN just broke that he walks on water. Oh and that answer ClausentoFloyd was referring to was made into a plaque in the Florida locker room
