How do you think other players view Clausen?

Being in South Bend I hear a lot of B.S. about ND football. In fact my dad knows the plumber who worked on Clausen's parent's house up here. So through the grapevine I've heard that no one talks to Clausen. How true this is I don't know, but I truely do not believe that at all. So my question to the board is how do you think other players view Clausen as a person and QB. I am sure that some of the players saw and most of them heard how Clausen made his annoucement to ND. The board has brought up that the o-line is terrible at blocking, do you think that the line would block better if Evan Sharpley or Dayne Crist was under center??

You need to go to blueandgold.com and read Jason Sapp's daily practice report. He only gets 20 minutes to watch, but he gets to watch during stretching, and he hears what the players say to each other. From everything I've read since the beginning of practice, the players really get along w/ JC. The fact that they voted him captain, as a sophomore, says all you need to know.

And you can put Joe Montana in his prime behind this line and they still wouldn't be able to run the ball. There's a reason Sharpley is the backup and Crist is redshirting; JC is much better than they are at this point. Crist shouldn't see the field as a starter for 2 more years, unless JC falters completely (not likely), or JC turns pro (also not likely). Mods should put a 'CLOSED' sign on this thread...

Last year I was at an ND B-ball game (with seats a few rows from Powlus and Weis thanks to my sister in laws dad working for the AD), and Clausen and other players were hanging out nearby. Brian Smith, Allen, Aldridge, Neal, etc, were all there, and Clausen was definitely not an afterthought. He looked as close to the 15+ other players as you imagine. FWIW, he even dresses kinda hip-hop wannabe lookin'. I'm sure he is not on the outside. Just a ridiculous rumor.

I believe during their off week, Clausen went to Tennessee to see his sister and attend a TN football game. More than a few players went with him, and not just players who were from in TN. so I think the team's chemistry is just fine.

Clausen played a part in trying to help recruit other players to come to Notre Dame and win with him, so I would assume they get along just fine. Specifically, since his throws have given him all sorts of freshman receiving records at Notre Dame, I'd be pretty confident saying at least Michael Floyd likes him.

1. He's a soph. Sorry you JC bashers can't get with that fact. Go look at other successful senior QB's right now and look at their numbers as Sophs. Give me 5 who had better numbers, and make sure they ZERO running game.

Yes, you don't think JC is any good and that is your opinion and you're entitled to that. He has to prove you wrong and he's played poorly 3 games in a row, so he's proving your point. If he's not sick and it's not pouring, I think he plays waaaayyy better last week, but he didn't and we have to live with that. Scoreboard, you win.

I know you're fired up NDOM, and even though I disagree with you at times, at least you bring a strong take. But this one blows me away, even for you. To say that you LOVE the fact that he, as a ND QB, is not going to win a NC tells me that you're not a true ND fan. Because no real fan would be happy that one of their own, whose only character flaw that we've seen is that he's sure of his abilities, is not going to win a NC. When he gets hit late he pushes the guy back and says, you are not going to do that to me. He is a work in progress. I wonder what people said about Quinn mid way thru his sophomore season. He lost to Pitt, BC, Purdue, USC, and BYU. We only won 6 games that year and he had 17 TD's and 10 Ints that year. So if you do not like Clausen then get lost and we will see you in 2011, b/c he will be our QB till then.

i agree...no one will replace Quinn as my favorite ND QB of all time, But JC is 200% improved from last year. More Strength and conditioning and off season preparation and we should see an even more improved JC next season.

1. What the players think of the QB does matter. I know from playing. No confidence in or dislike for the QB sends a big negative vibe downstream.
2. Players don't vote for a guy they don't like as captain. If it was a players' vote that made him captain, that's good enough for me.

I think that the players probably view JC as a work in progress with tremendous potential. They should all view themselves that way because, as we've seen at times this year, there is a lot of talent on the field. JC looks like a good leader who doesn't get rattled easily. Everytime he walks on the field he believes that they can score and that type of confidence should project onto the other players.

Yeah I would say it to his face. Why am I so pissed off? Hmmm. lets see maybe the mediocre football for the past 12-15 years. I'm gonna refrain from bashing him but he doesnt handle himself well. Several times during the Boston College game he flipped the ball on the ground after a sack etc etc, then he wouldnt even talk to the coaches or the players. He just sat there like a little spoiled brat. I dont like the guy plain and simple. I dont think hes the one to take this team over the top. Thats someone else's job You'll see.
