Getting annoyed by everyone accusing others of HOMERISM. This is a ND fan site, yes sometimes we get caught up with emotions and enthusiasm. If you don't like this, go to a USC, Boston College or even a U of M fan site and talk to them.

Consider me guilty of drinking the kool-aid. It just tastes so good and the ones who distribute it are so convincing.

Those posters observing folks chastising others as homers, look for these characteristics:

-New Poster
-Recent big Irish accomplishments (AKA something to be proud of)
-Relatively negative comments often
-Positive comments only on things impartial to ND, such as "Da Bears"(lol.)
-Overall negative outlook

These are all the characteristics of a "troll." These species are not allowed on this site, as they warrant immediate expulsion without return most often.

I recommend you report the poster and posts immediately by clicking the icon designated underneath the username for such an occasion. Vigilantism is frowned upon. Trust me. I have sinned. I have also asked for penance, as I have been wrong in my accusation(s) in the past… You may also choose to PM a moderator.

I'm unfortunately am considered a "homer", but I wouldn't think I am as over the top as some people on here. I love enthusiasm. And we should all have it for ND. But for some people who honestly think we should expect a National Championship next year because we've won 8 games this year and got Aaron Lynch to commit to us are in a league of their own. These are the same people that think we should go undefeated every single year, a.k.a Lou Holtz.
I love Notre Dame, and think we can do great things soon with Brian Kelly as our coach, but for the ultra-homers on here, could we please calm down. This is a site developed for rational thoughts after all.

I am a realist so rarely will I show "homeristic" qualities. But I do not remember when signing up for this site anything in the user agreement about these things you call 'rational thoughts.' Most comments on here whether believed rational by one, some, or all is an opinion. We are all entitled to our own and to agree/disagree with others.

this post was typed w/ no negative intentions, plenty of sarcasm, and a smile on my face

I can remember a time not so long ago, the 2007 season, where people were thinking 8-4 at worst.
There were others comparing the season to Lou's, and predicing huge things.
I think we all have a right to be optimistic, but some are saying "why not a national championship".

Hey, it could happen, but there's very little possibilbity of that occurring.

Yes, Auburn did it, and so could we, but the chances are astronomical, and to be honest fellas, we haven't won anything worth anything since 88.

I love the optimism, but let's tone it down.

BTW, I'm a huge Notre Dame Homer.

Boggles my mind why we should care about whether someone wants to be "overly" optimistic about Notre Dame on a Notre Dame site. I object to posters who dump with over-the-top negativity on our team and particularly dump on individual players and recruits, as those posts do not contribute to the overall positive picture of ND and our program. I have no problem with people giving "rational" counter-arguments about Blue-Sky hypothesizing either, and do so myself, without, I hope, engaging in personal slander. If a reader has a problem with an over-enthusiastic post, there are two choices: write a rational counter-argument without name-calling or click to another page. Where's the testosterone coming from to bash people???

Isn't it great to trying to calm each other down about the reality of a Natl Championship next year, instead of debating who our next coach should be. Major strides this last year. YES! that makes us all HOMERS!

I am disappointed that this is even a thread. Why would you even want to follow a team if you don't have hope/belief that you are gonna be good. Do I rationally believe ND will win a NC next year? No. We are undefeated in 2011 however, and if we continue throughout we will be in the game next year. That is fact. Another fact is Stanford is changing regimes, as is Michigan, so there is the possibility that two of our opponent's are worse next year. Why couldn't we win all of our games? I have 7 months or so to be as unrealistic and optimistic as I want. Blue Gold game is next, and I bet we win that one...............................

I dont think that I would want to participate in a site that doesn't let people speak their mind as long as they are:

- Respectful of others (that includes recruits and their mothers)
- Are actually trying to make a point/argument
- Not being vulgar or innapropriate (over the top vulgarity, mind)
- Adding to the conversation through facts, well thought out arguments or humor.

Life isn't always puppy dogs and ice cream. Most of us are educated adults that dont need nor want smoke blown up our arses about the state of Notre Dame football. When things are great, we talk about it. When things are bad, we should be able to talk about that as well. One day we all grow up and realize our dad is the one eating the cookies on the coffee table, not Santa.

So I really don't think that if someone disagrees with you that we are going to not lose a game in the next century, you shouldn't be pm'ing the mods are making threads to tell people to keep their posts regulated only to those speaking about how wonderful things ALWAYS are. Educated discussion and debate makes us better fans and gives us opportunities to learn all sides each of the arguments pertaining to Notre Dame football. You should give their opinion the same amount of respect that you would darn well want for your own. If you are being respectful and have a point to make... well... then you should make it, even if someone else doesn't agree with it.

A lil off topic, but since I started the "Da Bears" thread and posted more than anyone else in it, I have to ask... is this supposed to be directed towards me?

If so, harsh dude.

I go into every game of every week believing that our boys will come out with a victory. Deep down, do I realize that there are many instances in which this is unlikely?

Maybe. Who cares?

I start every season dreaming that we will end the year as National Champions. Is that a real longshot?

Certainly.

I believe that every one of our student athletes is of the finest quality of character that you will find in young men anywhere. Is this true across the board?

Probably not, but I firmly believe it's pretty damn close to being accurate.

Like everybody else, I deal with the harsh realities of life every day. When it comes to Notre Dame - both the university and our beloved football team - I leave the rose colored glasses firmly screwed to my face.

Does that make me a homer?

Yup. - Proud of it.

For me, I would simply rather talk giddily about our exciting possibilities than dwell on our potential failings. Neither is going to change the outcome that will be, but one makes life WAY more fun that the other for me.

Things are heading in a positive direction for our beloved program. Lets all have a round of the kool-aid, relax, and enjoy the where we're headed cuz where we've been is happily fading away as a vivid painful memory.

C'mon guys. It's a freakin' message board and, no matter how seriously some might take it, is primarily for information and entertainment purposes. Not one aspect of anybody's "real" life is going to be, nor should be, the least bit affected by anything that is posted here--except, maybe, people who's real names are used and are insulted or slandered (e.g., recruits, players, etc.).

That having been said, the administrators of this board have made it clear that personal attacks on other posters is not allowed. I've always kind of thought that if you want to part of a "club," you've got to follow the rules. Otherwise, go join a different club. So, I agree with OMM and others about the civility that must be maintained, for this and other reasons (mainly having to do with common sense and good manners). But, otherwise, who cares about what someone posts? We all have different levels of knowledge of, and approaches to, ND football and other aspects of the University. It'd be awful boring around here if all the posts said the same damned thing in different words.

As to eternal optimism, I confess. I always thought the words to the fight song said "What tho' the odds be great or small, old Notre Dame will win over all. . . ." Not "well, I'll be optimistic and cheer loud if we look good on paper and had a top recruiting class the year before." And if someone else thinks differently, so what? It's just an opinion, and you know what they say about those.

I consider my self pretty level headed when it comes to the Irish. They've given me a dose of humility in the last few years, as they've been nothing to brag about. However, I love listening and reading to those "die hards" that keep us all hopeful. Yes, they may sound crazy at times, but wasn't it "crazy" that we went off on a 4 game winning streak to end the season, starting with holding a good Utah offense to 3 points?

Without "homers" there would be no enthusiasm in times of despair.

Go Irish!

Mountain William:Choices.

On having a good time---"If you ain't a misanthrope or a masochist, have at it. Your choices get limited once you're on the wrong side of the ground".

On Life---" The biggest problem in Life is knowing what itch to scratch and what to leave alone".

On Glamor---"No matter how pretty the Skunk, you have to run the other way".

Mountain William often confuses himself in these matters. And that's the fun of it too.

Nice. Although I'm pooping on my own lawn about USF next year. Another tough schedule out the gate next year.
