Hey ladies and gents. Im sitting here in the campus library because our teacher is late for my night class and I thought this might be a fun thread for those of us who played football back in the high school days. Sunday I found my senior football scrapbook and it brought back many fine and fun memories from back in the day for me and I called a few former teammates on the phone and facebook chatted with a few about some nice memories we had about our football days. Thought it might be fun on here to do the same thing. Anyone here want to share any fun experiences from their days of playing and if youre comfortable with it feel free to post pics from that time as well if I figure out how to scan from my scrapbook id be more than happy to share some.

My first memory was when I was a sophomore I was playing on the scout team defense and I got caught by a pulling lineman on a trap block and got hit so hard it wasnt even funny (just like what happened in rudy) when I got up my coach who knew how big of an irish fan I was said "Ok now Rudy, dont just stand there next time confused because I dont want to see youre football dreams end as a sophomore" The nickname stuck with me as I got Rudy chants from the sidelines when I went into games from then on and it influenced my user name on a messege board :)

My other memory is my senior year I got to play a good amount against a conference opponent of ours and I got a tackle for a loss and a sack on 1st and 2nd downs and I could hear my teammates and the fans that came to see us (it was an away game) cheering for me. When they punted I blocked the punt and recovered the ball on their 25 yard line which set up a touchdown for us. The erruption from our fans and sidelines over something I did made me pretty emotional (im getting misty eyed now just thinking about it) because they werent errupting because we were winning I could tell they were errupting because they were happy to see me do something good during a game. I never was the best player but I stuck it out for 4 years because I loved the game of football and it was very nice to see that so many people were happy I was able to do something good and memorable.

Sorry for the rambling but anyone else have any fun or special memories to share?

...ok mine are from college...same thing though.

I remember my first day of full pads in camp...coach set up oklahoma...three bags, two running lanes..me on one side, dback on the other side...I guess I must have been scared because I caught the ball, put some little weak move on, and then went all earl campbell on him...helmet to helmet...his chin strap wasn't tight enough I guess...helmet slid down and he broke his nose...blood everywhere...My receiver buddies errupted as I ran him over...Dbacks coach was way mad...landed me on special teams right out of the gate.

Game time memory...lined up at flanker...way stoked because they called a pitch pass (half back pass), and the defender was up on me...and he kept looking in the backfield...TOAST, was what I was thinking. I put my hands out like I was going to block, he bit enough to be behind me a step, faked to the post thinking by the time I break back to the corner(flag), I'll have this clown by two full steps...and thats when it all went bad...

whenever I faked, I always tried to sell it by turning my head back to the QB..I happened to see the tail back throw the ball...in that split second I saw it fly off the side of his hand...I never came out of the fake, just kept heading to the post...and tracked that wounded duck down...laying flat out in a dive and spearing it just before the safety caught it...coach said it was the best adjustment to the ball he'd ever seen...I think he exagerated in the moment a little...My roomate was just coming into the stadium and he said the place went from sheer terror to elation and just errupted...

thats it...my memories...

It was the last game of my Senior year. I played WR, CB, and was the back up QB. We were a small school so everyone played both ways and all over the field. We kicked off, I ran down on coverage and made the tackle, the next play they ran a pitch sweep I made my only career tackle for a loss. The very next play they ran a bubble screen to my side and absolutely destroyed the WR, he was out for the game.

I opened up with the first 3 tackles of the game.

On offence that game I caught a TD off a fade, my first and only varsity TD catch. We beat the team we were playing pretty badly our RB and my best friend set a school record in yards and TD carries (6 if I remember right). In the third quarter coach was playing all the seniors before taking us out. He put me in at QB we ended up 3rd and long. I threw a 10 yard curl and my WR broke a tackle and took it for a TD.

So in my last game ever I had my first TD catch, first TD pass, and first tackle for a loss.

That got me thinking. My buddy broke those 2 records in the 1st half and our coach didn't give him the ball at all in the second half. I forgot how bad that team was we played.

I've got lots of great memories, but the funniest one occurred my junior year. I played OT/DE both ways, but also was a G on the PAT/FG teams. One Thursday practice before a game, our coach decided that after running through normal FG team, he'd let the backup kicker, a WR who never touched the field on gamenight (and accidentally wore his jersey backwards the week before), take some reps.

We line up for the first one, and he boots it 2 inches over the head of the LS. We on the line all turn around, and implore him not to kick it there again. He nods. We line up. I'm in my stance, watching the crossbar. Snap. Elephant step inside.

PAIN.

The fella had managed to kick the ball lower, and harder...right into my taint region, clipping my boys...point first. Thursdays were ProPads, so we were wearing shorts, so no tailpad to absorb impact. I fell to the ground, gasping for breath, and everything stayed extremely silent around me, until my OL coach started busting up laughing. Then all heck broke loose and he proclaimed I was, in essence, a magnet for hilarious pain filled anecdotes, as two weeks before in a game I had been kicked in the nuts finishing off a pancake block.

The nickname Magnet stuck with me the rest of my playing career. My buddies and I still recall that day when we talk our HS football days. We won some games, lost some, but the best memories are funny anecdotes like those, just having fun, being kids.

Good thread. Reps on a rainy Wednesday night.
