Has anyone else noticed that the paint is coming off the helmets this year? I never noticed it before. This year there are lots of helmets with big strips of paint peeled off (Look at Zibby's helmet).

The paint crew needs to do a better job of surface prep.

Or maybe Zibby needs to quit being such a badass. Only so much you can do with paint when the crazy mofo is running his hat into anything the moves.

I remember when nbc would consistantly remark about the missing paint from courtney watson' helmet. I can't remember it flaking that like, in years past it just seemed to rub off in streaks and not flak like that. Maybe they are trying something less toxic to save some of the student manager's brain cells and it just doesn't work as well.

I remember the play when it happened. Zippy hit foster on the 3 yard line and a big chunk of paint came flying off. I was like HOLY S#@# .It was a violent collision. Zibby sat there for a couple of seconds. I didnt think he was gonna get up after that one. I remember telling my brother at the time that he is the toughest player i've ever seen at ND. He should be an ultimate fighter. What an athlete man. Is'nt he a golden gloves champ? I know he boxes.

could be the helmets themselves. a lot of the time it seems like its those new helmets that look kinda like hockey helmets that the paint comes off of. maybe the surface of whatever they're made up doesn't hold the paint as well?

Zibby is a golden gloves boxer and from what I hear, he doesn't lose much. I wouldn't want to tangle with him, that's for dang sure.

Helmet paint

Helmet paint

I was a student mgr for two years (Holtz's last season & Davie's first season) and can tell you from experience that there are numberous helmets each game that get pretty tore up. While Zibby's is probably an extreme circumstance, most of the OL, DL, & LB helmets all had chips, dents, opposing teams colors, etc. after each game.

So from someone in the know, I don't think it's different today than it's been in the past, but I'll admit it's been a few years so maybe something has changed (example.-the paint may be less toxic/less durable).
