Heggie and Collinsworth

I think it's easy for people to create favorites out of the likes of Nix and James out of our recent recruiting class. But I can't help but remain a little partial to Heggie and Collinsworth. I recall different people knocking these two at times and for apparent reasons. But I really do think these two guys are gonna tear it up for ND in 4 years.

Collinsworth seems like 2 years away from either catching some amazing deep jump balls or defending and picking off quite a few. Quite a few will knock him since his dad is a football celeb, but I know he's got what it takes. He is certainly deserving of ND, and I think he fits the RKG mentality to a tee. This kid is no James.

Heggie, I think, will mature into a juggernaut. I think this guy is gonna be huge. We just gotta hope he won't be too goofy big. I hope he gets gigantic and tears up TE's and tackles trying seal him off as a DE. I know he has a long ways to go, but I'm certain he will also be a Saturday star in a few years.

I will be pulling for these two. I'll be pulling for all of these guys from our recent recruiting class. I think this class is something to absolutely be proud of. BK will refine all of our young men.

I just can't wait until September!

I agree man. You never know how good some of these guys are going to be. Just like you never know if the big fish are going to pan out. Alot of things change over these four years for these guys.

I played against a kid from Lovington, NM by the name of Brian Urlacher. A few of you may have heard about him. Anyways, graduating from highschool, he was like 6'3" and 160lbs to 170lbs. He went to UNM and played safety.

In highschool, he was certainly their best athlete but he wasn't the best on the field on most Fridays, in my humble opinion. He loved the game and was always learning. At UNM, he matured. I went to NMSU and I recall watching him play safety at UNM and thinking, damn, he grew. He got faster and stronger. His senior year in college, he was a beasty safety.

My point is this: Heggie is gonna mature. He is physically more capable right now then Brian was in highschool, in my opinion, and in most other people's opinions I'll bet. Just because he wasn't highly recruited doesn't mean he won't be DESTROYING people in 4 years.

Great post! I have no doubt that BK knows what he's doing. I can tell all of you that our days of getting the #1 recruiting class are probably done with BK. I can also tell you that I don't mind that one bit. Don't get me wrong, when he starts winning, we will get our fare share of 5 star players...but I think there will be guys each year that he pursues that other teams don't. I don't mind that one bit. Take a look every year at how many 2 and 3 star players are taken in the NFL first round. It's astonishing! Some of the 5 star players coming out of high school will be turned off by the fact that Kelly works his players really hard in practice. I don't want those guys anyways. Give me an entire team of Kyle McCarthy's and Pat Kuntz's.

As far as Collinsworth and Heggie, I like em if Coach likes em.

Boomer-- "Well no suprise here fellas, the most doinating player in college football is now the top pick in the NFL draft"

Kiper-- "Yeah after snapping the ankles of three SC Defenders simply by blocking them in last year's 56-0 demolishing of SC prior to Notre Dame's 2nd straight National Title win... this kid's got everything going for him."

Most ND fans have him in at a DE slot. I noted on NSD that Kelly said he could be an OL. I think that slid by most people due to need.

yeah, honestly he could do a lot of different things with him and his track record with players like this s pretty good... we'll see...

I like Lou Holtz’s analogy of star rankings and taking 2 and 3 star players. “Sure, you’ll find a diamond in the rough every now and then, but you won’t make a living on it”! I think it’s quite evident that top recruits equal top teams.

ACamp-I'm with you man, some people will laugh at these posts and tell us we are dreaming but those dreams keep you going and feed this program. This coach has me very relaxed about his ability to WIN FOOTBALL GAMES. HEGGIE would be one hellova story. Its what this is all about.

Haven't seen Heggie bear, but loved watching Austin play. Dude is a gamer, went to where the coach wanted him, changed position each of his last 3 years. He excelled ath them all.

He was the best player on a team ranked in the top 3 nationally last year, a perennial top 10 US team each year. I think they were undefeated the last 2 seasons, while playing UP 2 levels of play.

Never mind he played the last few games with broken fingers. I guess people just need to see him to get it, and eventually they will. Not an all american, but the glue that makes a team stick, which is more important.
