Stoops, kelly, meyer....you ppl make me laugh so hard

NO COACH WANTS TO COME TO ND.......guaranteed, none of those coaches will ever coach at ND.

you are going to get someone who has never had a shot at a big time program. the coach is going to learn on the job, will be 'no-named' and ND is going to circle the drain for years.

Stoops? that is freakin hilarious....delusional ppl

Why do you think that?

Need I remind you that Meyer was at Utah before he was hired at Florida. My choices in order would probably be Brian Kelly and then Gary Peterson.

Do you mean Gary Patterson or Chris Peterson? You have it spelt like it could go either way.

Urban built the UTah program (he didn't inherit it), he coached under Lou, and he also did right by Bowling Green. Not sure what Utah's current credentials might be. The same situation applies to Patterson but I'll take him over CW.

Because he thinks Charlie is the answer and God's gift to football.

Can he not have an opinion? You've certainly been given more than enough space to throw around yours. I'd expect you to do the same without snide comments. Gracias.

Urban didn't build Utah, He was only there 2 years. He was only at Bowling Green for 2 years also.

Would someone with some sort of idea as to how these things go mind explaining a few things for me (maybe others will find this useful as well)?

What is the typical protocol for someone in Jack S's position to do in this case? Let's say that he has not completely decided yet on Charlie's future. I'm sure that he has coaches in mind, but how is it that he can gauge actual interest in the position?
Would he ever have contact (obviously secretly) with any of the men on his short list? I know that would look bad if caught, but maybe it is common practice. This might be a pretty simplistic question, but I thought someone on this forum might have good insight as to how they think he is handling it - he sure isn't helping us out at all by keeping quiet! :)

This situation can be handled numerous ways. If you respect the coach you give him the option to resign; if not you fire him. College football rarely sees inseason firings. If the team is going to fire their coach prior to their bowl they usually do it the day after the end of the season so as to allow the team to move on and for a new coach to find recruits. If a coach is not fired within the first week after the regular season it usually means they are safe. It's too difficult and too much face/time is lost to fire a coach in January and send a new coach out trying to hold on to recruits prepping to sign letters of commitment. You want the new coach to have time to ingratiate himself to the potential recruits.

So if Charlie's going to go he'll be gone by Wednesday December 2.

Thanks a lot! But my question is more on the lines, is Jack S. actively contacting prospective coaches at this point or not? I know no one knows for sure, but if you had to guess...

He may be having alumni who have relationships with different coaches calling to inquire. The conversation can take on a "just wondering how you were, hey what do you think about Notre Dame?" tone. They could also be calling the coaches' agents/attorneys to inquire. They may be reviewing buy out clauses in the coaches contracts as, I believe, coaches at public institutions are considered government employees and, therefore, their contracts a matter of public record.

Direct contact between candidates and the Administration/AD may or may not be ongoing. I'm certain that other ADs are not being contacted as that type of information without fail leaks out.

There are probably a lot of things going on behind the scenes.

Source: I have an uncle who has been coaching D1 for 25+ years and spent a few years a scout for the Patriots.

I never said he couldn't have his opinion. Its been widely accepted that he feels that its the players fault and not the coaches.

Its a dicey game really. JS says evalutions after the season, but I think it behooves him, IF he is going to fire Charlie, to get on that horse right now. The sad part is having to do it on a hush hush basis otherwise people like Herbstreit might ruin a deal, like the Miles/Michigan deal. I love Herstreit, but calling out Miles the morning of the SEC championship game was a bad idea.

It all comes down to a prearranged delicate dance of the powers that be. Much like in nature you need to dance and fluff your feathers in order to find the right mate. But don't go overboard.
