I've heard Shannahan and Gruden's name on NFL pregame shows. Dungy's name crossed my mind about the same time his name was first brought up here (time of posting) which was around the time he was being interviewed in the Colts / Patriots post game.

I'm still a Gary Patterson guy - Pro-style, Spread, Option mix with great D!

Gruden is Out

Gruden is Out

Mike and Mike in the Morning show said Gruden extended his ESPN contract.

Good, I like Chucky, but if we get rid of Charlie, he wasn't at the top of my wish list.

From my perspective, I enjoy the humor from all the unique comments Irish Envy offers about Charlie’s job status. But no matter if he is fired or if he is retained, the sun still will rise tomorrow and I, like most on here, will still be a ND fan.

Word Recon, no matter what happens I will be watching next year, we all just want the program to excel, we just have differing opinions on how they can do that.

Brian Kelly-- The man for the job!

How about somebody start one of those fancy voting threads for "Vote for your new coach"

Here is a list:

- Bill Cowher
- Shanahan
- Brian Kelly
- Peterson
- Urban Meyer
- Bob Stoopes
- TCU coach
- Jim Harbaugh (my personal favorite)
- Oregon St. coach
- Dark Horse (Charlie Weis)

It sounds like a good choice but begore PEterson Hawkins made that program and set it up for Peterson to keep it rolling. Look at how HAwkins is doing at Colorado? This is what scares me about the Utah coach, Bronco, the TCU coach and Kelly. They don't have the exposure, grind and type of opponents that ND has on a weekly basis. One of the hardest things at ND I think is the opponent getting sky high for ND. This is tough to face week in and week out.

I have been a Weis supporter on this site, especially recently. However, if he is fired, the only guy I would get excited about is Bob Stoops from Oklahoma. BCS caliber winning coach, not from a weak conference with big wins over extremely inferior opponents. His defenses are good each year and his offenses don't slack because of that.

As for the sun coming out tomorrow.... after Saturday night... I woke up Sunday and looked out the window to check and make sure. Here in Michiana it did. Then again.... I heard the team got back to town late.

Ouch, yea as much offense as we have ready and waiting, If we got some good defensive players in here, Charlie would win...oh and by the way, some players to execute...ouch

If our next coach wins only 67.5% of his games, would you still be a Patterson guy? That's about 8 wins a year -- nine on a good year. I think we'd be clammoring to get rid of a guy who had a 83-27 record. He's having a great year this year but ...

Maybe I misunderstood you, but are you saying that 83-27 is a 67.5 winning percentage? Also, Patterson is not a flash-in-the-pan type coach, his teams have had 10+ wins for six out of the last eight years. I know the MWC isn't the toughest conference in the world, but that is still pretty darn impressive. Also, he has had high-profile wins, such as the bowl games and beating a #5 OU on the road to begin the season in 2005. Also, he is a seemingly good guy with plenty of energy and his own charity.

I know that record is far from the only thing that should factor into a decision for a coach, but I do think that we should get the facts straight.

I believe the major concerns with Patterson are: 1) Will he be able to recruit at a higher level? 2) Will he be able to make the rigors of a Notre Dame schedule? (No matter what people say, our schedule is still more difficult the majority of seasons than TCU.) 3) Will he have the sway to bring in a top-tier offensive coordinator to ND? (His specialty is defense - not saying he doesn't have adequate offensive knowledge, but that is his specialty)

Bob Stoops

Bob Stoops

At this poit in time we need a winning coach, but we also need someone who has seen the strength in schedule that we have as well as the ability to recruit at an elite level. A few rumors are running around that Bob Stoops may be interested in Notre Dame. If we have any chance of getting Big Game Bob, there is no way we can pass on the chance

Please we have a coach with a 35-25 record, and half the guys on this board are still defending him.

Patterson is doing a great job at TCU, hes built a contender. 6 ten win seasons, 6 top 25 finishes in 9 years.

And just for the Record they finished in the top 10 last year too.

Need I remind you that Meyer was at Utah before he was hired at Florida. My choices in order would probably be Brian Kelly and then Gary Peterson.

1. Valid question 2. Also valid, but I do like that TCU does normally play a decent schedule out of conference (2005 Beat Oklahoma). This year they have road wins @ Clemson #19, @ Virginia, and blowout wins @ BYU #22, and Utah #16. 3. Patterson is fine on Offense yes TCU's D is great, but their Offense is just as good, by the numbers better then us (467.6 yards per, 39.2 points per, and 12.9 points allowed).

Stoops, kelly, meyer....you ppl make me laugh so hard

NO COACH WANTS TO COME TO ND.......guaranteed, none of those coaches will ever coach at ND.

you are going to get someone who has never had a shot at a big time program. the coach is going to learn on the job, will be 'no-named' and ND is going to circle the drain for years.

Stoops? that is freakin hilarious....delusional ppl

I think with the roster we have, and the money ND can put out, it may be different this time.
