Well, Vince Lombardi, who knew something about football, said the team that blocks the best and tackles the best wins. Simplistic? Yes. Obvious? Yes. The exact OPPOSITE of the Irish? Yes. We just need to block and tackle, and we can win.

Right after we stop sucking that is.

The kid looks to be something special...I would hope Charlie would get him onto the field anyway he can. A series here or there would be nice to see how he handles himself.

Yeah he seems to be at least one player that is working hard. Maybe that will help him through this "training camp" week. Would love to see him get more playing time.

Big ups to the guy for playing hard and coming up with some real big catches. Looks like a game breaker out there and a real bright spot for ND.

It would be nice if he sees the field more often. He looks like a gamebreaker

He reminded me of Derrick Mayes today. Great hands for someone who hasn't played much receiver.

I'd like to see Armando Allen given some reps in the slot, or out wide even. If he has any hands at all, he could really stretch the field for the Irish. Based on yesterday's game (the first time that the offensive line has protected the QB long enough to really make any observations about the passing game), I would say that we have two good possession type receivers, in Kamara and Parris, and one big play threat, in Tate. Can you imagine adding a true speed guy to that mix? Who are you going to double? Who are you going to have to leave just uncovered, because you don't have enough DBs to go around when the TE is included as a receiver? You're going to have to drop your LBs into coverage or get killed. That will help this absolutely anemic running game, hopefully.

From BGS:

In the postgame, Charlie commented on Tate's involvement in the offense against Purdue. While fellow freshman Duval Kamara (6-68, 1 TD) was a rehearsed part of the game plan, using Tate was more of an improvisation:

I'll be perfectly honest with you, a couple of those were 'draw 'em up in the dirt plays'. Golden had no idea, and I said, "Get him over here." I told him, run a Go, we're throwing it to you. Real good coaching on my part. And you want to know something? It gave us some momentum. Maybe I should just scrap the playbook and just draw 'em up all in the dirt.

Awesome. :rockwoot:

Tate is going to be a huge playmaker for the Irish. I wouldn't be suprised to see his playing time increase more and more as the year goes on. Was he on kickoff sat or did they just kick away from him the whole game?

I hope they just find ways to get him and Allen the ball in space. The more they get the ball the bigger the chance of breaking the game open.

Just goes to show what good recruiting does. It also goes to show what happens when you put a player in the game and see what he can really do. Rather than just going off practice. Because in practice you go up against the same guys day in and day out. Where on game days, you go up against guys you havent played against and they don't know how you play. Its that simple.

Dude this kid is just plain nasty! I think he has more than earned himself a much much bigger role in this Irish offense.

Hahaha callllllm TIrish. He looks fantastic and it would be great to see him get more touches. Like most of the situations the right players are being phased in and the wrong ones phased out. Golden certainly looks the part of the former, not the latter.

Just out of curiosity, what stuff did you guys do to work on his speed? I'd like to work on mine a bit, and he certainly is giving you some serious credibilty out there burning people like a zippo (hmmm wonder if that could work into a nickname...).

We never had to work on Golden's speed. He is just naturally fast. He has a good work ethic, stays out of trouble, and does the right things. He is a TREMENDOUS athlete. Wait until you see him play Baseball:)

Everyone knows this kid can fly and has great hands...I will be honest, when Golden caught that TD, I had to change shorts....But can he go over the middle and not get killed is my question..Running Routes will come with more time, but great to see on the go route
