Gilbert Arenas meets with law over guns, apologizes - ESPN

In his statement, Arenas confirmed that the guns were brought out at the Dec. 21 practice.

"As I have said before, I had kept the four unloaded handguns in my house in Virginia, but then moved them over to my locker at the Verizon Center to keep them away from my young kids," the statement read. "I brought them without any ammunition into the District of Columbia, mistakenly believing that the recent change in the DC gun laws allowed a person to store unloaded guns in the District. On Monday, December 21st, I took the unloaded guns out in a misguided effort to play a joke on a teammate. Contrary to some press accounts, I never threatened or assaulted anyone with the guns and never pointed them at anyone. Joke or not, I now recognize that what I did was a mistake and was wrong. I should not have brought the guns to DC in the first place, and I now realize that there's no such thing as joking around when it comes to guns -- even if unloaded."

What should happen to Agent Zero? How many people bring a gun into work and still have a job? This statement is nothing more than an excuse to minimize any damage. The legal side will work its course once all of the facts are gathered. The NBA has to put the hammer down. It is setting a precedent and fighting a stereotype. This story just boggles my mind.

... How many people bring a gun into work and still have a job? ...

You'd be suprised. I worked for a Houston based company once upon a time. It wasn't located in the best of neigborhoods. One day a homeless guy walked into the back door of the sales department and asked for a glass of water. One of the regional managers thinking he was being funny sent the guy down the hall to the reception area. The receptionist sees this unwashed guy with torn clothes and wearing one shoe standing in front of her and screams into the P.A. system. "There's a derelict in the front office!" People responded from all directions. Out of approximately 100 people in the combined office and manufacturing facility more than 2 dozen came running to her aid. Of those 15 or 16 had guns drawn. Most of the gun toters were women.

I learned to shoot when I was four. I got a single shot rifle for Christmas when I was 5. So I'm no stranger to guns but I was stunned by that response. So was the company president. Later that day he spoke to every employee on the premises one at a time. Turned out over 1/3 of the staff had handguns in their purses, desk, or locker. The next day a notice was posted that guns were to be left locked in your car in the fenced in employee parking lot. There was much grumbling and I suspected many purses were still "packed".

All that money that he makes and he cant afford a gun safe? Just another punk thug celebrity who thinks he can do whatever he wants. Kinda like Plaxico. Too bad Arenas didnt shot himself, that would have been awesome. I hope nothing but the worst for this IDIOT!

What I don't get is the joke reference. What sane person jokes with a deadly weapon, loaded or not? What kind of joke includes a gun anyway?

This made me lol..

“The NBA needs to stand up and send a strong message by dealing with this situation,” Sharpton told the Daily News. He also chided black leadership groups for not speaking out about the “culture of violence being perpetuated in professional sports.” Sharpton cited former Giant Plaxico Burress as an example of professional athletes run amok.

“This all happened in the Verizon Center?” Sharpton said. “This is the same place where the Obamas watched a Wizards game (on Feb. 27, 2009). You telling me that he had guns in the locker room when Obama went to the game?”

If your black & Al Sharpton speaks out against you... you f**ked up.

is a dumbass, why would you bring a gun into the locker room, KEEP IT IN YOUR CAR !! I heard it was for protection, but does he need to be protected from walking to his car to the locker room ? There was no need to take the gun there........

Washington Wizards' Gilbert Arenas suspended indefinitely - ESPN

Gilbert Arenas was suspended without pay Wednesday by NBA commissioner David Stern, who determined the player's behavior made him "not currently fit to take the court."

A day after the Washington Wizards guard was photographed before a game in Philadelphia pointing his index fingers, as if they were guns, at his teammates, Stern warned the former All-Star that his conduct will "ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse."

and the photo....

Washington Post: Crittenton loaded, cocked gun in altercation with Arenas - Sports Pros(e)

<ADDRESS class="vcard author">Kyle Koster</ADDRESS>on <ABBR class=published title=2010-01-06T21:42:02-06:00>January 6,</ABBR>

Mere hours after NBA commissioner David Stern suspended Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas indefinitely without pay, the Washington Post reports this alarming new detail about the altercation between the star and Javaris Crittenton.

According to two first-hand accounts of the confrontation, Crittenton responded to Arenas's action -- which included laying the four unloaded weapons in Crittenton's cubicle with a note that read, "Pick One" -- by brandishing his own firearm, loading a clip of ammunition into the gun and cocking the weapon.
Two of the five people in the room that morning, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Arenas had originally not disclosed Crittenton's action to protect the little-used guard from prosecution and had told Crittenton he would assume full responsibility for the actions of both players that day.
The Post reports that Crittenton denied these accounts via text message and his agent declined to comment.

If this is indeed the correct chain of events, shouldn't Crittenton be subjected to any even more severe punishment than Arenas?

Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Did you hear about the changes that are going to be made with the Wizards?

Word is they are going to re-instate Arenas and change their name... back to the Washington Bullets.
