As the holidays approach I find myself with the same problem I have every year. What do I buy my wife for Christmas? Obviously every women is different and not all gifts would work for all our wives (or husbands). I thought we could exchange ideas on what gifts have worked in the past and possibly save some people from giving the worst idea of a gift (treadmills generally are not the best unsolicited gift). Let me know what ideas you guys have big or small.

Some gifts that worked out well the past couple of years have been:

Boots (although I picked the wrong color and she got the one see wanted)
Hand bags
A dressy watch
Jewelry obviously, but over the years it seems to be a little predictable (if any women want to chime in here and tell me jewelry never gets old, I'll listen).
Spa certificate to one she likes

I'll post more as I remember them.

I bought my wife some tattoo work at her insistence. I think clothing and expensive make-up would be good if you know her taste/style. I am kind of lost too so maybe toss these ideas away.

Depending on the age of your children, a pretty cool thing I did was buy my wife one of those charms bracelets that can have charms added to it over time. I bought the original bracelet and a few charms and then the kids have been able to add charms to it on special occasions. It makes it easy for the kids to buy gifts for their mom.

My GF has one of those. It's worked out great.

Maybe I'll have to try it. Our kids are little yet so it gives her a long time to add charms to it.

There has to be someone that has a story about buying something and having the reaction be terrible. Those stories need to be shared to save the rest of us from making the same mistake. Let us learn from you.

Pandora bracelet. Bought my wife one several years ago. She has a lot of charms now, but I usually buy her a charm for Xmas to go along with her other gifts.

Just remember to keep the gift personal and I'm not talking about her own season tickets! lol

My grandpa always said to spend money on experiences rather than material things. Depending on how much you're willing to spend I'd go that route. For the price of a nice watch you can spend a weekend somewhere.

Some less expensive ideas
Does she have a favorite band? If so find out when/if they are playing buy tickets, air fair, and a hotel
Does she have a favorite late night TV show? Take her to see a live taping.
Go to a national park for the weekend.

This isn't my story, but it is my sister-in-law.

Her husband wanted to get her the experience gift as opposed to something material and decided they would take a hot air balloon trip. She is scared to death of heights but didn't want to hurt his feelings so she tried to put on a brave face and go for it. They got about 30 feet off the ground and she started panicking and throwing up all over the place.

This story took a turn for the worse... Fully expected her to get over her fear

Wine of the month club. Just get the delivery timing down so that when you do something to piss her off, it's the day before her booze shows up.

This. It makes gift-giving as easy as "how much do I feel like spending? I'll buy that many charms worth." IMO, it's only legit to have the real Pandora. Not Chamilia or Charmed Memories or whatever the Zales knockoff one is.

We're not big into spending though. I'm the sole income-earner and we share all our finances so there's no real difference in her buying me a gift and me just buying the shit I want in the first place.

Bought my wife the Garmin Forerunner 230. She really enjoys running so it is perfect for her.
