And onto the 15-11 range.
Counting down the Irish: 15-11 | Inside the Irish

also, 25-16 from previous days.
IRISH 2012 Top 25
25. Zeke Motta (S, Sr.)
24. Tommy Rees (QB, Jr.)
23. Andrew Hendrix (QB, Jr.)
22. Davonte Neal (WR, Fr.)
21. TJ Jones (WR, Jr.)
20. Robby Toma (WR, Sr.)
19. Christian Lombard (OL, Jr.)
18. Davaris Daniels (WR, So.)
17. Troy Niklas (TE, So.)
16. Bennett Jackson (CB, Jr.)
15. Ishaq (OLB, So.)
14. EG (QB, So.)
13. C Watt (LG, Sr.)
12. Prince (OLB, Jr.)
11. GAIII (RB, So.)

The third and final quarterback of the rankings slots his way in here, with Everett Golson coming in at No. 14. Golson, who redshirted during his freshman season, impressed during the Blue-Gold game, but also showed difficulties with game management duties and ball security, two very large issues that seem to be sticking points for Brian Kelly and new offensive coordinator Chuck Martin. Still, anybody who doesn’t think Golson is going to find his way into the Irish offensive package is fooling themselves, and even if he isn’t the “starting” quarterback, expect to see a healthy dose of Golson in the Irish game plan.

Thanks, Keith, for all that you do!

Great article, this is the kind of thing I could never do. Good approach. I was excited to hear we picked up a new player with our roster being short, so who is this Lou Aka guy, and what can we expect from him?

If you haven't heard of him, you will. Perhaps not as intimately as the Navy QB will in a few weeks, but you will. Just like Koyack, he has potential.

Well done Keith. I am not sure I am as shocked by Tuitt's appearance as some. When I saw him catching running backs from behind, and eating them alive in his senior film, maybe his third year of playing, I knew he would be something. I just wonder how much better he will be with influences like Manti and KLM on him, (only). In fact, that is what I will look for in camp, and would certainly like to hear about. Increased cohesion.

Gotta love Diaco.

When asked about the physical characteristics Diaco is looking for — in both linebackers, and defenders in general — he was remarkably candid.

“We really don’t like small players, in general,” Diaco told Irish Illustrated. “We believe that if we have a big defense, we’re going to have a chance to have a good defense. How good? We don’t know. But when we come off the bus, if we’re as big or bigger than our opponent, we believe we’ll have a good chance to have a good defense.”

How big? Well, here’s a quick breakdown of the Irish’s starting front seven’s collective weight against some pretty elite company:

Notre Dame: 1920 pounds
Alabama: 1907 pounds
Michigan State: 1869 pounds
USC: 1800 pounds
Oklahoma: 1792 pounds

That's an incredible stat. Especially since we run the 3-4. Too lazy to look and I'm sure you know, but how many of those other 4 run the 4-3?

Brilliant article.

But I am not sure that your assumption that a four man front is always heavier holds weight. 4-3 ends and outside linebackers can both be smaller and lighter than their 3-4 counterparts. I could see it a wash, or going either way.

You may be right, and with Diaco's statement today about just wanting big defenders, our OLB may be bigger than some DL. But who knows. Either way, we are big and scary up front. Let's keep that shoe-lace-less wonder in the backfield.

I think there is ample evidence that the teeth of our defense are a werewolves.

That awesome to see. Remember during the Weis years when the pundits were saying ND just couldn't get big-strong-fast recruits to come to the school? Theres another misconception that Kelly has crossed of the excuse list along with the argument that ND can't get players with speed.

Barring any catastrophic or bizarre injuries (I knocked on wood) our defense could be very good. If we can field atleast a top 35 offense (which we saw glimpses of last season) then we will be the talk of the town this fall.

Here's to Everett Golson!

We were better than 35 last year.

I believe we were top 30 overall. Our defense and OL were awfully good last year. Allowed 20 ppg, which was 24th in the country.

I'm guessing turnover margin is not entered into the equation because there is absolutely no way we'd be ranked in the top 30. If we can field a top 35 offense and have 1/2 the turnovers, we'll be very good. btw, I think both are very probable

Um... we turned the ball over... on offense. That has nothing to do with our defense. I know turnovers recovered factors into a turnover margin, but our defense was still a top 30 squad last year.

@darrenrovell: Sign of the Times: Adidas is only making one Notre Dame jersey this year: #5 for linebacker Manti Te’o.

And Golson! I don't know where he got this though, they are also selling Wood and Eifert in the bookstore.

Brian Kelly's post-practice presser scheduled for one hour from now. Might be worth checking back on that one. Could be interesting.

Thanks for posting that content packed article. That Arnold guy is a pretty damn good writer and reporter.
