Damn i think that is right on the money. I could not agree more! I mean down three tds and we come back what more other than a win do we want.
Fire Charlie Huh?? Can't believe people are still saying this shit. Go Charlie and Go Irish to hell with all the haters. This is a competitive football team. We just took #6 USC to the freaking wire and people are still complaining. Time clock management lost the game for us in the end right??? Bullshit. Poor defensive play and missed tackles by Harrison Smith cost us the freaking game.

Give me some freaking Zeke Motta

Those who want Weis gone aren't going to change their minds. I think the Irish could go 10-2 this year, win a BCS bowl, win the NC next and still some would want him gone. I don't know what that's about. Some people just want constant coaching changes.

The fact is, the program was in sad shape. Could Urban Meyer have come in and had better results than CW? Eh, maybe. But maybe not. The recruits are here, the team looks good (with some exceptions on D). Why fire Weis now, lose a bunch of talent via transfers and early grads, and future talent by losing a bunch of recruits who are scared of a coaching change?

The program is clearly on the upswing. I don't see how anyone could deny that. A coach shouldn't be fired on the upswing. If you wanted to fire him, I could see it after the 3-9 year. I wouldn't have agreed with it, but I could see it. Now? The program is getting better. Why take a step back with another coaching change?

If things become stagnant over the next season or two, or god forbid get worse, consider it. But now really doesn't make sense.

Tell me what has changed?

Nothing is different from the days of yesteryear other than the increased involvement of money for programs.

Edit: Referring to running QB's that has always been apart of college football for years, back when the single wing was sexy and the triple option was virtually unstoppable.

Yet, not as dominant as today. "Tebow"! Yeah I'm sorry your right I'm wrong lets fire the coach and then magically we will be outstanding. Have you ever coached college? No. Then DONE!!!!

What makes you so sure of this? I just want to know.

It seems a lot of fans believe things will get better because they dont want to believe that what they are seeing now is possibly the best it could be.

Have you seen this team that last two seasons? You can actually see the growth in this football team from 07 to now. What makes you think this won't continue? We have one of the best offenses in the country with or without Floyd, that side of the ball is going to keep us in a lot of games. We have players on O that are actually taking ownership of the wins and losses and being leaders, haven't seen that in awhile. On defense we are undermanned in key spots but if you look at the young players we do have you can see game to game improvement. Imagine this team when they get a somewhat respectable defense. The future is bright for this team, it's just sad that people look at the here and now and don't see what looks like a very bright future.

One thing people might want to think about...........

ND has two brand new line coaches. Both the offensive and defensive line coaches are in their first years. So far, Verducci has done outstanding work with the Offensive Line. They sure didn't look good, for most of today, but this is basically the same O Line as last year. And, last year they were horrendous. Despite the improvement, it's obvious that the lines are not playing at a level that is competitive with the best teams in the country. But it's their first year under their new coaches. I honestly think that they will continue to improve. Maybe they will be ready to kick ass and take names with the best of them, as early as next year.

The problem is, this game was the best you're going to get out of Charlie. You'll get a nice team that plays hard, but ultimately, can't win against the big boys. I give Charlie all the credit in the world for bringing the program back from the beating it took under Willingham. It was an unbelievable task that only a handful of guys could have done. But Charlie is like our Ron Zook - he can recruit you some players, and make you look good once or twice a decade, but thats about all you can expect. We now need to thank him for his efforts, and find the guy that CAN make this a nationally relevant program each and every year, the way it should be.

Next year is the first year where it is "his" team. The 5th year seniors in this class are from Willingham's last class/the one that Weis through together at the last second. Weis got a late start recruiting with our current senior class and so many of those guys ended up transferring early. This is just me, but I really won't consider this fully "his" team until next year or 2011.

If it aint Meyer, screw it. I dont want to take a chance on anyone else. Maybe Richt, i always liked his style too. But if we have to take chances with no name coaches, then i would like CW to stay. Evaluate the interests of the big guns out there, if there is none, charlie is still our best shot at a NC.

But when is that respectable defense coming? We're not winning the recruiting battles on the defensive side of the ball. Our 1 five star recruit has us even now with his home town team. You guys want might to say that rivals.com doesn't know shit but go and check out what guys like Taylor Mays, Chris Gallipo and Everson griffin were rated coming out of High School. Start digging into those 5 star recruits and if your not getting them then find someone who can.

Yes i know. We have had this arguement before. I like charlie and his attitude, but he has NOT won big games. Today wasnt the deciding factor for me, but he does have to win some legit big games to keep me on the bandwagon. Beat a team that finishes top 25. Pitt, Stanford, and Washington have chances at finishing top25 IMO. If we beat them and win a decent bowl, preferably BCS, im still all in.

I like Meyer, he would definately be my first choice. You dont like him, dont want him. We will leave it at that for now. Right now we have a coach, we will just see what he does with the rest of the season. Maybe we win out, i sure as hell hope so. Bring in some big name recruits again. We will see at near the end of the season i guess.

Errrr you didn't just bring up Willingham in a personnel argument, did you? Charlie has shown that he plays the best players, regardless of seniority. So then I guess the question is, can we expect this every year since most of the starters are not Willinghams?

Well ideally you dont want to play as many underclassmen as Weis was forced to play his first couple years, so ya I'm bringing up the Willingham still.

I don't believe you mean to be inflammatory or insulting but I think you would get more level-headed responses if you didn't come off so blatantly patronising. This team is as much yours as it is the younger fans, or the newer fans. It doesn't seem like this was your intention, but I'm suggesting that you take care not to unintentionally say something that could be so construed.

That's a double negative.

Sorry JPham.

Patience folks. Lil pups. Big pups. This year lil dogs. They learning how to bite.

This one gives me the ass giggles.....Other than NT/DT, where have we not brought in a top notch, high quality recruit???? Were you not amused with Manti? How about Harrison which was considered a coup at the time.....Walls, McNeil, Brian Smith, Ian Williams,
McCarthy, on and on and on....

Feel free to talk out of your f-ing ass....but get your fucking facts straight before you decide to chime in next time.

I wonder what all the Mack Brown haters are saying now. I remember he couldnt win the big one, he could beat Oklahoma afetr he lost his first 5 mettings with them.

We got beat by a better team and it came down to the last second. The same team that lost 38-0 less then a year ago. He did not do a thing wrong in this game. I have seen this team get better each year and grow to show moreheart than any team in the country.

On top of that he has done it the right way, the Notre Dame way.

On the money comment.

Agreed.

I also find it twisted that people want Weis' fired after a close loss to USC but were praising Weis after close/last second wins against mediocre programs like Purdue, MSU, and Washington.

Going down to the wire, with a very talented USC team, full of blue-chip 5 star-studs--2 deep at almost every position--means a lot more for this program's future than squeeking out victories against the likes of Purdue, MSU, and Washington, imo.

Err I don't seem to recall too many people praising Weis for those close victories. Jimmy maybe.. I gave Charlie props for the FGs he kicked instead of going for it in the Washington game..

You are right, hell, Weis could win a NC and there would still be people who would find something to bitch about. Those who want him gone won't be satisfied until he's gone. I thought this team made huge strides yesterday as they have all year long. I'm not ever satisfied with a loss, but they didn't quit, they fought till the end and had a chance to win or go for a tie, what more could you ask for?

Win, lose, or draw - I give CW another year - he put together monster offense - unstoppable with Floyd. I pray he gets JC back next year.

If he doesn't deliver next year I'll entertain this crap - he has a year to find a defense.

Are you REALLY comparing Notre Dame to Texas? Wow, things HAVE changed, I guess...
Standards must be lower for the younger generation. To those of us that have been here, ND stands alone, or should, with a few proud programs close by. Texas is another rung down. Its almost scary to me seeing what is acceptable these days.

No, he wasn't. He was commenting on whiney fans. He used Mack Brown as an example.
