So i wake up this morning, turn on the tube, and start watching ESPN game day. main topic was of course Oregon vs Oregon State and SC vs Auburn. After they shoot the sh*t for awhile talk shifts to what ifs.

Per Craig James and ol Kirk Herbie even if Auburn loses today they are in the Championship due to thier "body of work" thru out the season (1993 Notre Dame anybody??)

An Oregon loss and bye bye ducks, hello Wisconsin, Stanford, and then TCU. Wisconsin well they a bad *** team but still they loss to Michigan State earlier in the season.
WTF man i thought Oregon beat Stanford earlier in the year.

WTF #2 no TCU...Are they not one of 3 major college football teams which are still undefeated.

ESPN and the BCS are in cahoots man. This crap pisses me off!!

They better not F**k with us when we are in the hunt......

They are pretty pathetic, earlier in the week I seen a segment where they showed what would happen if the top 2 teams lost and who would take who's spot. Then today its Oregon and Auburn no matter what.

I wish their was a sports station that challenged ESPN, so then real reporting would have to happen. Otherwise ESPN can say whatever and all viewers will see it as the truth.

I know their are Fox Sports stations and CBS, but they aren't on the level of ESPN to really be competition.

I've often thought the only way to have a new station would be for Sports Illustrated to jump into the mix by aligning with Fox sports - the brand name recognition with the already established stations might provide enough leverage to keep the station afloat in the early years. But with CNN's partnership with SI, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

There have been countless "I hate ESPN" threads scattered throughout IE.

It's not a news network. They latch onto every rumor like a bird latching on to prey. They'll interview the food stand worker at Michigan Stadium who says he heard it from a reliable source that Rich Rodriguez is going to get fired and then print it as fact.

They suck.

I don't really watch Gameday or Sports Center much anymore. I've had enough of their bs and lack of anything intelligent to say.

They have shifted from up and coming, credible journalism to mainstream rumor central. I am not a fan how they look for former players to give opinions rather than educated journalists to give thoughtful analysis.

Is ESPN really that bad? Really?

I feel like people take this stuff way too seriously...it's just sports.

They're not perfect, but it's all about entertainment, not objective "journalism." I don't really understand why people get so upset about ESPN.

And per the issue about Auburn making the title game even if they lose, just because James and Herbie mentioned that...why does that get your panties all in a bunch about ESPN?

Doesn't it have more to do with the system we have? I'm pretty sure those two commentators aren't the only ones who think Auburn should be in if they lose to SC, and I'm pretty sure there are plenty of CFB commentators at ESPN that think it's a joke if Auburn got in under those circumstances.

I almost want Auburn to lose and still get in the title game just so people turn on the BCS even more and we inch closer to a playoff.

Don't forget this has happened more than once already. How about Oklahoma beating only two ranked teams during the regular season, losing to K-State by 28 in the Big 12 Title game and STILL going to the title game.

I completely agree with this. What does this thread say about a person who watches something, realizes it's BS and gets angry over it...yet keeps watching?

Yeah, I personally hate how ESPN was able to corner the sports news market. They got in before athletes and franchises were worth as much as they are today and have expanded to 4 networks + online streaming feeds of whatever they can get their hands on.

It also amazed me how they branched into magazines so easily but SI never came after their television market? Would it be that hard for SI to launch a channel with CBS or Fox or NBC? Sadly, we have reached the point of no return it seems, and I do not feel there will ever be a true competitor to ESPN unless Comcast tries to revamp Versus.

I really don't think the sec is all that great this year. They all play easy non-confrence schedules. You just can't say they are the top conference when they don't play anyone but other sec teams.

If and when we are in the hunt ESPN wont be able to mess with us, even though they only get 4 or 5 of our games a year, if we are undefeated or highly ranked there is still a lot of money to be had, they are going to give more coverage to teams who are on their networks. Why did GameDay go to see Oregon demolish Oregon St when they could have gone to the SEC championship game? Because the SEC is on CBS. The days of Gameday going to the best game of the week (ex. ND vs USC 05) are over, now they are going to the best game ON ESPN

SI tried to have a separate channel in conjunction with CNN called CNN/SI (clever, huh). They were linked because they are all owned by Time Warner. It was started in 1996 and lasted about 6 or 7 years. It was pretty bad and had small viewership. They didn't really have much in the way of sports offerings. They also had trouble getting clearance on cable before there were 500 to chose from.

Rocket, you are right my friend. College football needs a playoff so this BS will end. I really do feel for the TCU'S and Boise State's of college football. No matter what u do "the powers that be" will keep u out of the National Championship Game.
