Where is this coming from? There was no battle or even a perception of a battle. After preseason camp CW stated in a press conference that Hord was clearly the #3 WR. "Now we're looking for #4". CW noted that the difference between #2 and #3 was less than the difference between #3 and #4. Nobody surfaced for awhile.

If Hord had been healthy the latter three guys would have had a tough time finding the field except on Special Teams.

That quote you have is about Grimes. Hord got hurt before preseason camp began. He got hurt during summer conditioning at the beginning of July before there really was much of a depth chart. I specifically remember the quote you're talking about, but it was definitely about Grimes after Hord was already out of the picture.

Grimes

Grimes

We will be in trouble if Grimes is our #1 next year.

Thanks for clarifying.

Just hope he can get his speed back up to 100%....it's a tough injury to get back from.

Grimes is not a damn good receiver

Grimes is not a damn good receiver

He has good hands and seems to run good routes, but he benefited from teams focusing on Jeff, Rhema, and Carlson. He doesn't have the size or speed to be a great #1 as you say he is.

Grimes is a good slot receiver...he has good hands but not game breaking speed. We need DJ's speed on the outside to stretch the field.

I think we will have enought talent this year at WR, especially with this guys like Duval Kumara and Greg Little on the team.

I agree. Grimes is not a #1 WR. He is extremely solid, though, and will keep improving and end up being a reliable weapon for whoever the next QB is. But Hord has the chance to be something special if he can put it all together.

Size is overrated! Ever heard of Laveranues Coles, Santana Moss, Hines Ward, Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison, Terry Glenn, Donte' Stallworth, Donald Driver, Steve Smith, or Darrell Jackson? There all 6 feet or under!

Another guy to add to that lack of size list, and a guy who had about average speed....

Steve Largent

Give me a 2 guys that can run a route, get open, and have sure hands.....and you can have 3 Clifford Franklins split wide

Clifford Franklin is findin a new home.... I agree that Grimes is a good receiver, but I don't think he's a #1. I think hes a perfect #2 receiver but not a 1. I think Robbie Paris will play a significant role in next years offense

There is a lot of talent at wr but it's gonna be interesting who takes the bull by the horns and becomes the #1 stud. Can't wait for spring ball articles!

Ya, as soon as the Sugar Bowl is over I will devote my Notre Dame time to looking at next years team and trying to figure out who will be playing and where. It should very interesting.

i hope hord is 100% by spring which would be amazing considering the injury he had but everything i have read during the year seems like he could be back to 100% by then.

spring practice is going to be very interesting with a ton of positions being wide open.

He'll be our speed receiver. Something we didn't have this year to keep defenses honest. Hopefully he comes back and gives us a quality trio with Grimes/West and Parris.

I hope to see Munir Prince develope as a receiver too. Coach Haywood should take a look at how Arkansas uses Felix Jones.

Thats a good idea, early in the year they would do that anyways. Munir would line up as the Running Back but then they would put him in motion as the slot reciever.

Yes, but he never got any meaningful touches. A speed threat is a good decoy, but it can be an even greater factor with oppurtunities.
