ND loses again

Meyer has selected Florida. The same decision that athletes make anymore. Notre Dame's day has passed. They simply are not able to attract the great coaching talent. Due to academic standards it will take a great coach and recruiter and I do not believe we can get one.

They should agree to pay $1M more per year than any coach in college football, but they will never do it, even though there are some alumni who would fund it.

Regardless, Tedford is another case of ND simply not being the top football school any longer as it has had to settle for its 3rd or 4th choice for coach again, just as it has to do with players.

ND now has enough egg on their faces to make an omlette. What a joke.

Florida doesn't have the academic standards or winters, so it makes sense. Pressure and spoiled fan base is exactly the same. Can't say I blame Urban Meyer one bit for taking the Gators.

I'm guessing we don't have a real shot at Tedford. I heard him on a recent interview and he was just thrilled to be in a recruiting hot bed like Southern California. One positive to him staying there is that he competes again USC and may steal some recruits. But we're in hurt mode now. Not getting Meyer really sucks! I say pay the coach that much more to off-set the academic standards.

$1 million a year and Florida offered $2 mil. Negotiating is not the strong suite of this administration either. They want to have their cake and eat it too.

I agree with you. I have never felt so pissed at Irish football right now. The administrations heads are in their asses right now. They wouldnt give any leeway for academic exceptions for Urban, so they f***ed us fans again.

Once again WE ARE THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE NATION!! Well maybe Barry Bonds is getting laughed at even harder, thanks Barry for taking the heat away from us for at least 2 days.

What about Rick Newheisel( however you spell it) the NCAA found him to have done nothing wrong at Washington. He can coach, teach, recruit and most importantly he can WIN!!

I'll probably be proven wrong by the weekend, but for now, this whole rumor has been floated by a "FLA" newspaper, naming two "anonymous" sources. Even the Gators spokesman said nothing has been settled yet (I know, it's good pr to keep a lid on it), so aren't we all just being a little naive to follow this too closely just yet?

I think bring back the Holtzster. He will coach for another 2 or 3 years. Give him an academic waiver or 2 and we will win again.

I guarantee you it has crossed Lou's mind, but I dont think he wants to coach anymore.

As much as I love Holtz, its time to move on from him. We need to find a coach for the long run not a quick fix for 2 or 3 years.

make the right offer and he will come.... but I doubt it will happen.

Is it just me but after Meyer said screw you guys im going to Florida, it seems like nobody really thought beyond Meyer. Everybody thought he was a shoe in.

Holtz is proven and he just needs the right offer to come back for aq short time.

I know its wishful thinking.

We don't want Newheisel. He may be a great coach, but I garentee in less than 3 years we would have NCCA sanctions all over us. BAD IDEA. Currently he is batting 100% in giving the schools he has coached at santions. I live in seattle and he is a piece of s--t trust me.

Neuheisal? Honestly, is that really plausible? There is no way the holiest of holies at ND will hire that guy. Nothing but trouble everywhere he's ever gone.

As for Lou Holtz, I think we need to start living in the present. The Holtz years of the late 80s and early 90s are where we want to be again, yes, but we are going to require someone else to get us back...and someone that is a bit younger. Lou deserves to enjoy the rest of his life and be with his family. Coming back to this mess is the last thing I'd wish on him.

No one is mentioning Charlie Weis of the New England Patriots. He is offensive minded and bleeds Blue and Gold, whatever that is worth these days. He has pro experience as a coordinator and is ready for a head coaching job. Problem is, ND could have to wait as long as the Super Bowl to get him on board. If he built the beast that is Tom BRADY, then perhaps he can mold the man that would be BRADY Quinn.

And if enough candles are lit in the Grotto, maybe Romeo Cronnell will follow him.
