Defensive Coordinator

I have faith in Minter and with CW high standards I know Minter isn't taking the beatings sitting down. Things will get changed, give it some time. Can't have an SEC attacking defense without the SEC speed on the defensive side of the ball. We are now starting to get those kids in so watch out football, HERE COME THE IRISH!!!!

It doesn't have to do with just speed though. Clearly, when corners are playing 15 yards off of a receiver (i.e. USC), then that is about the defensive coordinators scheme.

How did USC beat us? They jammed our receivers and played them aggressive at the line of scrimmage.

How did UCLA hold USC to 7 offensive points? The got in their faice.

A "Bend but don't break" defense may have worked against running offenses in the past. But it isn't working now, and won't work next year.

Our DB's don't have the size/strenth right now to jam players like Jarrett. I also hate the bend but don't break defense and let change happen. We are forgetting I think that this is only the second year, sometimes when a program has been in shambles for so long it takes more than just one or two years to get things to change. Patients is a virtue my friend.

i agree with the scheme being a part of the problem. i also agree with stalking eagle in the point of our corners not being able to jam at the line of scrimmage. (i would however like to see them get the chance) i don't think that they are fundamentally sound enough to do it.

i also think that if any team can jam our recievers it will be a long day. shark and rhema are as physical as my 5 year old daughter. rhema atleast blocks downfield. LSU will do the same thing that SC and UCLA did to them. (make them work hard to get open) I hope CW comes up with a way to get them some room. I'm sure he's on it. I think we will use alot of counters and screens against the fast LSU defense. Hopefully if they work we can get some room for the WR's.

So do you think that Weis has total trust in Minter's control of the defense? If so, why? And if not, why did he get hired in the first place?

I don't think that Weis has total trust with Minter, he's actullay gotten more involved with the defense. As far as his hiring, I think it was more a process of eliminiation. Mangini was his first choice, but Belichek wouldn't let Weis have him, Golden's reply was no, Charlie Strong stayed at Florida, which left Minter as the last man standing.

Maybe if we had a DC that was worth half a shit we would get some of these D studs like Austin, Berksdale, Donald....

I think others have said this somewhat, but I'll come right out and say it: if our recievers jam at the line, then the other teams throws long play touchdowns all day long. Our guys just can't jam well enough/recover to jam effectively, and our safeties don't really help enough up top to cover for any mistakes the CB's make. As our talent level increases and we get our young, fast, and agile players on the field, I expect Minter to be able to jam more effectively, espcecially combined with a good pass rush. But jamming with no recovering ability and no pass rush = omg they got a long pass AGAIN!@#$%@!:onfire:

I just don't think Minter is a good D coordinator.

I agree with the article, for the most part. And it could be entirely about talent, but our defense had some talent on it this year, and teams like UCLA, and GT probably had around the same amount, or less talent, on that side of the ball, and seemed to play not only dramatically better, but more INSPIRED.

When did you see the defense get "NASTY" this year? I never did, not once. That GT game doesn't look that impressive when you look at how inept Reggie Ball can be.

I don't know, i look at the defenses and I think UCLA has a LOT more talent on their D-Line than we do. Those guys have been studs for them, great pressure, good against the run. And their LB's too. We didn't have a single LB playing a starting position they had ever played before this year. Which leaves the secondary, where you could maybe say we have the same level of talent, but i'm not sure i would go there. All of our guys seem solid enough on their own, but I'm not sure we really know stud talent like some other schools do. Good defenses have solid players with some studs thrown in. We have good solid players with some weak links thrown in.

the difference in ucla d and nd d is secondary. they could rush lb because thier secondary was fast enough to stay up with the stud receivers and they could defend them. nd had to drop lb in coverage and give qb time to find receivers.

It's not like you can just say "we are nasty", snap your fingers, and it happens...

Seriously, maybe the kids in the system are just not up to it. It would not be surprising to me if that were the case.

Our most important defensive recruit would be a good newDC. The defensive player recruiting is picking up,but we need a newDC if we want to be NC.

why can't you people give him a break.Let him get his recruits in here and give the guy a chance. Then if doesn't work then get rid of him. I think when he gets his players in here he will do a great job.

Of our 14 recruits listed on Rivals none of them show as being recruited my Minter. With his lacadaisical manor and the hayseed strawhat that he wears, makes me wonder if he isn't another lazyass Ty Willingham type of coach.

i rather have him sitting in south bend working on putting a scheme together for the bowl game than out on the road to tell you the truth.

He got Golden Tate. He's on Harrison Smith and Chris Donald as well.
