Was likely always going back to California. Said in an early interview months before recruiting heated up that he wanted to go back to the west coast for school. Would be interested to see if he takes an official visit, but I'm very pessimistic about our chance of getting him or Odenigbo. I think they're both basically Stanford locks for the reason you mentioned... depth at OLB.

What do you think the chances are that Prince Shembo will be moved inside?

Shembo has the versatility to play inside as well, but he's one of the best natural pass rushing talents on our defense. I don't think he'll get moved inside unless we end up with a lot more quality depth at OLB.

Well, one has to think that the moment DFleming leaves South Bend, the CAT will be locked down by IWilliams for the next 3 years. So that leaves DOG, with Shembo, Spond, Councill and Rabassa all wanting to start.

If one wants the best/most experienced 4 'backers on the field at once, im guessing either Spond or Shembo would have to be moved inside.

----------------Williams---------------Shembo----------Moore-----------Spond-------------------

Now thats some speed!

Williams - Moore - Shembo - Spond

Perkins - Rabasa - Grace - Councell

Great thing is that we can come up with several different combinations, all perfectly plausible and with merit. Our defense looks to be in very good shape in terms of both quality and quantity (depth) going forward.

IMO, it is going to be very unlikely that 2 redshirt freshman beat out two redshirt juniors in Moore(Rabassa) and Spond(Councell).

And Rabassa as an inside 'backer?

Mark it down.

I just hadn't heard anything to date but unlike Atkinson moving to RB and Farley moving to WR, moving Rabassa inside from outside backer wouldnt really be a position change and thus, wouldnt warrent notifying the Domer nation like we saw with the other two.

Just rewatched his tapes. What a motor this guys has, I still think that he is really underrated. If they dont see him as making the size needed at DE and if he doesnt have the speed to go sideline to sideline as an OLB, he certainly has the bulk(6'3" 225lb) to one day become an islb.

I still contend that its not going to be next year though(highly unlikely that he or Councell beat out guys how have been in the system, both weight and scheme, for 2 full years) especially when Moore, Carlo and Spond(thats basically who we are talking about here) are really talented guys.

IMO, last year was an anamoly and we probably(with the exception WR next year, given that we lose Floyd and most likely Goodman) wont see alot of redshirt freshman starting at ND going forward. We just wont have too.

I don't think that will be the depth chart next year. 2 years from now, that is what I was aiming for with that lineup

I am very new here and will try not to let this happen again. But, it is ironic that the Noor Davis thread turned into a debate on linebacker depth since i am of the opinion that it played atleast some part in ND not landing Davis.

Oh, there's zero chance that will happen next year, i agree. I too am talking 2012.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------Ishaq--------------Teo------------Moore--------------Spond-------------------

.....is how I see 2012 playing out. In 2013, it wouldn't surprise me if Shembo is pushed inside to make room for the talented OLB that are coming in this year. Infact, I dont think that ND is even TARGETING an inside backer this cycle so that would make moving Shembo even more likely.

We are splitting hairs here 'cause both of us can easily make the case that any one of 10 guys could start in 2012 and 2013. Its just an embarrashment of riches at the linebacker group for ND.

No, one doesn't. The kid hasn't played a single down of D-IA football. Haven't we learned anything from all of the "promise" of the last few years?

Did you see the Spring Game? He certainly looked to be the real deal there on multiple plays. 6'5 250lb while running a legit 4.59.... my money and mouth is on this guy starting as a true sophmore.

Well, if he played that well in a intra-squad scrimmage, then I'm sure that all of those potential All-Americans that he faces, throughout the year, will surely bow down to his obvious superiority!! Hell, why even try to block him?

Why so contentious? I simply said that its my belief that Ishaq Williams will start at CAT next year.

Ishaq is perfect at CAT because his length will make a quarterback's life incredibly difficult wouldn't you say? Or am I that far off base. Only thing is he seemed a little hesitant and not so instinctual like Lynch/Teo/Shembo at the spring game but hey it was raining and his first game in the glorious Blue and Gold and I hope to see great things from him!

Cat OLB is the hardest position to play in Diaco's defense. The mental aspect was holding him back. Once Ishaq gets settled, look out.
