I know we all support the troops and what they are doing for us today, but I really hope everyone can spend a few minutes today either away from irishenvy to learn about the men and women who gave so much for their country on this day in 1941 or share some thanks and thoughts here.
My dad tells me about that day and what it meant to him even though he was only kid at 8 years old. Sadly, I can identify with him because of 9/11. He points out the only difference between the 2 events is that Americans were able to fight back against their attackers at Pearl Harbor while they were being attacked. The United States took a beating that day, but those brave Americans went down fighting the whole way.
Some could argue that the Allies were only able to defeat the Axis powers once the United States entered the fray. It was the sacrifice of those Americans at Pearl Harbor that got the US involved in WWII and ultimately the victory of good over evil.
I hope we never forget all of the "greatest generation" for the patriotism and courage during WWII, but especially our fellow Americans who died at Pearl Harbor on this day, December 7th, 1941.
