I know we all support the troops and what they are doing for us today, but I really hope everyone can spend a few minutes today either away from irishenvy to learn about the men and women who gave so much for their country on this day in 1941 or share some thanks and thoughts here.

My dad tells me about that day and what it meant to him even though he was only kid at 8 years old. Sadly, I can identify with him because of 9/11. He points out the only difference between the 2 events is that Americans were able to fight back against their attackers at Pearl Harbor while they were being attacked. The United States took a beating that day, but those brave Americans went down fighting the whole way.

Some could argue that the Allies were only able to defeat the Axis powers once the United States entered the fray. It was the sacrifice of those Americans at Pearl Harbor that got the US involved in WWII and ultimately the victory of good over evil.

I hope we never forget all of the "greatest generation" for the patriotism and courage during WWII, but especially our fellow Americans who died at Pearl Harbor on this day, December 7th, 1941.

Today is extra special because the survivors of Pearl Habor have said that this will be the last time that they will all gather in Hawai'i to mark that day. They have had a tradition of getting together every 5 years since that day and today will be the last time they will all get together.

GOD bless them and all women and men that are presently serviing and have served.

Would strongly urge everyone to speak to a WWII veteran if you haven't already. Their stories need to live on, and someday when all are gone we will need to tell our kids their stories and the importance of them.

My grandfather was on Iwo Jima. We compare stories of the Marine Corps today and 60 years ago. He still dislikes the Japanese to this day. He says he never will forgive them for what they did at Pearl. He says he got revenge at Iwo for those boys that died on Dec. 7th though.

Not just what they did at Pearl, what they did to unfortunate ones that were captured by them. I had two relatives that served in the marines during WW2, one made it back, the other they never found to this day.

If people think that water boarding is torture or making a guy stand around naked, ask a vet from WW2, Korea and Vietnam that had the misfortune of being a POW what GOD awful stuff they went through. What is being done today by our guys is Frat house pranks, not torture. We went through far worse as an indoctrine for earning jump wings than what is going on at Gitmo.

GOD bless all of our Vets!!

PS, sorry for the rant, i don't want to turn this into a political debate. Sorry Everyone, had to get it off my chest, I won't mention anything else on that subject.

Good for him. I didn't live through it with the Japanese like he did, but I can understand his feelings. I can't imagine 60 years from now forgiving Al-Qaeda.

The Greatest Generation.

My grandfather was on Iwo Jima and Guadal Canal as well.

I could never get him to talk about it.

My Grandfather was a bombardier on B-25's in WWII and did recon in Korea and Vietnam... he was captured in Vietnam and had to give up the watch that the family had given him as a present in exchange for his life... Exact details were always hard to get from him as he too never really spoke of it...

Anyway this may be an obvious point but for those interested the history channel/discover and otherwise will be doing to the whole day long thing today...

Also, let's give some love to the boys and girls currently serving along with our Vets... Our troops often get denied the attention they need after and at times during the time they serve.... You see a vet or current enlistee at a bar or such, offer a drink and say thank you, that's my personal common practice...
