Scout now lists him as an ND Offer. I don't have him on my list and don't recall seeing this name before. Is this an error or is there a new DL in the mix?

Greg Banks #38 DE 6-5 260 5.2 CO Denver Montebello pass rusher
offers from CAL CU UM ND UCLA UW OU with officials to CU UM UW

he seems a bit slow for a DE (runs a 5.2). my guess is he'll be a DT in college.

40 times are overrated. Julius Peppers and Dwight Freeney were clocked at 4.7-4.8 while in college. Albert Haynesworth and John Henderson at 5.0+.

Game speed is a lot different then just speed. I'll take a guy that runs a 5.5 second 40 if he gets to the ball more then a guy that runs a 4.4.

I'm guessing it is an error.

I don't see him even on an interested list anywhere else, let alone an offer.

Likes Colorado and scUM.

Yep, sure did... which is AFTER his high school and college careers, which further illustrates my point that the kid could be a 5.2 now and end up faster when put into a quality strength and conditioning program.

Which is a long way from this kids 5.2 even if the 5.2 isn't optimistic. I made the same assumption "probably a DT in college". Granted 40 times are less a consideration for DEs than WRs, RBs, and DBs but the good DEs have a quick burst for the necessary 8-10 yds to drop a QB or move laterally along the line to string out a sweep.

Right, but Freeney ended up at a 4.3 after 4 years at Syracuse. If this kid is a legit 5.2 (which I can't believe at his weight considering top OL run 5.0-5.2 at 300+) then he can be in that 4.7-4.8 range after proper strenght and conditioning programs.

I'm going to go out and say the kid is probably a 4.8-5.0 flat 40 and the 5.2 was off. At 265, if he is a 5.2, he probably has leg/knee issues.

This is apparently where it came from:

Five Visits Set Don Hoekwater GoBlueWolverine.com,
According to Montbello High School Head Coach Oliver Lucas, his star player, defensive end Greg Banks, has the ability to play any position on the field. However, he says the plethora of top colleges recruiting the three-star standout have him pegged for the defensive end spot. "He is such a gifted athlete," Lucas said. "He can do anything for us, but we play him on the defensive line because that's where he will play in college." Lucas reports that the 6-foot-5, 260-pound Banks has offers from, "As many schools as there are in the country," but has narrowed his list to five. "He has official visits set to Michigan, UCLA, Cal, Notre Dame, and Washington," Lucas said. "Oklahoma was in there for the last spot, but he felt more comfortable with the Huskies. Of course if any school starts getting lazy and not showing him proper attention, the list can change." Lucas said he wasn't certain of the dates of the official visits, but that Banks would be visiting Michigan on Nov. 18 for the Ohio State game. While Banks' top five is no secret, a favorite is not being revealed at this time. "I can't comment on which school is on top for Greg right now," Lucas said. "That wouldn't be fair to him or the other schools." Lucas said Banks does not have a phone at his home, so he is taking calls from coaches at the school. “We have a line here at the office,” he said. “We set up a time for the coaches to call and he talks to them that way, it works out ok because he doesn’t get a lot of calls from people when he needs to be studying or practicing.” Banks will make a decision within the next couple months, as he will begin college in January. "He's a great student, and will graduate in December," Lucas said. "So he's going to try and get all his official visits in before he decides, but since he's leaving early, he'll need to decide before the end of the year." Montbello is 6-2 on the season, and 5-0 in the 5A Denver Prep League. They face Washington on Friday, and will end the season at Denver South. Lucas said he was certain of Banks' stats on the season, but said he had over 70 tackles and three pass deflections.
