I have not resubscribed to the Blue&Gold, so therefore haven't heard much regarding spring practice....... anyone hear anything on Dayne?????
he progressing really well also but clausen is still the man. But he will be pushing him at practice
Crist will be great for us, but not yet, not now...
I agree totally - I think Crist will end up with better numbers than Clausen (not that clausens numbers are all that bad) I think he is more physically mature than JC. I keep hearing about his leadership skills, and I hope that is true. All great teams (and overachieving teams) have strong leadership. Although, I cant help to think that Te'o is going to be the natural leader for this team. Plus, he(crist) will have the benefit of walking into a jump started program, rather than having to establish a program like Clausen and company have had to endure.
...Here's a case in point: Earlier in the spring, when Crist was under center, the running game wouldn't work. Why? Christ kept misidentifying for the line who the MIKE LB was. That is crucial for the line to know, but Crist was confused every time the defense showed him a new look...
Crist is looking much better and is a great leader. However, as was already stated, he is far behind Jimmy right now. JC's accuracy, experience, and knowledge of the offense is what is separating the 2 right now.

That's why experience is so crucial at he QB position, and why it was laughable when people were screaming for Crist to play last year, when he was even less prepared.

excellent post! I am with you, I coached football on the high school level and college level for 20 years, and you are exactly right about identifying the mike backer, critical to the offensive line!
Look at Tebow, he is a great example. He is the heart and soul of the Gators. Thats what we got from Quinn, and that is what this team really lacks right now. That is where Jimmy really needs to mature and fill that void. Big numbers are good from a qb, but every great team needs a leader.
Tebow is maybe the best leader from the QB position ever in college football, thats a lopsided comparison for almost any college QB to ever play the game.
I think he is just as talented as Clausen, in fact probably more so. What he lacks at this point is experience. He will be great after Clausen graduates though.
Jimmy is not much of a leader. He has talent, but I haven't seen him take control like Brady did. Hopefully Dayne can provide that leadership when its his turn.

what a load of crap.
it is sheer lunacy to compare one current player to all players of all time. especially when the media has purposefully planted its lips firmly on the ass of said player. this is the same logic that leads people today to think Clinton was one of the greatest presidents of all time. "what have you done for me lately?"
This team has much more experience now, and by all accounts (even Weis) has said Jimmy is ahead of Brady going into their Junior years.
Where did Weis say this?
I never said he was one of the best college QB's but the best leader from the QB position. I'm not a Tebow fan by any means and yes the media kisses his ass but denying his leadership abilities is downright insane.

Even if he cant identify the mike, the center should..he should be dictating assignments that will go down the line. What do I know tho? Anyways, Crist hopefully will be good, even tho I enjoy the comments, it does seem to be a little premature. It will be interesting to see him in mop-up/blowout duty, then we will see how he actually can handle himself.

You can hate on Tebow all you want. I really can't stand the guy. I was just using him as an example of a guy who can flat out just will his team to victory.
But I do know Jimmy pussed out at some key times last season, like when the game was on the line at NC, and before the game at the Coliseum the poor guy shat his pants. Where was his confidence then? This year he better grow a pair. He is not here just to look pretty and diddle the ladies. He is here to win games. Yes I know "he was young," well that is no longer an excuse this season. Judgment day is upon us boys.
