Dayne Crist at SMC

I was at Saint Mary's this weekend for my sister's graduation and Dayne Crist was sitting a couple of rows in front of me. He came in late, so it was easy to spot him. My brother-in-law and I approached him for an autograph and we talked to him while we were waiting. I asked him if he is excited about KU and how the team looks. He was polite and seemed excited for the spring. I really hope he does well at KU, as mad as I was that he didn't seem to fight to get back into that Michigan game two seasons ago I like the guy.

Dayne tweeted a photo of his graduation certificate and said something like "they can't take this away."

IMO he was referecencing having the starting QB job taken away from him and he is a little bitter. But I agree Dayne is usually very classy about it

Worst thing we ever did in the last 10 years was putting Tommy in for Crist after one half of play. Crist has the potential and the arm to become the top QB in the nation. His 2010 stats were overshadowed greatly by a poor 1st half vs. South Florida (Mostly the receivers fault). The only reason Tommy looked good the 2nd half was because the whole team ended up playing better as a whole. What a disappointment. Don't be surprised next year when Dayne throws for 3,000+ yards.

Who wouldnt be bitter at how things turned out... Still, Dayne handled the situation with class that earned my respect, I truly hope he does well at KU! I will be silently cheering for KU to win this season, dont really care about the other ND players that went there, but I have great respect for Dayne Crist.

I think Dayne got a raw deal at ND personally. But that's CFB and I only care because I think he could have been good. I wish him luck in Kansas and wouldn't be surprised to see him do well.

I agree with this. I understand he had his own turnover problems, and the fumble against USC was awful. But that, in my opinion, was a poor decision by Kelly. Who knows what ripple effect that would have had on the season, but I definitely didn't think he should have been pulled. But, alas, that is college football and we move on to another season, albeit with more quarterback concerns.

Injuries are what killed him. I disagreed with pulling him after one half myself and think BK gave up to quickly on him but its in the past now, as bitter even I am about it. The 94 yard TD to Rudolph vs Michigan is a great thing to replay.

I still don't understand the U$C game. Dayne is getting into a rhythm, oozing with confidence, then they throw in Hendrix for a play to run that sneak. I digress, it just wasn't in the cards for Crist at ND. Hope he can find redemption at KU.

One quick thing I'd like to point out (excuse me for my off topic Qb battle thing, and I seriously don't want to derail the thread) Is that Tommy Reese did outstanding in the second half of the USC game sans two turnovers that were at most half his fault.

Dayne never seemed to me to portray any swagger or confidence at all. When your QB looks like he is down, scared, or not sure in what he is doing there is a real big problem. I don't think Dayne was ever going to get the confidence that he needed to play for BK. Its unfortunate as I am sure he is a good kid and deserves another shot but he wasn't a fit for kelly. This all still comes back to weis, who couldn't develop a player to save his life. Then the poor kid came into an offense that didn't suit him at all, not to mention the injuries. He had the cards stacked against him, but I still wanted to see more confidence from a blue chip recruit....not that tommy had any of that either but at least tommy had some balls and wouldn't curl up in a shell like crist seemed to do....regardless both of the two guys i mentioned will never play QB at ND again so it really doesnt matter..

Haha that Rudolph TD was purely UM secondary sucked, they had a giant mismatch, and at the end of the day scoring so fast cost us that game.

PS: I have nothing against Crist, seemed like a great kid. I think if you could have taken Tommys brain and stuck it in Dayne's head you'd be looking at a Heisman contender.

Curl up in a shell when? He was named the starter last year and Kelly pulled him after an awful first half by the entire offense, not just Dayne, and NBC stuck a camera in his his dejected face. All of a sudden everybody's a psychologist. I though Dayne had some bright spots in 2010 and would have liked to see him develop a little. But his injury that year and the hellish start against USF made it very difficult for Kelly to allow Dayne any margin for error and personally think it kind of ruined last season.
