I thought he played a pretty good game today. I think he caught everything that came his way. Nice catches on the sidelines too. Gotta make sure he gets to the sticks on third and ten though. Anways, it was nice too see someone other then #83,#89,#5, or #3 in the passing game. Hopefully it was sort of a break out game for him today, I think he had 8 catches for 86 yards. WR is a position we won't have alot of experience at next year. He seems to be doing a good job catching with his hands instead of his body.
Big up to D.G.!

BTW- If anyone is watching Hawaii vs New Mexico St, I'm sure your being entertained right now.

here here... Grimes has played HUGE... one of my biggest concerns at the start of this year was who's our #3 with DJ out?

J.C. has been slightly more shaky at times but has also been thrown to a ton more... both he and Grimes have really come through this year...

BTW my girl stated today that J.C. is one of the best looking men she has ever seen... fine with me as long as he plays for the Irish... and his name doesn't sound alike to "Lying heart,"

Yeah, this was the closest thing he's had to a breakout game, we'll see how he follows this up next week.

Honestly, other than on special teams, this was the first game where I really noticed him.

He had a few nice catches vs. UM but of course I don't think anyone wants to remember that. He really did look good today. Some of those sideline catches were really impressive.

funny, when you look at it right now, we may have more overall talent on the field NEXT year, just not at the key pos.

we need to get ahead big and get these youngins some PT over next few weeks...

His 14 yard catch at the end of the game was a great diving catch...he really played well today. It was great to see him do so well.

I'd much rather see Walls returning KO's in place of Grimes. Walls looked pretty good returning KO's, and had that one very nice return which was called back because of a hold.

Kudos to Grimes on his breakout game, hopefully he'll back it up.

I think we are pretty deep in the receiving side. I really like Richard Jackson and Robby Parrish. Two big target plus the incoming freshmen Duval Kamara.

Lets just say I am not worried about next years receiving group. Grimes I have always felt was a great asset. With DJ Hord they will be good together. I havent seen West too much but the fact that he is playing makes me think posotively.

wooden doesnt return kicks

yeah, but grimes is back too. grimes took walls's KR spot, and wooden took his DB reps... kinda sucks, but at least we know the guy can play for the most part.

Part of the problem with the offense (besides the OLine) is in a 4 or 5 wide set, ND doesn't have 5 WRs. Defenses can key on the Jeff and Rhema with impunity. ND hasn't had a bona fide 3 WR set until the UCLA game. Aside from the error on the first down marker he looked prime time.

I don't care how talented the incoming WR class may be, they won't know the system. You don't break 3 new receivers and a QB in simultaneously. Got to have some Div 1 experienced hands lining up to start next season. Grimes is a bright sign for the rest of the season and a foundation for next year.

Hopefully we can play well enough in some of the next few games to get the 2nd string WRs some playing time.

Grimes had an excellent game, he has made a nice habit of toeing the sidelines on some catches this season. If you say you haven't noticed him until the UCLA game you don't pay much attention because he is in on a few dozen snaps every game. His increased number of catches, more in the UCLA game than his entire career , is probably a result of an adjustment with all the coverages being rolled over to McKnight's side and a bracket on Samardzija in the slot.

If you say you're feeling confident about the wide receivers next year then you're crazy. Parris and Jackson have 1 catch between them this season. DJ Hord had 0 catches last season. It's nice to see West on the field but he's only really come in on specialized packages and they haven't thrown his way all season.

Something to look for next season will be lining up Walker in the slot out of the backfield, Weis used Kevin Faulk this way in New England and it will give whomever starts at QB next year another reliable receiving option. They really need Carlson to come back for his fifth year or get lucky and find one of the graduated senior transfers.

Grimes needs to become more of a contributor on offense. Samardzija is getting double teamed this year minus Stovall. He's a red zone threat, but in open space on a long field they're on him like white on rice.

If Grimes starts catching some passes and moving the sticks, they will have to account for him. He'll also free up Carlson for a few more catches as well. He's pretty well covered most of the time too and he still makes some pretty big catches. No way he comes back for an extra year. He's NFL money right now and I think he's better than Fasano in that he's bigger, has better hands and doesn't seem to have fumbleitis.

If Grimes emerges as that third WR, things could open up a bit.

You are correct about next year's WR. I am confident in one of them. Grimes is it. That doesn't mean others can't step up. It's just too early to count on them.

I suspect we'll see more effort to slow the game down next season while the young skill players get a little seasoning.

Ya think Charlie will find a way to keep the Offense AND the Defense off the field the year to cover weaknesses?

Very slow punts. And a lot of laterals on kick returns.

I was trying to find a way to keep Special Teams on the field but was stumped. You can only run so many fakes.

"Very slow punts and a lot of laterals on kick returns."

Charlie, we've got the '07 season Game Plan!

Is Price back next year? It's conceivable that he can add 30 or 40 seconds to his hang time.

I know Charlie has consulted with Ara and Lou on the nuances of coaching at ND. For '07, Charlie could consult with another former ND Coaching Legend, Bob Davie, on the finer points of running out the clock and how to effectively run fewer plays in a game while milking time off the clock.

And taking a safety that ends the season for your QB with the USC game the next week
