He said he has been in contact with Ianello and Weis and the RUMORS were untrue. He said he is looking forward to coming to ND and being the QB. I hope this stops the crazy notions regarding Weis reneging on an offer!

Jones: “I Know It’s Not Me”
by RYAN O'LEARY

Demetrius Jones spent part of his study hall on Thursday afternoon perusing the various Notre Dame message boards – and he finds the rumors floating around pretty funny.
The latest scuttlebutt has former Arkansas commit Mitch Mustain coming aboard with the Irish, possibly at the expense of one of the current quarterback verbals (Jones or Zach Frazer). The word floating around cyberspace is that Jones or Frazer has been “dropped because of character issues.”

If indeed there is anything to the gossip, Jones says matter-of-factly, “I know it's not me.”

He describes his relationship with Charlie Weis as “more than just a player-coach relationship,” and says that anything in his life that could be construed as a "character issue" is just joke fodder between Weis and Jones, if anything at all.

Besides, would Jones really have been at the banquet last weekend if he had been dropped?

He says he's seen video of Mustain, and acknowledges that the Springdale (Ark.) star is a good player, but finds the idea that Mustain would steal a scholarship from he or Frazer ridiculous.

“He ain't good enough to snatch anybody's schollie,” he said. “People are trying to make excuses to drop me and Zach.”

He wouldn't comment on whether there are any issues with Frazer, saying it's not his place to speculate on gossip or rumors about other players. The two don't speak on a regular basis.

“If the shoe don't fit my size, 13,” Jones said, “I'm not gonna put it on.”

He will, however, be putting on a Notre Dame helmet come summertime – that much can be set in stone. Jones isn’t worried about what gets said in the meantime.

“People (don’t have anything) else to do but spread rumors,” he said in response to all the chatter.

He added that he doesn’t care if Notre Dame takes more than two quarterbacks, but noted that Weis did say he’d only sign two.

“I’m sure he’s a man of his word,” said Jones.

Demetrius is a man of his word as well – and his word is that nothing’s going to get in the way of him playing for the Irish, so any talk surrounding him can be put to rest.

Stay tuned into BlueandGold.com for any developments in this “situation,” but be assured that none of it involves anyone in Chicago.

I love this kid. Gave me chills.
That's the kind of strong personality we need on this squad. DJ aint afraid. He's gonna go in and battle for his time and I have no doubts after reading this piece that he won't fail.

You don't grow up in "773" and not end up tough.

We city kids from Chi play hard, talk hard. Jones is a battler. He showed his moxy in the city playoffs and in the Prep Bowl this year.

If Brady Quinn is All Day Tough, Charlie is going to LOVE Double D.

Jones remains one of my favorite recruits. I'm excited about his athleticism and his toughness. And I say it over and over, but the effiency of his numbers is sick. The kid can throw the football.

He can throw and run.

But he isn't even physically where he'll end up yet. Mendoza will have to bulk him up. Weis and Vaas will work on his mechanics and technique.

Jones has a pretty high ceiling with the Notre Dame brass guiding him.

Is he Zorich at QB?

I look at McNabb's bodytype and with proper weight training, he could end up like him, or at least very similar to Vince Young's body while in school.

Jones spoke with Ryan O'Leary of BGI last night. Most of the conversation will be kept off the record by O'Leary, but what we know is this:

Jones will be in South Bend come summer, hell or high water.

He also laughed at the notion that he would make a fine WR or TE. He's been out on the boards looking at some of the rumors going around.

In regards to the posters idea of Jones making a good receiver:

"Tell them thanks."

I read a lot of boards. An occassional yahoo suggests him as a WR, but most seem to be happy with him at QB. I can't wait to see what he can do.

Frazer and Jones have both cleared things up.

Not so much what they said, but the way they said it has impressed me. I also get a sense, per their comments, there is great repore between each one of them and Weis.

Weis and Jones have an inside joke in regards to Jones' "character issues" according to James Aldridge.
