Could we get two 1,000 yard rushers?

Cierre Wood has 907 rushing yards. Including our bowl game, he needs to average 31 yards per game over the final three games. He should get there pretty easily.

Jonas Gray has 730 rushing yards. Including our bowl game, he needs to average 90 yards per game over the final three games. It will be much tougher for him to get there than Wood, but with the way he has been rushing the ball lately, it is certainly possible.

It would be pretty epic to have two 1,000 yard rushers and you've got to think it would mightily impress running back recruits (cough cough Keith Marshall cough cough). What do you say? Think we get there?

No.

Wood will finish with ~1,100 yards.

Gray will finish with somewhere between 900-950 yards.

Either way, the running game has exceeded everyone's wildest expectations.

Wood is a shoe in...barring injury.

Gray could hit it with the help of BC's run defense.

If we continues on the pace he's going (11 TD in the last 7 games), Jonas Gray will finish the year with 16 rushing TDs.

Cierre Wood has 9 and is on pace (5 TD in the last 7 games) for 11 scores.

Pretty damn crazy.

If Gray can get > 130 or so vs. BC then I like his chances. We SHOULD have a big enough lead that he can get a lot of carries in the second half. I hope this is the case as it would definitely be in the back of the minds of future RB recruits.

I would think Kelly wants to have two 1,000-yard rushers if only because it would help the recruitment of Keith Marshall, who wants to "share the load" and still have great success.

I know it was Oregon but I was not impressed with Stanford's defense. I think we will see similar numbers from Maryland against Boston college and hopefully rush for our season average against Stanford to be successful against them.

I could see it and would love it. Gray needs 90 yards a game, could very well happen with him starting

In unrelated news, Michael Floyd needs 17 catches for the single season record.

is Jonas still on track to break the Gipper's record of Yards Per Cary in a season?

Gipper had an 8.1 YPC. Gray has a 7.1 YPC. Raising his YPC a whole yard is much harder now considering all the carries he's had. Also, Stanford's defense is gonna be waiting for him, so its possible, but seems highly unlikely he'll break it.

Some quick math tells me that if Jonas gets 30 more carries this season he would have to average about 10.8 yards per carry to get to an 8.2 season average. The problem is that Jonas keeps getting his runs cut short by the end zone.

Agree no matter what running game has really been beautiful. O line O line O line the motor and we are running a Hemi out there.

Gray needs about 90 yds a game to get to 1000. He appears to have taken the starting spot and is the workhorse so yes it could very well happen.

Haha, damn touchdowns. I don't know if they'll both get to 1000, but I think they'll have 2,000 combined.

I think we will. Gray is liable to explode for a big run at any moment, and he is definitely getting enough carries. I also believe he will be featured quite a bit on senior day.

If Gray has 150+ yards against Boston College, then this will be 100x more likely.

Wood is a shoe in...

This is not aimed at anyone in particular. I'm just trying to shed a few straws from this grammar obsessed aging camel's back before it breaks.

"SHOO-IN: This expression purportedly comes from the practice of corrupt jockeys holding their horses back and shooing a preselected winner across the finish line to guarantee that it will win. A 'shoo-in' is now an easy winner, with no connotation of dishonesty. 'Shoe-in' is a common misspelling."

This is not the shoo/scram (as in "get the hell out of my yard, ya miscreant brats") but shoo/usher in (as in "right this way, your path has been cleared and your seat is reserved").

I'm a little skeptical about Atkinson. Of course he has great speed but I don't know if he can cut like a good RB can.

^ Great stat and shows the strength of our D line and linebackers. I thinks its pretty funny how we get a coach known for spread O and not too big on running but then the backs have this kind of season.

Notre Dame this season is sitting on 23 rushing TDs, which is one shy from the total of both the 2010 and 2009 seasons combined.

haha...wow quite a stat

jonas needs to have a big game this week if this is an attainable goal cuz i'm thinking we're going to run into a decent defense in our bowl game and stanford will probably be healthy by the time we play them so it's gonna be tough to run on our last two opponents.

if he can bust out 140 yards this weekend i like our chances of doing this.
