My speakers won't work on my computer anymore :(

Headphones still work and the speakers turn on, but no sound. I've tried checking different things to see if it got muted somewhere and I cant find anything. I can't imagine the speakers broke, I hardly use them.

I have a creative x-fi sound card; does anyone know if maybe something got muted or turned off somehow?

Reps and vbucks for any help, thanks everyone.

I have the same card as you. Sometimes the computer likes to set the defult settings back to the ONBOARD sound...that's not the card.

Go into CONTROL PANEL then SOUNDS and see if your Creative is set up to be the default. I would bet it's not any more.

Also, you can run Creative Diagnostics.

Hey I am a Store Manager for a Technology retailer, also make sure you check your default setting as was said before, also make sure none of the drivers for your Sound Card are corrupted. You can go the the website of the of the card manufacturer to download any additional software patches or drivers normally!

Headphones (plugged into the sound card) work? It wouldn't be the driver or onboard sound then. I would check all of the speaker connections.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the speakers are shot. Thanks for the help, I went through all the steps.

Wow, that's a nice box. I've only been in the industry about a year now so I have much much more to learn. One of these days I will build my own but the time and finances aren't there right now.

Where in the industry are you? I'm pretty happy with my current job (non IT), but have considered IT a hobby I wouldn't mind making a career out of. I am A+ and Network+ certified, but with no formal experience it means nothing. Threadjack over.....

oh sure, you guys can help KP get his speakers working but no one can help me figure out why as of two weeks ago I am blocked from IE at work? (1) no other web pages are blocked, and 2) I'm the boss so no one changed my settings to keep me from accessing it while working)

Can you send me your IP from work? Maybe it's one of the ones we have blocked...

Its obvious from my site- the poodle is concerned you are passing inside info to the Irish faithful, so he had one of his paid spys infiltrate /hack into your puter and dick it up.
I think that might happen to me after I hit thousands of posts by the BSU guys here in Boise.
