Tyree muffs the punt

Tyree drop an easy screen pass that looked like one of the few good play calls by Parker

Hartman plays worst game in ND uniform

Marist had couple of missed tackles before getting subbed out for…

Jack Kiser who also picked the wrong game to finally have a few missed tackles (the one thing he’s been reliable at)

JD was in wrong place a lot of the time which led to big runs…not like him at all.

Bothello was horrible and may as well had targeted Narduzzi last week so he could sit out this game

Cam Hart had a PI

B-Mo got beat on a critical 3rd down. It happens & he played well overall but again…when all these vets step on their peckers at the same time, you get what we got last Saturday.

DJ Brown did DJ Brown things which along w/ Marist (or Bothello?) on the safety blitz led to the long TD run by Mafah

Howard Cross uncharacteristically missed a tackle on the 3rd string RB. You never see that.

Holden Staes was horrible as a blocker as he missed his assignment on the horizontal pass to Tyree that got blown up. Instead of picking up his man he goes to double team the CB. And later he had the opportunity to lead block for Rico on his one reception for 35 yds & ended up blocking Tyree.

All the above begs the question: How were they not prepared for this game? I get some fans assumed an easy win b/c Clemson has played horribly this season...but the players? Did they truly think they could just show up & Klubnik would throw them a few picks, the Tiger offense would break down in the RZ & their back up CBs would struggle covering ND’s horrible receiving corps?

Basically mirrors what the ISD guys said. The II guys do think Botelho has been playing hurt though - they mentioned some neck brace/contraption that I didn't notice

With the way the offense is operating, they likely aren't getting too much rest.

I just don't understand why they decided to rest Morrison and Hart simultaneously on the same series. Was "rest" scheduled for any other defensive series in the game?

As mentioned in the G'Irish podcast (good listen, by the way), Klubnik threw for 59 yards that drive. He didn't throw for over 50 yards the remainder of the game.
Maybe because Mickey and grey played so well against Pitt, he thought it would be all right?

It’s also been said he tried to gain weight to hold up in the run game more but it’s totally had a negative affect on his ability to bend and rush the passer effectively

Almost every loss under Freeman sans OSU has been directly related to our team looking unprepared.

It's 100% a coaching issue

Almost every loss under Freeman sans OSU this year, and maybe USC last year, has also been directly related to offensive ineptitude. Which maybe is a coaching issue but also comes back to personnel.

Then he shouldn’t be playing. I listened to II pod yesterday and I don’t recall that but could’ve missed it. I do recall them saying how bad he looks.

I’d say every loss other than OSU this year. ND had a chance vs SC last year but the offense let them down. Zero run game despite that being ND’s strength & SC having a weak run D. And the defense was tackling as bad vs SC RBs as they did vs Mafah. BTW, Mafah gained 113 yards AFTER contact.

I have a hard time criticizing the players when one week they're up and the next week not-i just dont think theses guys are game day coached very well and this years team was very (really) talented. This was a shame as they were as good if not better than every team they played-what a waste of talent to allow them to sleep walk thru some of these games they really should have 4 loses-Duke out played them what a waste of a very talented team. Then add salt to the wound because Clemson had no penalties in the entire game-a virtual impossibility in todays college football-what a mess this is as it reminds me of the Faust years-he had great players too.

Go listen to Greg and Jamie for ISD and watch Greg’s clips on Twitter.

They also really gave a good take on the bad coaching with out trying to be real negative.

I don’t see edge being the main issue, I see really poor run fits from the front 6/7 and some lack of physicality

Someone completely whiffs or takes terrible angle and one or two brutal no call tackle/holes
Definitely poor run fits overall vs Clemson. But on the TD run, Bothello got washed out of the play & DJ Brown shit the bed. Why he took that route we’ll never know but that should’ve been a TFL. Golden had the right call. That truly was execution.

Yep, I guess my point was dj brown blitzing isn’t really there to set the edge he’s there to blow up the play… but agree obviously, no clue what he was doing, only thing I can think of is he selfishly went all in on qb hoping for sack and realized too late he handed it off

Looks like he went in out of control and, yeah, the possibility of it being a running play wasn't in his mind. Then Botelho got washed out, Liufau didn't respond fast enough and there was basically no one else on that side of the field.

yeah botelho did NOT play physical enough vs clemson. On one of the other 10 yard plus runs, an olinemen pulls to block him from making the tackle, botelho is soft there as well when I'd like to see the DE try to blow that block up. If he blows that block up that run gets stuffed because the hole wouldn't have been there even if botelho isn't the one making the tackle.

Dline had a lot of momentum the last 2 games going into Clemson and played pretty poorly. Effort, not phsyical, missed tackles, not being gap sound. Dissapointing. Probably the worst game of the year for the dline.

Yes, you are correct. I think he was referring to Bothello not setting the edge as he got washed away upon the snap of the ball. Listening to ISD pod, evidently he’s been playing hurt. On another note, the one play I saw Sneed in, he got totally controlled at the point of attack and was a non-factor.

You know how Freeman always cites “execution” as the reason the offense floundered? I think that better applies to the defense vs Clemson. Looking back, it wasn’t necessarily Golden’s play calling, it was the execution. Poor tackling, wrong fits, etc. Now the ‘resting” of the starting secondary definitely deserves scrutiny but I don’t know who makes that direct call…Mickens or Golden? Either way, cost ND a TD.

It’s not easy to win in Death Valley. You can make up the reasons but Clemson has one of the best home field advantages in CFP.

I had that as the second hardest game for this reason. On a neutral field ND wins by 7++.

That was the largest home underdog they had been in something crazy like 13 years. So, there wasn't a better opportunity to beat them at death valley in a long long time than ND had last weekend.

Irish couldn't stop the run is why they lost..... period. Can't start almost each offensive drive within the 10ish yd line.

Don't overthink it. ND lost primarily because the offense sucks. The defense basically gave up 21 points (3 points after muffed punt, pick six).
They lost because they were the smallest midget in the room. I was at the game and it was awful - both teams looked bad. Clemson has nothing to be proud of either.

We went back to my buddy’s house at The Cliffs and saw the LSU v Bama game. Those teams were playing at a much higher level of football in that game.

Disagree on bama lsu high level… it was due to qb scrambles for both teams… but they did look better than nd and Clemson

Golf at cliffs?
