Per CW, Clausen will play, however, Armando Allen will be a game-time decision.

Surprised on Allen, that really hurts (never thought I'd type that statement!), but that means Gray, Theo and possibly Wood?

Losing Allen would really hurt in pass protection. He is the best blocker we have in the backfield. Jonas is a talented runner, but terrible at blocking. I would bet Hughes gets 10-15 carries.

What looked to be an "easy game" a month ago appears that this may be a dog fight. On the road in a hostile fucked-up environment w/ major injuries to contend w/ for the Irish .... damn!!!! I'm serious .... DAMN!!! I better start stock piling and icing down the beer for Sat. night! It could be a loooonnnnggg night of heavy drinking!

By the way, to hell w/ scUM! I hate those bastards!!!!

I wonder if Hughes will see some time in single-back sets or not. I know Riddick's pass blocking is suuposedly pretty strong so I wonder if he will see a lot of time in passing situations. I like Gray but the occasional 15+ run doesnt make up for the brutal blocking, especially when it leads to Clausen getting injured

Hughes has not been the same since his freshman year, when have we have a chance to say HUUUUUUUUUUGHES this year?? I say Theo Riddick gets majority of the touches and I hope Cierre Wood gets some playing time.

I honestly think that Purdue wont be much of a challenge. Yep I said it. I think we are too physical and deep for them. Also I think this is the week were you see the defense excel. Notre Dame 37 Purdue 20

Could this possibly be setting up for a huge night from Clauson? All you hear is "he has so much offensive talent around him" Well with Floyd out, and Allen out, and a hurt Clauson, this is a great opportunity to shut the critics up and have a great game and really start the heisman talks.

Saw in the article that Hughes/Gray got a large amount of reps. Seems like Riddick wont be getting too many carries if this one is close. Just what the article seemed to imply, but I would love to see Riddick get 8-10 carries.

Don't Bogart that joint my friend, pass it over to me. Or the bong. Or the Hookah. I, too, think the defense will get their shit together this week. The offense will keep on truckin' with a few new twists.

Just in case things go awry I'll be placing a larger than usual weekend order at the local liquor store. And closing my windows and doors for the aural benefit of my neighbors. Oh, and ordering a "Four and Twenty" pie from my favorite bakery --- been "crowing" to a Broiled Maker friend. We win, he eats. We lose, I hit him in the face with it.

Honestly, I don't think Hughes was ever that good.

I think he was so hyped after his freshman season because he was young and he had a couple of good performances near the end of the season (against powerhouses Duke and Stanford), and there was promise.

Bruiser Hughser is painfully slow and still hasn't completely utilized his physique to his advantage.

Highes is not that slow.

I have a feeling Allen will play but he'll be limited to protect him.

I would like to see us come out in spread again and let the young WR's get in the game quickly.

I pray that we save Wood this year. Wasting a year of eligibility for a couple of plays would be a travesty. Between him, Riddick, and a vastly improved annual haul of offensive lineman, we might actually see this team "Pound the fucking rock" for a change! How bout them apples!

Id like to see that too. Riddick got in because of his return abilities more than being a better RB.

LLet him sit for a year. Next year he can compete with Gray, Highes and Riddick for the #2 then its his time to shine for 3 years if he is willing

From what I've seen, Wood has the ups to jump over any university of scratchy crotch or skunkbear line I've ever seen. He'll be a behemoth in the years to come. Doesn't anyone miss the days when we could pound a team into submission with the running game? A inimitable passing game on top of it? Foggetaboutit..................

Then, the defense can show up and, blammo! a complete team!

From what Weis said this seems more like the case of Allen only getting 10-15 carries as opposed to 20-25

I think Weis is pulling a little trickery here with BOTH the Clausen and Allen injuries...I'm not saying either guy is 100%, but there is something to be said for not showing all of your cards until game day. Either way, I say we empty the backfield for the entire drive on the first four possessions, much like we did last weekend, and let Clausen go out and throw it all over the field. Screw it, the way Jimmy's throwing the ball, make them show us they can stop the passing game. Jump out to an eary lead, have the DEFENSE make a few stops, then we can pund the rock and kill some clock.

Oh, and yes, Hughes IS rather slow - just try playing with him on "NCAA 10" xbox 360, he killed my team when Allen went down with a shoulder injury!! Couldn't get him to the outside, and then when I tried going between the tackles, no luck....good thing JC is a stud for me in that game!!

Go Irish, beat Boilers!
