I think Weis doesnt handle the rb position too well at all. Armando Allen has become a runner who powers through contact and has become a workhorse back after adding weight and power.

If Allen could take 20-25 carries per game he could be over 100 yards all the time and I think he would get stronger as the game went on.

They take him out by the goal line and I dont understand it. I know Hughes is bigger and perceived as the more powerful back but we dont do well putting the ball in the endzone from inside the 5, running it.

The times AA has run it close, weve scored TDs.

Agreed, pound for pound AA runs harder than Hughes. You add speed and shiftiness to that equation and AA should be the guy even on short yardage situations, either that or let GT jump over the pile.

Once again, Allen has an ankle injury.

He suffered an ankle injury in the MSU game where he already had 23 carries for 115 yds and 1 TD. He was held out in the 4th quarter of that game with the game on the line and all of the Purdue game.

In the first 3 games of the season Allen averaged 20 carries/game, 109 yds/game, better than 5.5 ypc. Since the injury he missed part of one game and all of the next. Allen returned with that injured ankle against Washington and struggled for 39 yds on 12 carries for 3.2 yds/carry. A week later he had another 12 carry game but increased his ypc to 4.2. Last week against BC he had 21 carries and 4.7 ypc STILL ON AN INJURED ANKLE!

I think Weis doesnt handle the rb position too well at all.

Let's review, Weis had a FB, Aldridge, for the first game of the season then lost him with a shoulder injury. Hughes practiced at both FB and RB. Floyd then went out with a broken clavicle drastically reducing the vertical passing game. Then Clausen was hurt with the turf toe that limited his mobility and hurt the passing game. Then Allen, the leading rusher, the best RB Receiver in ND history, AND the best RB pass blocker on the team gets hurt in the same game. Jonas Gray had already proven to be an inconsistent blocker and Riddick as a freshman is just learning how to be pass block, much less read defenses, know all the audibles, and be adept at blitz pickup.

Wood hasn't seen the field. It'd be really clever to put him to learn blitz pickup on the job, wouldn't it? "Sorry Jimmy, I didn't know he was my man. Can you move your legs yet?"

Weis, running out of mobile backfield personnel, inserted the Wildcat using Tate, Goodman, Riddick, and Hughes among others. Then Hughes goes down on a goal line play with an illegal helmet hit to his left temple. Concussion. No score. Allen hasn't scored a rushing TD since he was injured. Ankle injuries are NOT conducive to goal line power running.

Recently you made a similar disingenuous post pointing out that Reggie Brooks ran for 8 ypc but this TEAM only averages 3.7. How cute comparing a record setting performance by one RB on a stacked team against this TEAM performance with a multitude of All-American players. Brooks and 22 teammates were NFL Draft Picks, 7 First Rounders and 5 Second Rounders.

This crippled team is averaging 3.7 yds/carry but simply eliminating limping Jimmy Clausen's contribution to that team average results in a team average of 4.2 ypc.

Don't think that's fair. Consider this, as the injuries mounted so did the sacks. In the first 2 games ND had zero sacks. Floyd goes down, than Clausen AND Allen get foot injuries and MSU gets 2 sacks. Next game Purdue gets 4 sacks. Washington gets 3. USC gets 5. BC only gets 1.

Do you agree or disagree that the running game is lacking attempts? Running more to show diversity would help prevent some sacks wouldn't it? We have a great passing game, I see why we throw so much, but would running the ball more make us better? We won't know until we start running plays with AA like we did in the begining of the year, right? How many times on average has AA got the ball per Quarter in the last (3) games?

I do agree that i would have liked to have seen us run more agianst USC and BC, we seemed to have had some success when we did. However Allen has been hobbled all year and i would like to see Hughes get some rest becuase he looked like a concussion after the 4th down play. On the flip side i did not like the playcalling in the 4th qtr against BC when we got conservative on the last 2 drives

I believe that armando has more power than Hughes. Armando has the speed to burst through tackles. Hughes on the other hand cannot move. The dude is so slow. He's 240 lbs. and he got stood up by one of BC's safeties on the goal line. That just pisses me off.

Hughes just didn't look good against BC.... don't know the problem When they shifted after the first few series between from AA to Hughes - AA was getting ground, a wet turf slip away from a 60 yard score, and Hughes was geting back to the line.

He got lit up on a helmet to helmet shot and dropped like a stone. That didnt look like he got stood up, that looked like a concussion. As for being slow i believe he has the longest run of the season

I agree that the offense is relying on it's strengths. Specifically, Clausen, Tate, Rudolph, and the other role players at WR.

Running more might show some diversity, yes. Would it prevent sacks? Maybe, maybe not.

Running the ball would make us better? Again......maybe, maybe not. The offense averages 3.7 yards per rush, and 8.7 yards per passing attempt. We already know that Clausen knows how to take care of the ball, as is evidenced by his grand total of 2 interceptions. Maybe Weis is not relying on the young RBs because they have shown a tendency to cough up the ball, in practice? We don't know that they have, but neither do we know that they haven't. The point is that there might be a very good reason why the younger RBs have not seen many carries. It's one thing, to wish we had a more balanced offense. It's quite another, to presume that we know better than guys who get paid to coach, and see the players practice every day.

Very true, I get caught up in wondering a lot, if you haven't noticed. I wish someone knew why, besides the coaches. It drives me crazy.

*chuckles* Welcome to this crazy little thing called life, my friend.

P.S. Both of my parents were born and raised in Newark. My grandmother lived there for most of the time that I was growing up. Nice town.

Really!! My grandparents, parents, and myself were born and raised in Newark. I'm sure our family's have crossed paths one time or another. It's not as nice as it used to be, the economy is really hurting the city right now. Still better than the Columbo though! At least we still got that giant basket to look at!!! Hehehe.

Yep. My grandma used to live on Mt. Vernon Rd. Don't ask me where, exactly. I was pretty young, then. My dad went to Newark High School. He was buddies with Jim Tyre, in High School. My mom went to Newark Catholic.
