Just so everyone knows, San Diego State is down 26-21 to Cal Poly early in the 4th Quarter. Anyone else dissappointed with how the teams on our schedule are doing so far? Only teams that have impressed me are USC and Stanford.

Quick look at our schedule:

SDSU: Losing to Cal Poly 26-21
Michigan: Lost to Utah 25-23
Michigan State: Lost to Cal 38-31
Purdue: Idle
Stanford: Beat Oregon State 36-28
North Carolina: Beat Mcneese State 35-27
Washington: Losing to Oregon 21-10
Pittsburgh: Lost to Bowling Green 27-17
Boston College: Beat Kent State 21-0
Navy: Beat Towson 41-13
Syracuse: Lost to Northwestern 30-10
USC: Beat Virginia 52-7

I wrote about it in another thread. It's pathetic. I've never seen a ND schedule this bad. Maybe the teams will improve, because if not, losing to most of these teams would be a shame/embarrassing. I'm w/ you; I'm disappointed. Then again, we can't be 3-9 this year, that's for sure...

I agree we should wait for our boys to show up next week and put a whoopin on SDSU. All the same, cookie cutter schedules can lay the foundation for magical seasons (see OSU circa 2006, 2007). Does it seem so unreasonable to think our Irish could be 11-0 headed into L.A.? I don't care how bad some of these teams are, if we run the table headed into L.A.--all bets are off. Cal Poly and Arkansas State proved today that on any given day, --it happens.

I don't care about strength of schedule, I wanna see some wins!!!

It's not unreasonable, it's just unlikely in my opinion. If we play hard and play smart, minimize our mistakes, and maximize our ability, it's not unreasonable to think that we go 11-0 heading into the SC game. However, I see our team, who is still fairly young, making a few costly mistakes from time to time so I would not be surprised if we go into LA with a few losses.

So basically our opponent went 5 - 6 yesterday. Um & MSU lost to two pretty good teams. At least it wasn't App St & East. Mich. Wash. & Pitt lost to two ok teams, but I think the problem there is more coaching than anything! I would to be 11 - 0 going to USC, but I am looking for probably at least 8, probably 9. The games at MSU & BC still scare me.

Pitt and MSU both looked awful at times. I did not see BC or NC play. However, I think if we can win the first 4 and look good doing it, we are 11-0 going in to LA. I really think all of the first 11 games are winnable.

The team that concerns me a little bit is Stanford.

Anyone have any insights into the Tennessee-UCLA game this evening? I think I read UCLA was favored?? How do you think Neuheisel (sp?) will do in his debut? When the Irish aren't playing I root for the Vols. Anyone know how they are supposed to look this year?

Vols are favored by 7. Phil Steele has them ranked 23 in the preseason, but suggests that they have a tough road ahead with the #16 ranked toughest schedule in the nation. They do get Florida and Alabama at home, but play UGA on the road.

Rutgers and Fresno state are putting on an offensive showcase with the first score (a FG) coming with 10 mins left in the third qtr. that's right, it's 3-0 and the first score came after 2 qtrs and 4 mins.

Just got back from Burning Man!!! So this is my first football game of the season. The UCLA-Tenn game was an amazing game. I see a lot of good things from their qb. I see UCLA making a run for the Pac10 title this year after this game.

Eh? Interceptions are not "good things" They only way UCLA contends for the title is if USC, ASU and others all go down in a fiery plane crash.

Tennessee was ranked 18th. I say was, because they just got beat 27-24. Tough road ahead indeed.

Knox, no touches.
