On the local radio. WTEM sportstalk 980. Redskins VP of football operations and former ND personnel guy interviewed Jimmy Santa Clausen today. Interesting to note that he also flew to SB about a month ago to conduct 1 on 1 workouts with Jimmah.

No link because I'm at work and don't have time , I will post if I find.

and the draft picks, they are looking at Mccoy too ( flew to TX to see him) but he is a late 1 early2 guy. I think Jimmy is a top 5 pick

McCoy isnt a pro quarterback. I cant believe how fickle this stuff is.

Can anybody honestly see McCoy being a starting NFL QB?

Same for Jevan Snead. I dont get it these days, do these scouts just watch ESPN now?

Clausen, his accuracy would make him a star in a Belichick type system. He could pick teams apart for years.

Bradford = Bust.

Jake Locker might end up being the best of all here. He might go back for his senior year though.

I say the 2 producers from this QB class are Clausen and Locker. Locker being first.

That's a lot of wasted fuel to see McCoy. Most definitely not a pro quarterback. It is amazing that could not see that by simply watching a few of his games and then look at his measureables.

I don't like him either. But I have to say that I don't think schrute is right about Bradford. He can be real good.

even the experts screw up on who will mke good pro QB's. all the time. there are successful NFL QB's in the league right now that nobody felt could be what they are. only by injury to a guy ahead of them did they get a chance.

so much about being a successful QB is about what is above the shoulders.

average arm. check
average (or worse) mobility. check
little quickness. check
poor foot speed. check
cant read an nfl defense (one of the biggest knocks on him when he came to the league, and ironically, something he excels at). oops.

....who am i describing? Kurt Warner, who will probably end up in the hall of fame.

I don't know I agree with you about Snead. I think there's still a chance he could be successful. But I think it would do him a world of good longterm to come back for his senior season, despite the dramatic changes in rookie salaries he will probably see from 2010 to 2011.

Sure would be nice to find another Vinnie Cerrato-many people say he was a large portion of Lou's success. I'd ask Vinnie if he knew anyone that he thought could do what he did. I'd value his opinion.

You never know who is going to be a good QB in the NFL. Hell Atlanta screwed up with Brett Favre. Give someone a chance to see what they can do.

I remember a story about a young QB named Joe Montana. He was third string once. The ND QB's were giving out autographs. Joe asked a guy if he wanted his autograph, the guy asked who are you, and what string are you. Once Joe told him he was 3rd string QB, the guy didn't want his autograph. Boy I bet that guy is kicking himself in the *ss for that one.....

Cerrato's last recruiting class graduated after the '93 season. Lou's success and decline at ND correlates perfectly.

I want my 49ers to get Bradford, Clausen, or Locker. But I would probably put Locker at the top of the 3 because of his mobility.

Mallett should stay and be the #1 pick next year. He should be amazing although Petrino being his coach scares me a little.

It's too hard to project who is going to be a good NFL quarterback; conversely, it's easy to predict who isn't. I remember sitting back and watching the 2007 Draft and, as a Broncos fan, just laughing my ass off when Jamarcus Russell was picked by Oakland.

If you think back over the last 20 years, the best QB's have, for the most part, been completely out of left field:Tom Brady, Kurt Warner, Brett Favre. Drew Brees was taken in the second round but who really thought that a 6'0" tall quarterback with questionable arm strength was going to do what he's done? How about Mark Brunnel, he had a nice run for five years and most didn't see that happening. Even Tony Romo--who isn't great but is good enough--was a virtual unknown.

It's still true that every once in a while a highly regarded QB lives up to his potential: both Mannings, Rivers (to some degree), McNabb and Matt Ryan--at this point--come to mind.

But there sure have been a lot of busts. I would never want to be an NFL GM in need of a quarterback on draft day.

I agree, Theisman & Young, were touted early then had success later. Theisman went to CFL then had to sit behind Jergusen and Kilmer on the Redskins. Young went to the USFL, then Tamapa then sat behind the legend. As far as highly touted that succeeded don't forget Marino and Elway.

The bust would have to be Todd Blackledge, Richard Todd, Chuck Fusina, Pat Haden, Art Schlister, Ty Detmer (Heisman winner), Ryan Leaf, Danny Wueffel (Heisman winner), Jason White (Heisman winner), Pat Sullivan (Heisman winner), Andre Ware (Heisman winner), Gino Torretta (Heisman winner)

I haven't actually sat down and researched it but I wonder how many qb's and rb's that went on to have great careers were passed over in favor of that years qb/rb Heisman winner that turned out to be a bust.

lol At least it's not actually pronounced like that. I wanted to get a Semin player t-shirt, but I fear for the backlash because nobody here knows who he is. I really need to get a Backstrom jersey though.

I thought the same about Drew Brees and he seems to be panning out quite well.

Sorry Montana, just read through your post. Seems you beat me to the punch.

Anyone remember Ryan Leaf? Ouch, lol.

Everyone seems to rag on me and say Brady Quinn was a bust, but I don't think so, you got to give it some time. I was actually excited when Jamarcus was picked for the raiders, to me he fit the team perfectly. A team known for the intimidating fans could work well with a 6'6 260lb quarterback, but I think he just let it go to his head.

I remember i bought a pack of football cards and it came with a Randy Moss rookie and a Ryan Leaf Jersey card. That Ryan Leaf card was woth about $500 bucks and i was so excited. It is now worthless and i lokk back and think of the other rookie's that year. Why couldnt it have been Manning, Woodson, Moss, Fred Taylor.
