There is something that is bothering me, and maybe it's just me, maybe someone out there can help me understand why...If you look at the numbers that Brady is puttin up, and you compare them to Troy Smith, yes the same Troy Smith everyone is puttin first in there Heisman polls...aside from the 7 point difference in completion percentage, Brady has more impressive numbers against better competition...the TD/INT ratio is the same, and he has 300 more yards passing...I know the media looks squarly at the UM game, but come on, that same day tOSU was playing Cincinnati...i dont know, I think TS is good, and i give him a lot of respect, but to put him number 1, and BQ number 4 or 5...i dont know...we will see come the end of the year i guess

Brady doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the Heisman talks right now because of his performance against Michigan. Thats not to say he still can't win it, he needs to play at a very high level the rest of the way, and really pad his numbers up against teams like NC, navy, army, etc, and then play a great game against SC. If he can do that I like his chances at winning the Heisman.

Troy should be the leader right now, but his performance against PSU was below average, and not a heisman type performance, yet for some reason that game bolstered him in the heisman race. Everyone made such a big deal about Quinn's subpar performance against GTech(I didn't think it was as bad as people made it out to be) but Quinn's performance in that game was much better than Smith's performance against PSU, and GTech will be a better team this year than PSU.

None of the players in the Heisman race this year blow you away, it can still be had for Quinn.

I still think the race is open for anyone right now. It is still too early to start writing off who will win the NC or the Heisman. Personally, Adrian Peterson is my No. 1 for the Heisman right now. That guy is sick and has been for every year he's played. Troy Smith lost points for me this weekend because he finally looked human and made some mistakes.

For the Heisman, I'd like to nominate one player--any one you like--from the starting defenses of LSU (#2 in team defense), Michigan (#5) or U$C (#6). Or that linebacker for tO$U, Laryngitis or whatever his name is.

One of those 34 guys must be among the best 5 football players in America, right? I'm guessing the NFL draft validates me on that.

Whether it is fair or not, the QB from the #1 team in the country almost always gets Heisman attention. Remember when Gino Toretta won it in 1992. There were far better players that deserved it more than he did. But he was the QB from the #1 team in the nation.

Also, stats can be misleading. BQ's high completion percentage is from throwing a lot of dinks and dunks. He didn't suddenly become this accurate passer when Weis came to town. Weis simply has him throwing more high percentage passes. So you can't just look at the stats and say that BQ should be in the lead.

What I feel needs to be done is to look at how each player is playing in each game. BQ has looked like a deer in the headlights for the 1st quarter of each game. I can't say that I have seen Smith look like that one time this year. Can you really say that BQ is playing like the MVP week in and week out? His stats look good, but ont he field, he really hasn't. He's been throwing into coverage, missing wide open receivers donwfield and even out of the backfield, throwing the ball up fro grabs, throwing high, throwing behind his receivers. In each of the last 2 games he threw a TD pass to the wrong team (though one of them clearly wasn't his fault). And he really hasn't ever carried this team on his shoulders. Can you point to a season defining game where he clearly won it for us, where he carried the team? He isn't leading the heisman race right now, nor does he deserve to.

That doesn't mean that he isn't a good QB and that doesn't mean that we can't have a great season. It simply means that in my opinion, BQ is not living up to the Heisman hype.

Imo, if Brady isn't the best heisman candidate, then he should at least be in a better position than Troy Smith.

Why? Because comebacks matter and he led TWO of them, in hostile environments...one of which was played during a monsoon.

That isn't to say he hasn't made mistakes, but he has definitely made up for them.

Brady's problem, like you mentioned, is the UM game. But hopefully that game will leave everyone's minds with a few weeks.

The OSU-PSU game was played in Columbus and the result was never really in question. Even when PSU went up 6-0, everyone knew OSU would come back. Their backs weren't up against the wall. Troy didn't need to step up----someone else, on PSU's defense needed to screw up.

Part -n- parcel with the rest of the schedule- Brady will have to "hang" gargantuan numbers against some really crummy foes...If he doesn't "forgetaboutit"....Smith will be able to get by w/o outdueling Brady on a personal stat-by-stat comparison, due to the strength of his remaining schedule.

Its hard to believe that Brady has basically the same stats as Troy Smith just because of the Michigan which is bringing him down. The Heismen ceremony is a looong was off and he has plenty of time to improve, it doesn't matter if he wins heismen or not, everyone is going to want Quinn over Smith at the draft!

Stealingshrimp why are you sighing? Brady quinn has put up huge numbers except against that one team with a good defense, sort of like last year. His numbers are out of this world. Just look at the MSU game, 5 td's and only 1 interception in HORRIBLE rain conditions. Forget that he threw the ball up for grabs twice, GREAT QB's know when they can do that. Also they have great awareness for their receivers after the catch, I mean do you think it is a mistake there were over 150 YAC, I don't. Anyone could have made that horrible pass to walker when he wasn't looking, like troy smith and stanton. I mean jesus, did you see the final interception, notre dame's defense planned that pinball body interception. Honestly, that pass was just as bad as brady's INT. Seriously, stop sighing, it's frustrating, are you really a fan? Brady doesn't have any time to throw anyway, blame the OL - I know last year we said Brady was amazing under pressure - and he still is - he's just gotten unlucky. Watch for him to break out against the stellar defenses of purdue army and navy - and you'll see the heisman trophy shine in his eyes. Leave the board and quit your dissent you michigan fan.

Going into the 4th quarter, I counted Brady hitting the ground 21 times, Queens. Brady's performance? Hardly......

I don't care what anybody says. The greatest QB of all time is NOT going to have good day when they hit the ground 21 times going into the 4th quarter....NOBODY. I just thank God that he lived through it without being injured.....:meditate:

I think he meant that Brady Quinn hit the ground 21 times, not his passes....meaning that he was knocked down by a defender on that many plays. I certainly don't think he meant that Brady had 21 passes hit the ground.

Mea whah? I'm assuming that's "my mistake" in another language, but it's all good...haha. Bring on the Boilermakers!!

Former altar boy and two years of required Latin in high school, Irish Christian Brothers.

Pre Vatican II most Catholics knew mea culpa to mean "through my fault".

It's from the Confiteor. "... mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa ..."

... Through my fault, through my fault, through my most grevious fault ...

It's an acknowledgement of a flawed nature and a willingness to make amends.

So yeah, "my mistake" in another language.

Very interesting...thx. I've always wanted to study Latin, Greek, or Italian. I think words in those languages are wonderfully unique.

The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced its Division 1-A National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games ending September 23.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brady Quinn, NOTRE DAME
Senior, Quarterback, Dublin, OH/Coffman HS
Senior quarterback Brady Quinn completed 20-of-36 passes for 319 yards and five touchdowns to lead 12th-ranked Notre Dame to a come-from-behind 40-37 win at Michigan State. With the Fighting Irish (3-1) trailing 31-14 at halftime, Quinn threw for three second-half touchdowns - 62, 43 and 14 yards - to lead the comeback. It was Quinn's eight career 300-yard passing effort.

Walter Camp, "The Father of American football," first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp - a former Yale University athlete and football coach - is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation - a New Haven-based all-volunteer group - was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.

Heisman Contender of the Week
5. QB Brady Quinn, Notre Dame

In one frenetic fourth quarter in East Lansing, Quinn went from persona non grata to the Heisman Contender of the Week. Five touchdown passes and a nationally televised comeback for the ages have a way of breathing life back into a lifeless candidacy. Quinn still needs help, but with seven straight games against below average defenses, he's got no excuses for not being in the hunt when the Irish arrive at the Coliseum on Nov. 25.
Last Week: 20-of-36 for 319 yards, 5 TDs and 1 INT (Michigan State)
This Week: vs. Purdue
2006 Season: 92-of-158 for 1,086 yards, 11 TDs and 4 INTs – 1 rushing TD

CBS Offers Irish QB Prime Time Slot

New York (AP) -- Programming executives at CBS have reportedly offered Notre Dame quarterback and Heisman hopeful Brady Quinn a starring role in his own prime time drama series.

Quinn has reportedly been offered over $500,000 per episode to portray a healer who lives in the post-Civil War frontier town of Colorado Springs.

The series will be entitled "Brady Quinn, Medicine Woman."

Sorry, Maison, you're WAY late with that one.

C'mon, man, you're normally WAY sharper than that. We need you at the top of your game, man! SOMEBODY has to be the token Michigan fan around here!

Having watched that game on ESPN Classic last night, it amazes me how he looked like total ass at times (esp. the first quarter) but would then look absolutely brilliant.

YAC stats on the two Samardzija and the one Carlson TDs pretty much made the day.

That first quarter was abysmal. Weis looked like he literally wanted to strangle Quinn. And after the pick for the TD, I actually thought me might do it.

Too bad he wasn't even the most overrated QB on the field that night. Drew Stanton?

MEH.

In a related story, Quinn's sister Laura--and her fledgling acting career--got a big boost yesterday when she was signed to star in a remake of the 1991 thriller "Sleeping with the Enemy."

 I actually thought that one was pretty good. The first one, not so much.
