Here is the way I see it:
If we beat Marquette, we are about 99% in and would earn the 7 seed in the Big East Tournament. At that point our first game would probably just be the difference between earning a 9-10 seed for the NCAAs or an 11-12 one.
If we lose to Marquette, we could fall anywhere between the 7 and the 10 seed in the Big East Tournament. If we earn the 7 or 8 seed, we would still get the bye but would probably have to win to make sure we would get in. If we earn the 9 or 10 seed, we would play either Depaul or Rutgers in the first round which would do little for us before playing either the 7 or 8 seed in the 2nd round. There really is no difference between the 7 through 10 seeds, just that the 9 and 10 can only tire themselves out by having to play in the 1st round against the 15 and 16 seeds.
Pretty much, beat Marquette and we are in barring a 30 point loss in the Big East Tournament. If we lose, we would have to win our game in either the 7 v. 10 or 8 v. 9 Big East Tournament to get in. If we lose to Marquette then lose in one of those games, we probably would only have about a 25% chance of making the tourney.
